    I think the lack of a clear meta and use of the squid roles is because people are still figuring out the game, it can take months for a clear cut meta to form.

      Yeah but man I abused the heck of squid roll and even discovered some neat tech where you can do a certain motion to do squid roll directly forward it’s complex but fun and you can cancel it into subs and specials and retain armor which is really neat. Same but that's probably cuz the most I played was the Splatoon 2 demo which is barely 1min so this is truly my first real experience. One of my favorite aspects of Splatoon 3 is that it seems to be taking the Smash Ultimate approach to speed and loading screens. The devs juiced the game engine to make screens go faster and got rid of the need for pointlessly waiting in a menu for the next match to start. I missed the days in which I could play squid jump on the wiiu gamepad so now having the ability to walk around instead of sitting there after every match is really appreciated.

    The hub being bigger is... An understatement. At a guesstimate I'd say it's around 4x the size of 2's - A block with the loop of four streets and all the back alleys that implies compared to Splatoon 2's street. Splatoon 2's hub was smaller than Splatoon 1's but Splatoon 1's was an intersection rather than meaningfully bigger than 2's imo. Really helps give a lived in feel. Particularly the random ramp that leads to a vending machine and a bench about 2-3 stories above street level. Also love the fact the lobby has a second floor cafe and arcade which seemingly doesn't do anything (the food stand is on the same level as the training area) - Apparently I just like pointless areas in lobbies and hub worlds that don't really do anything except add flavour to the world.

    • @Cream147player
      @Cream147player ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Stephen-Fox With regards to tableturf not being online on day 1, there is at least one justification for it. It gives people time to build a deck - you don't have to rush build one to participate in online play, instead we should have a deck ready by the time it does go online.

    • @Stephen-Fox

      @@Cream147player Hence my 'meh' response to it - I feel very similarly to hearing that as I do about the original Splatoon waiting until a certain amount of people globally had reached level 10 before unlocking ranked - It's a weirdly Nintendo choice, and not one I'm particularly fond of, but it's one that makes sense to me so I'm just kind of shrugging it off.
      (Granted that depends on exactly how long it takes for Nintendo to unlock it. After 50k people have met the unlock conditions for online tableturf vs a week vs a month vs after three months will give me very different feelings about it in practice)

Did they buff it?" Nope. I just slept on it in 2 because none of the kits appealed to me. I don't like tenta missle, bomb rush has always been tricky for me, and Baller is okay but not exciting. Where as the ink strikes were easy to use, really snappy, and even won me a game by throwing a couple right at the end and getting us a .2% advantage. From there you just have to do your best to pin them and keep repainting their turf.

And I must say, its very stressful and the fact that we had the Tri-Colour battle like almost 10 times in a row while having to play it on the same map (which btw looks like they basically copy pasted it from Splatoon 2 into Splatoon 3) it got kind of frustrating.

    i know arlo's prob not gonna read this but as a casual whose dabbled in compev and has better knowledge abt the movement and weapons i have a lot of stuff to comment on. Personally i never used to the squid surge but most of the maps in the premiere didnt rly have good places to use them. THE SQUID ROLL ON THE OTHER HAND OOOOOOOOH MY GOD, its such a good movement option also its not just reversing direction you can also squid roll sideways. Also when your in the squid roll animation you can control which direction you go and if your fast enough you can kinda roll forward. combining this sub straffing allows you to move insanely fast. Tricolor is kinda bad though i admit the balance is rly wonky, its almost impossible for the mid team to win unless you have a heavy support comp, also pure support stuff like tacticooler and big bubbler nothing like killer wail 5.1 or reef slider or else you almost instantly loose. That and you need heavy ink coverage weapons. For the 2 player teams its realy easy for them to win if they 1 player plays a super agro weapon like brush while if the other player plays a backliner with good AOE.
    Uhhh thats all i rly had to say bai bai

      But most of us didn't figure that out until near the end of fest and a team sort of needs to coordinate to keep both teams pinned in place.

      @@rivetsquid8887 which is exactly why it's unbalanced. Not only are the tri stages the exact same as the default stages, being too small and making it way too easy for the enemy to spawncamp the defending team, who gets the smallest piece of the stage, but with just this way and booyah there is little to no method of being coordinated at all.
      Not only that but if one team gets the ultra signal you're already practically doomed for the rest of the match. If the losing team wins this (practically handed to them on a silver platter) they automatically get twice the amount of points that the defending team would have won hadn't they lost the tri battle.. The comeback mechanic is broken as heck.

    • @rivetsquid8887
      @rivetsquid8887 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@razzledazzledorito6552 not really, you can chose anywhere in the spawn area to drop, all it takes is shooting one of the opponent's or rushing through with one of the new dodges for s. From there you could drop a beacon, grab the signal, or even free the other team and team up.
      I still lost rounds after we figured it all out so it's absolutely doable. Even in rounds where you do get pinned, if you push hard enough and lay ink well, its pretty easy between two teams to outpaint from where they're stuck.
      Plus it's way faster to reach mid than paint the pillar and climb up from defending start, so if you win the initial clash, you can hold your zone from the tower while still racking up a ton of percentage.
      It's an exceedingly fair mode, but it requires skill, defending or challenging.

    I agree with the sentiment that you should pick a splatfest team based on the actual category, not on which character is representing it. I picked team scissors, but only because that was genuinely the option I preferred. The fact that Big Man was representing it was more so a bonus.

