    Always lovely to watch you get your hands on a leaky box,

    63 looks great!! If it was me, I'll keep the bumpers and I would buff the car. Keep up the good work!!!

    Nice car man.
    Repack the box with grease, not oil.
    Asjust the screw just until it snugs then lock it down.

    I had a 66' with a bad steering box, worn and leaking. I put lithium grease in place of the oil. It was better for a while before I put a new one in. Are you sure it is 64'? The side molding is from 67' and later. 64' had the fatter side molding.

      Thanks for your comment. I will have to do a complete steering box rebuild video I think one day as never done it.
      Yes its definitely a 64, if you look one one of my last videos I feature my 65 and you can see how much bigger the front and rear screens look

    What lubricant did you use to fill into the steering box?

    • @jamiedowson6482
      @jamiedowson6482  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used Penrite steering box lube. There are also other brands that do the trick. Hope this helps. Jamie

      As far as I know the VW Manual recommends EP 90 transmission fluid to go into the steering box.

      Ah ok. I also used EP90 for my Land Rover transfer case and diffs
