"Advanced slip knot"...truly a light-bulb moment. Hands down the simplest and best explanation for the magic circle/ring that I've seen thus far, thanks so much for this enlightening vid!
@@FalseBubblesis there any way you can do same video but with it zoomed in the wile time to your hands. You’re a good teacher so I’d like to know if that’s possible. Thank you for all your tutorials.
I'm so glad I finally seen another person holding the yarn that way. I thought I was the only one. Marking the last stitch makes sense too. Will have to try that. Thank you for a great video!
Some friendly advice: your entry level is all over the place. You specify (rightly) that a marker can go on the first or the last stitch of a round. I have never done ANY sort of crochet or knitting and i understood that. BUT, things that i didnt undertand: What is a slip knot ? What is a chain? What counts as a stitch? What do you mean by over the hook? (PLEASE SLOW DOWN YOUR HANDS) when doing your first real stitch, where you you push the hook in? How do you stop the yarn sliding off the hook (i.e. hook direction Its like, the first knot loop thing you do is the perfect speed, everything else feels like it goes at lightning speed with no break in between . Like those drawings that are like 1. Draw a circle, 2. Draw another circle, 3. Add detail, congrats youve drawn a horse. Im really grateful you put the time into making this, but it very much feels like youre trying to teach people that have zero knowledge, but posess the eyes of a crocheter. To those of us watching this video, this is a pile of spaghetti. You need to slow down and teach us the anatomy and terminology of the stitch
exactly and it doesnt help a beginner when they look in the chat and evryone gets it (beginner or not) this was quite frustrating for me and i feel like she’s trying to teach beginers but it feel targeted towards people who know how to make a magic circle and i trying to improve them not learn from scratch also for you i suggest learning chains and single crochets before magic rings because that’s what i did and this is still very confusing
But if you don't know what a slip knot, single crochet or any other basic stitch is then you need to start with learning those before moving on to something that is more than basic. Need to learn how to do the chain before doing anything else. This video isn't meant to teach how to do the most basic stitch. There are many, many tutorials to learn to crochet.
@@julieharris146 it's part of starting the magic circle. Starting a magic circle can be explained in a single sentence without video if you already know everything else. But they made a video to make it accessible to beginners. In addition, how am I supposed to learn those things if I haven't gotten the information on how to START a piece??? Crochet is not something you can start at step 5 and then learn step 1 afterwards The videos by the Woobles are VERY clear in their video in this topic, both with their terminology and their actions in the video. I recommend to the creator to check out some of those videos to see how they can make their tutorial more beginner friendly
After watching multiple videos of people doing the MC, this one was by far the easiest. I guess it depends on how your brain is wired as to what's easiest and what's not. You keep going girl!❤
Honestly.... for those who struggle like me.... I find the "magic ring" to be pointless. I just chain 4 or 5, then slip stitch into the first chain. There.... you've got a circle. Easiest ever!!!
@@FalseBubbles I wish I could post a pic in here but look up the closed granny square and that's how my centers look. I don't actually mind the little hole, I think it looks great.
@@jibbityjibbs7466 I think the closed granny square hole looks fine on some projects, but it doesn’t look that great for things like plushies. The magic ring makes them look more seamless
Omg, thank you so much for this video!!!! I have been trying to make this concept work for 2 days and was getting down on myself, but you saved the day. Now I can start making things for my boys.
OMG is right! I have struggled to REMEMBER how to do the magic circle and you made it so simple for me to get. I do my slip knots the same way so it was JUST SO SIMPLE! THANK YOU!!!!!!!
omg. This was illuminating. I don't know why I struggle so much with Magic Circles. This really helps me. Thank You! And, king the last stitch in the round such a great idea. I like that so much better than marking the first.
If only I knew sooner that it is just practically a slipknot and not the complicated advanced thing I always thought it was! I messed up so many magic circles because I was struggling with crossing the yarn over my hand and what not xD Thanks a lot!
So basically this method makes it easier to see the first sc stitch in the circle instead of having it mushed together with the slip knot if we did it that way if I’m understanding? Great video as always Megan!
Hey Melissa!!!! The Slip knot method is a bit different and there is a time and place for the slip knot (or I like to call it the "Ch 2 and Single crochet in 2nd Ch from hook" method! LOL. I am a magic circle kinda gal but sometimes the slip knot is a little better for chunky yarn so you don't break the yarn by tugging and it tends to lay flatter!
Thank you!!! Nobody else talked about the anchoring chain and it was really confusing to me, since my pattern obviously just says to SC in MR, nothing about chaining.
Wow! Best magic circle tutorial ever! I have been doing the magic circle for so long another way and hated doing them! This changes everything for me. The whole process finally makes sense! 😁 Thank you SO much!!
Thank you so much i just learned it tonight and I've been trying for months i love this style thank you so so so so so so so so sooooooooo much it is so helpful
Thank you so much! You explained it so clearly, including the bits that other videos brushed over. This answered all my questions and helped me understand the structure rather than just being a set of steps. And using the stitch marker right at the very start is genius, I wish I had thought of that.
THANK YOU!!!!! This is the best set of instructions I have found on the magic circle. I always used the slip knot method and every time I tried to make a magic circle, it just didn't flow. You broke this down and made it very easy. You are a very good instructor.
I make a lot of hats a pond I love yr magic circle. The hole at the top can be pulled really tight and you can’t see it especially if I don’t use a pompom . Always use magic circle. I have never had a problem with it.
I sort of get the braiding part but its the holding of the yarn that I keep getting confused with. Either its too tight, or im holding it it in two places or its twisting around while I'm trying to grab it or I can't get the new strand through the ring around the stick. grrr
I love how some people understand this and some people don't then I'm just going through the commons to see what people have been through from watching this video so I don't waste my time watching this video and not watching better tutorials😂
Try putting the slip knot onto table, tape the e nd of yarn to the table, then make a chain st,with the ball end of wool, then unstick it from table, and carry on double crocheting into magic loop until you have desired number of stitches
Im on the hunt for the best technique for a magic circle. I love making plushies so i make them all the time but the way i do it is so awkward for me and takes me so long. Like 2 minutes usually. Fairly, half the time my yarn doesnt want to pull closed (chenille lol) but still! Thats way too much time to start a plush! Thank you
