It's not that the japanese community are treated just like the other brazilian people, they ARE brazilian. There's no distinction between the japanese people born in Brazil and any other immigrant communities we have in Brazil. The italian, lebanese, chinese, german, spanish, portuguese, the ones that came from everywhere around Africa, and any other community that made Brazil their homes in the last centuries are now part of our country and culture. Just to clarify your inquiry at the beginning of the video. :D
Yes. All my japanese friends are actually brazilians. They don't even speak japanese and never been to Japan because today they are in tge 2nd maybe 3rd generation around
The complexity of the case of descendants of africans in Brasil is that most of them were not immigrants, they were bring as slaves. They are Brazilian, they are not indigenous people but they are not immigrants, call them immigrants is a little bit problematic since It kind of erasure this historical problem.
@@MacondoEraEntaoUmaCidade We receive African people as immigrants as well, not only the ones that were brought enslaved. But anyways, everyone who were not originally in the territory of Brazil when the colonization started (that is, everyone but the indigenous people) is a kind of immigrant. Unfortunately, some were forced to come, but now there's not such a distinction anymore. At least, there shouldn't be, some people insist in being racist and deny a part of the society their rights, but I believe this is changing little by little, in the next few decades these prejudiced generations will be renewed or be arrested.
São Paulo's arguably best ramen restaurant was just a block away from where you were. And it's crazy cheap, it's run by a couple of elder japanese-brazilians, they have their own recipe, glorious stuff. Charming traditional looking place as well. Aska is the name.
Fui no Aska e no Kazu.
You probably can’t film at Aska, though. If you ‘take up their time’ by asking a simple question instead of entering the restaurant already knowing exactly what you’ll eat and do so in less than 20 minutes, they look like they want to strangle you, and try to rush you in every way they can. I kid you not, my first visit there, the food took a while to come but once it was there, it was as if they were timing me to bring me the check and clean the table. I felt so uncomfortable, 25 minutes into my meal and I felt like they were making me a favour by not kicking me out. I felt like I was at a Call Center again, on my 20 minute food break. I decided to try again another time, and it was the same experience. I dared to ask the waiter a question, and he answered me as if I should have done a whole ass research before coming so i wouldn’t waste his time. I prefer Kazu all the way, didn’t notice a difference between either food but the service is astronomically better, and you absolutely can take 10 more minutes to eat in peace instead of having to forgo chewing so you won’t be kicked out.
The samon in Brasil is imported from salmon farms in Chile. The temaki in good restaurants is made at the moment you ask for, so the nori seaweed is always crunchy. There's a very good cake and salgados rodízio at Sodiê (they have cake shops in several states). In São Paulo we have pasta rodízios too.
You guys are so nice people. It’s easy to see you’re well educated. I love the way you show the local cuisine and the places around. Keep up with the quality content! Welcome back to my city!!! 🇧🇷🙏🏽❤
"Brazilians invented interminent fasting" That made me laugh, because not eating before going to a rodizio (and then eating enough for a whole day) is a fairly common habit here. We might have been indeed doing it for a long time without realizing it. It's always worth the wait though, and it's more food for every penny spent that way, so why wouldn't we? 😄 If by chance it makes us healthier, that's a happy side effect.
You guys know it better now that we don’t have any specific physical trait or a “face” to say what a Brazilian looks like. Anyone can be Brazilian, we are and been very inclusive for the longest time, so it is easy for people from all over to assimilate to the many cultures we have mixed to create ours. We like to adopt gringos and “abrasileirar = brazilianize” them, it is specially easier when they already resonate with us like you guys having this jolly nature, passion for food and feet that can’t stop when there’s music playing. Restaurante cheio significa sempre comida boa e farta, e muito provavelmente barata. Aproveitem Sampa. Adoro visitar São Paulo pra fazer compras.
The diversity you saw in this restaurant is tipicaly brazilian and it is one of the reasons why it is a country able to assimilate imigrants. The case of the Japanese is special because it is hard to think of two more diferent cultures. And in fact, there was a lot of dificulties for 1st generation japanese, but now they are not only completely assimilated, but part of their culture has been adapted and adopted by Brazillians of every colors. Japanese culture is deeply admired in Brazil and we are proud of our "japas".
