I like the poem of course, but can we talk about how soothing his voice is? His passion doesn't need raised raucous shouting, his throat delivers calm, assured denial, and I think my blood pressure dropped having heard this.
Yeah, it's funny. A lot of poets on this channel feel like they need to shout. While I can understand it conveys their emotions in a reading, I feel like the poem should speak for itself. It's also interesting, as being part of the English poetry scene, a lot of poets here tend to be slower and more deliberate. Interesting cultural differences.
His voice is making me search for more...
In the defense of all poets
who shout in their speech
I would like to say
that we are poets
our gift is in our words
not in our voices
yet we still wish to share our words with the world
so we must speak it
but if we were to speak in a calm voice
it would become a monotone drone
sucking the life out of the product of our life
and some of us just lose ourselves in our words
feeling our emotions from when we were writing
swell up and burst
spouting from our lips and without realizing
we find ourselves shouting
desperately hoping our words
will echo through the hearts of the audience
so that those listening
may feel the way we do
and respond to our cries
with equally raucous cries of respect
so I ask you
do not degrade us poets who are forced to shout
for we just poor souls
lacking the skill of a soothing voice
and easily swept away by our emotions
we so long to project

I disagree... I think love exists in both words and actions and possibly in more spaces than you or i could imagine
Actions can be ambiguous and misleading as words can be.....but actions supported by words and words supported by actions is the key to healthy relationship, cause by being consistent with your words and actions there will be no room for dubious fidelity and characters.
“I Love You” isn’t something you say but you do.
i once had a boy tell me he loves me. now, he is a man who loves me still. i wish more people could experience love as it should be, and i wish less people were so scared of it.
I wish they could too. So sad.

"When a boy tells you he loves you, it’ll be the first time you hear this.
It is late and he isn't even there to tell you this in person but instead from a car ride home from a bar in Chicago; he is there on business.
And of course you will smile, because he sounds like he means it, because you believe him.
Because a boy has never handed those words to you like crushed blackberries in the palms of his hands firm, young, full, waiting to taste sweet with you.
His arms; creeping vines begging to touch the sun in your face saying “here, take everything I have ever touched to be closer to you”.
His breath waiting to be folded into a love note passed in between the nape of your neck and his front teeth.
He will remember the time you told him you felt safe in his mouth, and he will never grow hungry… just distant.
When a boy tells you he loves you, you will hear music, the voice of your past lovers dancing up your throat; your stomach an after-hours cabaret still waiting on the last call.
That was when you learned that when a boy says I love you he means I am getting ready to be inconsistent with you now.
This boy will tell you that he loves you, not long after he had you waiting for two hours in front of a cocktail lounge.
Patience is something you were working on but no, not for him.
When asked, you to tell him that you love him back; you will be in the car in the parking lot of a late night diner you will watch the words fall into your lap like a spilled glass of white wine.
You remember the day your core, your pigeon heart got lost in the wind because that was a message it did not know how or where to carry and one by one the boys have fallen as silently as the birds do.
So eloquently they used to speak until I asked the questions that broke them into ghosts that bled me into a corpse with so many questions of my own for the soil but their tongues do not know simple; the things I should be hearing, the things that what make us living men in this time of insatiable yet dying lovers.
When a boy tells you he loves you only to become silent like a folded sheet of tissue paper not wanting you to decrease him into the truth, do not crack your face into the fullest crescent moon at the tapered bottom of a blackened sky, he never meant a single word of any of it.
He is just a boy, remember?

1:35 I like how he says "like a spilled glass of white wine" instead of red wine. With white wine it blends into your clothes and makes it look like a spot, difficult to see from afar. The same is with love, if you are blind enough you cannot see the blemish in your relationship - much less the blemish in the boy. Red wine is bold and vibrant. Love is not, you are often fooled.

To me it means that something good was lost when you say I love you back- something sweet. Saying I love you to someone who you know does not love you is sad, and fake, and forced. That's why I really like that he used the word spill- as if saying it was unfortunate.

