    Sometimes remove the spark plug {check for spark } The if it has spark, A little gas down the spark plug hole will allow The engine to fire up for a couple of seconds. If it does , fuel system { pump /carb . } are next to check....... Good Luck , keep us apprised, Very Interesting !

    I wish I had tried this to my factory box first. I disassembled my old box and cleaned it and regreased everything and it works better than the new TRW box I just bought. I think it's best to take it completely apart. My box had clumps of hardened grease in it. I thought the bearings were bad because it had this weird feel to it when I turned the shafts but it turned out just being those hard chunks of grease. Now it turns really smooth.

    Great video, I have been watching your stuff for a while now and have learned a bunch of useful info. This video sent me on a mission of the perfect gear box lube nothing at all wrong with 00 and most of my research pointed to using CV grease which is some very slick stuff but in my search I stumbled across a grease from John Deere of all places it's called Corn head grease. Check it out, I think I'm going to be adding it as my go too steering grease. In years past I used Mystic JT6 mixed with Lucas for various gear boxes and such.

    I guess on car adjustment is ok but you can get it perfect off the car. The risk on the car is a slightly too tight center adjustment and binding and more wear.

    • @SladesVWBeetle
      @SladesVWBeetle  ปีที่แล้ว

      After it is placed on the car, then you always want to do a final adjustment. I wasn’t able to do that until it was together.

    Very informative video, nice job. Slade, I have a 73 Super Beetle and the steering box is stuck turned all the way to the right. It appears to be a recent rebuilt box, so I want to see if I can correct this problem. It is a bit different design than the TRW you demonstrated in your video but it is a VW casting 113 415 111A. Is the procedure basically the same to do a maintenance, and where could I find the gaskets for this?....Also, is there a procedure to center the steering arm that is bolted to the box shaft....any suggestions would help....cheers.

    A long time ago when I was younger I had a 1971 Beetle, 4 speed (not a super beetle). When I would brake and go into a turn I would get the death wobble from the front steering/suspension. So what caused that to happen? Also my Beetle after I had the engine overhauled would overheat and lock up. That's what turned me away from the VW Beetle hobby. Any help with explaining these two issues would be greatly appreciated. You have a great YT channel, very informative and entertaining!

    • @SladesVWBeetle

      That’s wobble can honestly come from many things. The only way to solve that problem, would have been to jack it up and check all of the front end parts and bushings.
      It almost sounds like the flaps and the fan shroud we’re not opened up. Maybe they forgot to put the spring on.