You guys have enjoyed my country more than I did when I was there. I left Brazil when I was 27 and never could afford the good stuff. Today with 33 in Germany I think about visiting Brazil just because of the food like a tourist 😆
I love your videos, wven more now that you came back ... I think you already experienced our country, but I have to say: we are a blender. Put everything in the world in a blender and turn it on, this is Brazil. We call ourselves 'vira-lata caramelo', that can be translated as a yellow mutt, a reference to the culture blender that we are, the mix of the best things in every culture. Keep it going and always be welcome! (a tip: eat with your fingers wherever you are)
3:08 Note: I highly recommend this Kyoto Hotel to everyone!!! It's in front of the subway, the rooms are big and spacious and it's right in the center of Liberdade!!
Any person who is born here and speaks the language fluently will be considered as Brazilian as anybody else. No matter where the parents come from, skin colour or anything. It's the result of a society which has always been mixed. THAT BEING SAID, racial prejudice and things like that are unfortunately still very, very real; and a big part of the problem is the "racial democracy" myth which states that since our racial relations are different from those in the US (something like a church that is only attended by black people would be considered absolutely abnormal here), we are not a racist country. We were the last country to abolish slavery, with no compensations or anything for the freed slaves, and that has had a deep effect on the social picture. Polls have shown that while the majority of Brazilians say they are not racist, the same majority also say they know someone who is, which is very telling. Besides racial prejudice against black people, we also have a serious problem of ignorance towards everything related to our neighbor countries. Unfortunately latin american culture as a whole is usually ignored, a majority of people don't care about learning Spanish or anything like that, and people who can afford traveling around the world a lot of times just ignore the countries of their own continent. This has been changing, though, but it's a slow process - and the americanized entertainment industry certainly doesn't help.
The Brazilians try to improve the food changing the original recipe... Always and as a Brazilian I confess I prefer always the Brazilian way 😁since pizza, bbq, sushi, and etc
1:03 that's why the Brazilian passport is highly sought after for counterfeiting, because basically anyone can pass as a Brazilian, as long as the accent (or lack of) doesn't get you.
There is also a all you can eat buffet for Kid's party. If you ever have the chance of going to a kid's party, you would absorb this culture very easily haha

Since you are going to Minas Gerais and possibly Ouro Preto, I have two tips for places. In 2013 I was in Ouro Preto on a college field trip and one of the points was the visit to ''Mina da Passagem'', located 15 minutes from Ouro Preto. It is the largest open gold mine in the world. It is one of the mines that produced the most gold in Brazil. In addition to having an incredible underground lake with crystal clear waters. And the other place on this trip was the ''State Natural Monument Gruta Rei do Mato'', it's a little far from Ouro Preto, about 2 hours, but it's worth every minute of the trip there. Both places are quite structured for visitors. I'm enjoying and following your return to Brazil!
@@JetLagWarriors Guys did you go to "Ferma Dacilor" very famous restaurant in romania ?Mark Wiens went there too,can stay over night ! Is located in Tohani Judet Prahova !They have the best pork meat Mangalita ,no cholesterol! Love you guys !❤❤❤❤
@@JetLagWarriors I have had this in a number of places in São Paulo state, look for California rolls on the menu, some variations of these comes with nacho crumble. I think you can’t get it in a sushi chain called Mirai but many places have them
I like this kind of sushi rodizio style where you pick what you want (the usual is they bring a standard dish on the table) but the Tanka customer profile is more for non japanese customers taste, with more non typical japanese food to please these clients as the restaurant is front of the main square of the japanese district where the japanese fair on Sunday happens so usually is very crowded. Even sometimes I go to Tanka , IMHO my favourite (and a bit more expensive too) is the Sushi Isao, few blocks far from Tanka, where you can have a more traditional sushi on the same rodizio style of 'pick-what-you-want' with a higher quality than Tanka and if you like shrimps, a fabulous fried shrimp! About the temaki, usually you must ask to the waiter as it must have to be eat asap after made.
At 9:23 Ivana asked where does Brazil get their Salmon from. It's from Chile, and I dare to say all of South America get their Salmon from Chile. They have a huge Salmon industry in the south.