  • @dockingwater1713

    As someone who loves Splatoon 2, this was a really fun experience. While I was always hyped for this game, playing in the Splatfest just made it even more obvious that I’ll love this game. I loved the small additions, the new movement options are really fun, I love the new weapons and subs even if I didn’t mess around too much, mainly sticking with the same 2 or 3 weapons for actual matches, etc. However, the Splatfest structure leaves some to be desired, specifically with the Tri Color Turf War. Let’s start with the good stuff, being the first half. This first half plays exactly like Splatfest’s after the overhaul they received during Splatoon 2 with some minor tweaks. It was great there and it’s great now, especially with the addition of Festival Clams, which you gain from winning 10x Battles and each one increases the chance of a 100x or 333x Battle. This addition makes 10x Battles even more important and add a more skill aspect to being able to participate in 100x and 333x Battles. As for the second half, that’s when the Tricolor Turf Wars are introduced and, like with a lot of other people, I’m not the biggest fan of these. On paper, this is a cool idea and I like that they’re basically a comeback mechanic. Unfortunately, it’s far too heavily in favor of the losing teams mainly thanks to the stage, Sturgeon Shipyard, not being built for this mode and how utterly busted those Ultra Signals and Sprinklers of Doom are. The Ultra Signals aren’t too hard to get to and there’s no cooldown after someone is killed trying to use one and the Sprinklers of Doom are even worse. Since they last for the rest of the match and they control so much turf, it’s near impossible for the middle team to win if one is activated. These things need to be nerfed, which there’s actually a number of ways to do that, from making them disappear after 15-30 seconds to putting a 10 second respawn timer on it if someone is killed trying to use it. However, this isn’t the only issue. From what I understand, you cannot get 10x, 100x, or 333x Battles during the second half removing the other change from the equation. Plus, there’s a nonzero chance this new gimmick replaces Splatoon 2’s Splatfest gimmick, the Shifty Stations, which were one of my favorite parts of Splatfests. All that being said, while I hope they improve the Splatfests, I’m still SUPER hyped for Splatoon 3’s Multiplayer and Singleplayer and to see how the meta grows and changes

      Yeah, no more Shifty Stations is a huge bummer honestly, it was so cool having a unique map, often having unique mechanics (like areas getting closed off), that was only around for one Splatfest, really made it worth found out of your way to participate in the 'fest.

    Personally i thought the Splatana was to weak off a weapon at close range, the Stinger was great but it would be better if the fully charged shot did a bit more dmg or if they allow the mines it makes when charged stick to players as that is part off the dmg, those mines banish if a player is hit decreasing how much you do and it is not like the mines deal much anyways. They definitely need to make that Squid Roll unique to a button to use at any moment, maybe make it have a stamina bar off sorts so players don't abuse it and though the Squid Surge seems useless to climbing walls, it is good for surprising an enemy above a wall as you do get some air compared to climbing the wall normally, plus it is done in an instance always giving you the upper hand to catch the enemy by surprise. Maybe they can make the charge a bit shorter if even by 1 second (it doesn't really take that long to charge anyways but it is longer than just normally smashing B to climb faster)

    Something of note about the Squid Surge: if you only have a wall partially inked, you can still squid surge and reach the top! This is particularly good for me and my fellow Inkbrush players, who would previously have to brute force our way up large walls by swimming and inking a bit, swimming and inking a bit.. til we finally reached the top.
    It was mostly an issue in Blackbelly Skatepark, which is gone, but in its place of having a Big Wall is Scorch Gorge, so I'M happy

    So generally I've heard the bow is undertuned and a lil weak. And from my experience it was. Like it could be fun to use and can do stuff but it felt weaker overall. And all it's special features like the jump shot and charge shot leaving explosives felt really unintuitive and like stuff that just happens when you use the weapon.
    But the Splatana is a really solid weapon that just takes some practice and getting used to. It's precise and though it's like a melee weapon it has a good bit of range, so you have to get used to not getting in too close unless you can get all the way in and smack them with that instakill. Otherwise it has similar power to the inkbrush, 4 hits to kill, but you can improve you damage output a lot by being precise and using it's more advanced features. Definitely a weapon I really really liked.
    The tricolor turfwars are definitely fun but it is kinda by design stacked against the team in the lead. Like even if you come third as a duo team, so long as the leading team did not come first, you win. And then you have to defend an objective which can really help the smaller teams win if they manage to grab one. I dunno, Like I think these tricolor turfwars should give point separate from the Turf Wars(Open) mode, so like either the leading team or the two behind teams get the points. Otherwise being in the lead at the end of day one will always be a pretty huge disadvantage.
    And finally, the best thing to do in the lobby is assault the elevator with the Ultra stamp. It's the funniest thing to me. But I would like a little minigame to play like Squid Jump from Splatoon 1.

    loved the demo, but i was also bummed about the squid surge and roll. im just frustrated that the game doesnt explain it better, ive seen people use them so well but for me it was super hard. as a 2 player, it’s just not my instinct to make such a strange input while playing. it’s not intuitive like the dodge roll. the surge only seems useful for getting a surprise on an enemy at the top

    • @nofilterneito

      Squid Roll is nuts for slower weapons by giving them added mobility. Imagine Dynamo Rollers but they can dodge backwards to give themselves more space.
