I have a jeep CJ5 and I am planning to build a very compact box to go under the back seat. It will only be 5X17X23, I'm going to try two three inch subs. I use your channel to learn about box construction. I have been building things for 30 years and you have totally changed how I use my router. I went from one router I used rarely, to having three dedicated to table mount, jig use and free hand. Thanks Mark! keep building!

That is a beautiful box! Sometimes you just need good sound; it doesn't always have to be neighborhood-shattering insanity!
Heck, my media/home theater setup uses four 5.25" drivers for the lows. I live in a cozy little studio apartment, so I needed to play deep and fill the room at low volume, so the neighbors couldn't hear it. It's all about the application!

5.25"s are crossed over at 120hz, with a 2'x4' DMT panel for the mids and highs. :D

That box is one of the coolest builds you have done yet. Looks like an art deco furnature piece from the 30"s. Would look super cool built out of some red oak, or other hardwood, and just poly'd.

I did car audio installs in the late 80’s early 90’s. I with i had your channel back then you do awesome work. I was able to build several cars that made it IASCA Nationals back in the day but with what is available now a days we would not stand a chance against the likes of you. I have to say my six 15” Kicker subs in a toyota Tercel was pretty loud. 😁 I had 3 Phoenix gold Route 66 amps along with an M100 and M44 (Look that up on google) they are considered “vintage” now and even then the were a very limited edition. I own 3 of 4 solid in the southern US. For mids and highs I ran all Image Dynamics including the under dash horns that sounded amazing. (Look thst up too..haha) Any thanks great channel

I am building a single 10" downfiring sub enclosure for kicker comp 10 and I am using a labyrinth style port system to attempt to get some good lows out of a small under seat enclosure. Ill keep you posted this is my first box! Following your videos has helped me immensely! Mahalo from the 808!!!

    In place of carpet.
No pet hair stuck to it.
Wipe it off easy with a damp rag.
    Water proof coating.
Take a lot of damage from things sliding around. Easy to repaint and do touch up repaires.

  • @thisistheslam

Man that's a great looking box. Wonder if CAF would be willing to start making videos with recommendations on subs and enclosures to maximize space available in a wide variety of vehicles? That would be useful to truck owners like me who are fishing around trying to get the right sound but have a hard time finding the right equipment for the space available. If CAF ever picked up on that idea I'd be watching those vids for sure. We all go through different vehicles in our lives so it would be helpful sooner and later to have a library of various vehicles and system setups.

I use that adhesive at work extensivly. The charcoal filter that you showed have a useable life of around 3 days outside of the package. You should put new filters on every time you use that adhesive. Also, if you have a batch that gets a bit clumpy you can kick it back with MEK.

i once used super 77 do do my door cards in a car i previously owned. it was great all through fall, winter and spring but as soon as it got hot the super 77 let go and all 4 door cards started to sag... try headliner adhesive, it has about the same bond but with a higher temperature range

    Quick question.
I’ve got a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JKU w/ the Alpine Premium Audio System. It has an 8” floor-mounted sub in the back, but I bought a JL T10W3-D4 shallow-mount sub to put in its place. If you take out the factory sub enclosure; the well in the floor is about 5.5” deep, 12.5” long, and 26.5” wide. I want to maintain my cargo area without a box protruding too high up off the floor, because I use the space a lot; such as sleeping in the back (camping), loading snowboards, etc. However, the audio shop installing it said that if I use this sub, there won’t be enough space for it without building a box that rises 6” above the floor level. (That’s weird, cus it’s a shallow mount sub). They said they’ll have to install a standard JL 10 because the conical shape will somehow fit better, and then they can build an enclosure that only rises 1-2” above the floor level, so it’s still relatively flat in the back. Also, that the full-size JL 10 will perform better than the shallow-mount.
    So my question is …
How does this make any sense??? :P
Are they just trying to sell me a new sub, since I already had my own equipment to be installed, or is what they’re telling me the truth? I feel like perhaps having all my own gear, the shop will only make money on the install, which in turn goes to paying their techs; whereas if they sell me a new sub, then at least they make some profit.
Am I right, or are they right?
It just doesn’t make sense to me how the shallow-mount won’t properly fit, and would need a bigger enclosure, versus a full-size sub that wouldn’t??? That just sounds paradoxical; the whole point of the shallow-mount is to save space. So, wth???
Are these guys ripping me off, or is this about some audio-expertise stuff, I’m not aware of?
I admittedly don’t know anything about electrical/audio etc. but I don’t wanna be taken advantage of for $1500+ either :\

I was hoping to buy the new Jeep Gladiator now that it's finally out and was thinking on re-building it's sound system too from the ground up (keeping the 9" touch screen navigation system though).