When I told her “I love you” she said back off. When I told her “I love you” she said you shouldn’t. When I told her “I love you” she said why?. When I told her “I love you” she said I’m not serious. When I told her “I love you” she said I was silly. When I told her “I love you, you’re the one, and there isn’t anyone who would own your space in my heart” she said “I do love you, I just don’t think I’m worth it”. I told her, and told her, and told her. I told her “marry me” she believed me and now she’s my wife :)

I dont know about other guys but
When I tell my girlfriend I love her, maybe what i say isnt truly what I mean. Because what I mean is so much more than a single word can ever define. I thought I had felt love before but it was never in this way. From the moment I saw her face to the moment she spoke her first words to me I knew I was in love with her. I knew that from that moment on nothing else mattered. Nothing except for this one moment I was in right now that would decide whether or not I get to spend my life with this, beautiful girl. Beautiful cannot define her either. She puts the word beautiful to shame. Her mind is like a sparkling diamond hidden away in a safe. It might take a while to get in and see whats inside. Turning the combination lock, hoping you hear the click that lets you in. but once you do you are overwhelmed with joy and awe. And once the safe was opened and the light was let in, it reflected off her, like a diamond and proceeded to light up my previously dark and sad world. She isnt just a girl I fell in love with. She's my saviour. She's my everything. She's my soul mate. I know we were always destined for each other. Its like looking for a new, beautiful, magnificent work of art for your home. You dont know exactly what you are looking for. Just for something that maybe catches your eye. But then you see it. The one most exquisite work of art that is so beautiful that you start crying tears of joy. That's what its like with her. and just like that work of art I want her in my home, with me forever and ever. You see every second of every day theres nothing on my mind other than her. She is the only thing that makes me happy in this world. She saved me. And I love her. I love her with everything in me. and I know I love her. And I know from the look in her eyes and that beautiful smile she gets when I tell, that when I say I love her, it means everything.

Falling in love is only great if that person loves you back or else you will look like a fool. Heartbreak is the hardest thing to go through because its likeman addiction to that person and what they did to hurt you just facts

I didn't know i was not letting them until it was too late and it is the same every time. I have had people say i love you but haven't been brave enough to listen, to hear, let alone say it back. I too am afraid to love. To love my self as well as others and i am terrofied of saying "i love you". But i have loved and have been loved and i surounded by people who love me and i love them back even though all too often i am afraid to admit it. And i should remember this and so should you and so should we all.

Happilly in a relationship for 2 years now, when I told her, I meant it .
also, Im an "exfuckboy" if you will, I tried to get intimate with her no further intentions, and boy I fell in love head over heals and gave up any risky move that couldve ruin my chances with that girl.. and we took everything slow I was sensitive and gentle and things happened far faster than I expected because I fair and square earned her trust .

What most people don’t understand is the word “love” is a very deep word..
This is probably one of the only poems that have ever truly resonated with me, both in the message and the speaking style of the poet. Absolutely incredible piece.

It's 2021 and this is my first time hearing this...Chills throughout...the delivery...my soul is moved.
Saying "I love you" to someone these days is like giving it without actually mean it. I've always heard it to men I loved before but I realized that I was not the only one loved by him. Sometimes you don't have to believe everything a person says to you unless if you see it through his actions. I'd rather have someone who is not that expressive in words but cares for me like no man could ever love me.
This makes me think, about a boy, he tells me constantly that he loves me, he's not mine. He's in love with another, there is a difference. I'm in love with him and he just uses the word like its a reassurance.

My head grew clear after listening to this
I got stood up by a friend once, left in a train station for ten hours after travelling 125 miles. Heart wrenching, even though I knew it wasn't reciprocated. 125 miles home, alone, crying. Fun times.
I feel like he is talking about himself ? I wonder, something about guilt or remorse in his voice. Beautiful voice :) such a moving piece, can't help but cry listening to this.