Temaki is what in Northern American countries is known as Hand Roll (the literal translation of Temaki, Te = Hand, Maki = Roll), in Brazil they are extremely popular because it's a quick healthy fast food, so you will find many places called TEMAKERIA that are fast food that does only sushi and sashimi and temaki of course. Because Brazil has the largest Japanese diaspora we have many words that are kept as original for example Hashi (Chopsticks), Shoyu (Soy Sauce), Temaki (Hand Roll), Gyoza (that some US states like California with large Brazilian communities say as Gyoza as opposed to Dumplings). Another curiosity, Brazil has many other largest diasporas like German (Second largest in the World), Portuguese (Largest community in the World, even more portuguese in Brazil than in Portugal), Largest Italian Diaspora, Lebanese, Spanish, etc, and we have many words that have reminiscence of the original words, for historical and cultural reasons, cultural for example the japanese words, but historical for example there are many words in Brazil that have arabic influence because of the crusades that influence went to Europe, in special Portugal and Spain, so you have in Portuguese many words with Al prefix, that means "the" in arabic and we them have words like Alface (that comes from Al Khas in Arabic, that translates as "The Lettuce") or Algodão (comes from Al Qatan, that translates as "The Cotton")
What can we say? We DO KNOW HOW TO EAT WELL hahahahah, Brazil is such a blessed place in this sense, we have so many cultures and a great land to grow all kinds of food, no restrictions, it's a shame that most of the good stuff does cost a lot for Brazillian standarts.
Rodizio is a system where a waiter bring to you. one especific per time. (in sushi rodizio, the waiter starts bringing seviches, sunomono and things more light. and come progressive to the things) no have limit of how much you can eat. and you can ask for anything that you liked more. Self Service is when you need to go to buffet and get the things that you liked, same way dont have limit of how much you can eat.
Actually we don't see japanese and other nationality descendants as "japanese brazilian" or "italian brazilian" or anything like that... They're just BRAZILIANS, because everybody in Brazil is "somewhere descendant". We just accept the fact that we are a mix of people from everywhere in the world. We just call "japanese" if the person is born in japan, but we really make no distinction in the way we treat people, because we know most of our elders are immigrants too.

Restaurante cheio significa sempre comida boa e farta, e muito provavelmente barata. Aproveitem Sampa. Adoro visitar São Paulo pra fazer compras.
I live in Toronto, It's 11:17 and I'm hungry now.
202k CONGRATS GUYS 🎉🎊🇧🇷💜💜
thanks, Douglas!
It was extremely awesome to watch your wife’s reaction to every good taste she had it! Amazing Chanel keep up the good content
Leave some food for us brazilians too, bro! Rumor has it São Paulo has been running out of salgados and cold beer since you guys landed there. 😘🤙
LOL! If I successfully drink all the cold beer, and they serve me a warm one, I will be so proud (although, also disappointed)
Nice premiere .
Loved the Strawberry 🍓 Sushi 🍣
Take care and stay safe
Thanks for coming and for all the support Santa
The diversity you saw in this restaurant is tipicaly brazilian and it is one of the reasons why it is a country able to assimilate imigrants. The case of the Japanese is special because it is hard to think of two more diferent cultures. And in fact, there was a lot of dificulties for 1st generation japanese, but now they are not only completely assimilated, but part of their culture has been adapted and adopted by Brazillians of every colors. Japanese culture is deeply admired in Brazil and we are proud of our "japas".
Sushi doesn't use Catupiry, it uses actual Cream Cheese (Philadelphia cream cheese).
Coxinha sounds like "coshinha", with the sh as in "shake". Cozinha is kitchen, as you've said in another video :D
Excelent choise. I know that restaurant and I Love It.
Liberdade is simply the best neighborhood. glad you guys are enjoying your stay!
I love your joy while eating some great food. I'm like you guys!
For me it's like, once you eat the hot roll you simply can not stop! It's so delicious!
