Sonic the Hedgehog was literally made for 60fps. They would have done it years ago if the hardware allowed it. If anything, they should have done a high framerate mode at 120fps.
well it's not like current hardware isn't allowing that to happen already it's just console hardware doesn't allow that for now. From what i hear the game can run above 60 fps so i'm sure people are already playing this game at 120fps and probably above if it's not capped here. I'm sure the PS5 Pro might get there but unfortunately i doubt that as well since such high framerates often need a good cpu as well and the PS5 Pro does not receive an upgrade in that department other than a slight overclock and upscaling can for the most part only help GPU limitations.. Hope i'm wrong and we do see a 120fps mode on consoles but it's unlikely.
@@Zy.Blurish it's to do with memory as well, that's why most games have a higher frame rate on Series X than the Series S, even though the Series S has the exact same CPU. If this game is locked at 60fps, which it appears to be except for a few dips here and there, then that means there's enough headroom to uncap to 120fps. The issue then is whether it will be able to achieve a smooth 120fps, or will it bounce up and down which is probably why they capped it at 60fps because that will be a lot smoother. However, there are other options such as lowering the resolution down to 1080p or so, or allowing 120Hz displays with VRR to increase the frame rate. That's what Sony does with most of their new games and it works well. I don't know why more developers don't use this feature.
@@cun7us It would certainly be great to see more games having that feature. I'm sure some games would benefit greatly from it inlcluding Sonic X Shadow Generation i would imagine
Brother, there are more 60FPS Sonic games than there are 30FPS ones. Unleashed, Generations, Secret Rings, Black Knight, and Adventure 1's original DC release (and even then, prerelease footage shows they initially aimed for 60) are the only 30FPS Sonic games.
Shadow Generations is basically just 1 world from Frontiers but with Shadow as the star, and man it works well, it’s less focused on speed and much more focused on exploration and replay ability with manyyy different paths per level. They really did a good job to get out of the usual Sonic comfort zone, and give us something that feels unique and modern
I heard from someone on the show floor that Performance is the best experience because it's SO much smoother and the quality isn't even noticable. Probably should have set that as the default.
@@whispersmusic6173 they will not. Because it's the switch that's holding them back from achieving a true 8th gen sonic game. And the next switch (rumored to be called the switch bitch) will have more or less the same power as an xbox series s.
Ok, so in quality mode Sonic Generations runs at 4k 60fps and Shadow Generatiins in 4k 30fps... Yeah so basically play the sonic part in quality and the shadow part in performance.
I played the Switch version of the game, but, from my perspective, it's just great to play the game even with the 30FPS, I personally don't care that much to 60FPS, so, from my perspective, it's a pretty good version to pick
There is frame drops on the PS5. It’s rare but it happens whenever an alpha effect fills the screen. You can notice it in green hills right after the giant fish
Quality mode is shit on every game, I don’t understand the why it’s even there, to change what? If developers really wanted to this “quality mode” could run it at 60, literally every game do that, 30 for quality 60 for performance
If I could figure out how to turn the 60fps on my Series X… don’t tell me 60 is PS5 and PC only? I’m not a frame rate whore, but that’s disappointing if Series X was left to eat the dust.

On the PC you can run Shadow Generations at 120fps, the Sonic Generations for some reason is locked at 60fps.

tbf, sonic generations has a lot of different paths too. shadow generations is definitely less speed focused though

It might depend on what your console default is set to. I have my ps5 set to prefer performance and the game was set to performance by default
Did bro just say sonic times shadow generations
Aint no way
first 3 seconds of the video and I was already dying lol
Once again, I prefer performance over graphics quality
These type of in depth technical reviews are exactly what I needed, great video
If possible make a video about the differences between PS4 , PS5 and Switch
That's insane that ps5 can't run this game at 4k60.
tbh, generations should ve ran at 4k 120fps, and shadow should run at 1440p 120fps
Indeed it's ridicolous that i get framedrops in a game that's remasterd from over 10 years ago
They've upgraded effects and textures to 4k as well it's not just a resolution bump...
as usual the last gen ports are holding it back.
When will devs stop supporting these outdated ass consoles and move on? Catering to poor ppl 😶🌫️

Considering the amount of new physics glitched on the new remaster it’s probably a good thing they didn’t
If possible please do the new game vs the OG running on XSX cause it has FPSBoost and AutoHDR on it to see how it fares, thanks 🙏🏽
Good point. I'd be interested to see how the fps boosted original fares with this remake.
"Sonic Times Shadow"
Is this guy?

The color space you’re recording in is incorrect.
I beat the entire game before I realized you could switch it to performance mode.....
Same here-
And it’s genuinely better. Had a better time playing the game either than image quality-
Can you do the Xbox One and PS4 version too ?
Quality mode is still a mystery to me like why would you cut the framerate for a slightly better looking experience 😂
Sonic Times Shadow.

30fps on the Switch is not suprising
It is actually a very smooth 30fps though. It runs decent without lags on my Samsung 4ktv.
@@misterlexx2721 Smooth 30fps? You probably mean stable, 30 fps is 30 fps. Also the tv doesn't matter, it will render at 1080p or 720p no matter what
Sonic times shadow?
Cross or X Shadow, whatever floats your boat.
Can u try it on PS4,Xbox one and Nintendo switch to see if they are playable

Sonic times shadow generations? what
I want to buy a ps5 but my 1440p monitor dont support vrr.
Does the ps5 works well with no vrr?
The game does not support vrr on ps5. I have tried it.
No ps5 barely supports it
A ps5 that run Sonic on Quality Mode only 30 fps…..
wasnt only on 360 it was also on ps3
shouldn't had been ps3 just to make more sense
Runs better on series x
how is this a "review"?
The PS5 is good with the graphics
Modern game devs are atrocious!! Shadow Generations looks like a ps3/360 generation game just higher resolution yet only 1440p 60fps??? Disgusting
Shadow generations looks really good
Go get a life you grown up 8 year old.
sure bud, it looks amazing coming from a pc player