You guys have enjoyed my country more than I did when I was there. I left Brazil when I was 27 and never could afford the good stuff. Today with 33 in Germany I think about visiting Brazil just because of the food like a tourist 😆
Já estou com água na boca 😀😀😀😀😀
I love your videos, wven more now that you came back ... I think you already experienced our country, but I have to say: we are a blender. Put everything in the world in a blender and turn it on, this is Brazil. We call ourselves 'vira-lata caramelo', that can be translated as a yellow mutt, a reference to the culture blender that we are, the mix of the best things in every culture. Keep it going and always be welcome! (a tip: eat with your fingers wherever you are)
Welcome to our dear Brazil. We love to receive good visits.
3:08 Note: I highly recommend this Kyoto Hotel to everyone!!! It's in front of the subway, the rooms are big and spacious and it's right in the center of Liberdade!!
salmon and other sushi fish are usually imported, in my state they come from Chilean farms.
If you already think the food in São Paulo is good, I can imagine when you come to Belo Horizonte to try the food from Minas Gerais. Insane!!!!
Everytime we go to São Paulo, me and my partner have a meal at Tanka. Really like their variety.
Boa tarde, parabéns pelos vídeos! Assim vocês vão ganhar muitos amigos no Brasil! Congratulações
That’s so amazing see places that I use to eat… I’m a little bit jealous, just a little bit…😅
P queijo brasileiro é muito bom! O Canastra, serrano(de Minas geraus) o de qualho do nordeste!
You guys go a lot there, probably could you go Benedito Calixto open market handle on Saturday
Really funny to see you guys enjoying that much our food
i love tanka, its very expensive now, but i like the diversity of asian food, not only japanese. everthing is delicious there
There is also a all you can eat buffet for Kid's party. If you ever have the chance of going to a kid's party, you would absorb this culture very easily haha
O Hexa é nosso, Deus é Brasileiro, aproveitem a melhor terra do mundo. Sugiro live durante as partidas do Brasil até o título do Hexa campeão mundial.
O Tanka é perfeito 🤤! Massa o vídeo de vcs!
I love to be brazilian and know a lot from japanese, libanese and italian food all because this great mix of cultures that we have in brasil
5:34 Oh look! Steve's favourite, Kuey Teow Goreng. 🤣
good eye!!!
Hi guys,Yvana hope your family wasn't affected by the earthquake,God bless you guys !
everyone’s good. Thank you!
@@JetLagWarriors
Guys did you go to "Ferma Dacilor" very famous restaurant in romania ?Mark Wiens went there too,can stay over night ! Is located in Tohani Judet Prahova !They have the best pork meat Mangalita ,no cholesterol!
Love you guys !❤❤❤❤
Great video
Sushi rolls with cream cheese and nacho crumble on top is surprisingly good 👍
where can i find this?
@@JetLagWarriors I have had this in a number of places in São Paulo state, look for California rolls on the menu, some variations of these comes with nacho crumble. I think you can’t get it in a sushi chain called Mirai but many places have them
We Brazilian do not eat a Lot at breakfast. That IS why lunch time We eat real food. Dinner too.
We have some salmon farms in Santa Catarina but, yes almost all of our salmon are imported from Chile 😊
we also have rodízio of brazilian birthday party food.. with ice cream, french fries, birthday cake, little salgado, brigadeiros
You have to visit the restaurant A casa do porco.
In addition to these all-you-can-eat options, I've also been to the all-you-can-eat crepe, espiha and fondue all-you-can-eat options LOL
whattttt, and what’s your secret to not get full too fast? Because I think one crepe is a whole meal😅
Enjoy your stay in Sao Paolo,Brazil guys 👍💯🇧🇷🤗❤
Welcome to São Paulo, guys! You are awesome!
You should definitlly visit Parque Ibirapuera, it's a huge park, with lots of things to do.
I worked at this restaurant a few years ago.I wonder if some of my old coworkers are still there...
You should eat the salgados and pastel in Yoka, in Liberdade!!!! They are delicious and very famous!!!!!!!
Brazil is indeed the most mixed country in the world
What can we say? We DO KNOW HOW TO EAT WELL hahahahah, Brazil is such a blessed place in this sense, we have so many cultures and a great land to grow all kinds of food, no restrictions, it's a shame that most of the good stuff does cost a lot for Brazillian standarts.
Hahahaha glad you enjoyed it!!
Congratulations from São Paulo- Brazil!!!
