    Key insights
    📚 Everything is available for free, you don't need college to learn stuff.
    🎮 Education should be as close to a video game as possible to make it interactive and engaging, like a good video game.
    💡 Traditional teaching methods may not be as effective as personalized learning tailored to individual interests and pace of progress.
    📚 Musk created a small school called Ad Astra with a unique approach to education, focusing on individualized learning without grades.
    🧠 It's important to teach problem solving or teach to the problem, not to the tools.
    🛠️ Learning by taking things apart and understanding their components is a much better method than just being told how to do it.
    🧠 "The more you can gamify the process of learning the better."

    The problem is, many people assume that just because college is not necessary to be smart (which I believe it isn't) then it means it's somehow detrimental to your growth. Many can make great use of it. Look at the top 100 richest people on Earth - many of them have graduated.

    I had ADD and hardly remembered anything from school. I rarely heard what the teacher was saying and rarely knew what was going on the with the assignments. Then, I got interested in theology. I got a bachelors in philosophy, a masters in theology, and a master of arts in biblical exegesis. I then went on to start a completely new career in software.
    I find what Elon is saying to be completely true. I got almost nothing educationally from school until I had questions I wanted to answer. Then, school was just a platform for what I already wanted to learn. I learned a lot about how to learn, but I often wonder whether it was worth the time and debt. The most foundational thing has been a hunger for knowledge and increasing zeal for how to deeply attain it.
    Far more important have been development of discipline and habits of skill acquisition. But I could have probably learned that from something like martial arts just as easily as grad school.

      Yes, I agree so much with your last point, I've always said to myself, one of the biggest things I learned in college is how to push myself to solve problems myself.

    • @margin-fades
      @margin-fades 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ved_ituas Which is such a valuable lesson! The question I keep asking myself is, "Do we have to get in debt to learn that?" But I can't take back that that is the path I took to learn the lesson and continue to move forward with what I've learn.

    Hmm as someone who dropped out of education for a while, I'd highly suggest going to university and getting a couple of degrees. You should self-study around it as well, whether for certifications or personal projects, or to enhance your knowledge on what you are being taught in your course. You will do a lot better long-term if you double down on studying.

    I love the idea of parents taking charge of their kids education when it means they are taking charge to help students get the best, to get what kids need. But i hate this taking charge when they’re ignoring some of the intangibles that school brings which fall into blind spots of parents. I’m all for more STEM focus given the world we now live in & what the future looks like from our vantage point today. While i haven’t seen the whole curriculum, STEM is not everything. Critical thinking skills are a #1 skill students snd adults MUST have going forward. But along with critical thinking skills, people MUST have some knowledge of things like how governments work according to organization, mission or constitution or charter etc, rights, monarchy vs democracy vs regimes or any permutations possible, laws, rules, enforcements, need for standing armies …. You get the point. I think its critical that knowledge of all sorts is absolutely necessary part of applying critical thinking but along with knowkedge there exists the issue of debate: the pro & con look at anything & everything to decide your right thing to do. Oh and the open discussions of intangibles like right vs might, fairness, justice, humane vs animalistic, beliefs vs facts vs gossip vs etc and kids should get to discuss love, like, hate, compassion, etc. church attendance being low & lower all the time plus too busy parents so where do kids today learn about morality issues? Such discussions need not be about religious affiliation but about the ideas embodied because everyone is free to chose for themselves but kids need introductions to what’s possible in this big world. Kids will be kids and will make many many choices as they grow up but it’s up to the adults to prepare kids to become the best people they can be! Too many kids today have not had the advantages ive had in my loving family with parents who believed success is linked to not only education but also to your character.
    I love your school (ive been in education in one way or another my whole life) but i also know that the character of every significant person in a persons life plays a part in development. The larger community cannot always stop bad actors but lets prepare kids to better handle everything life throws at them and also prepare them for their life-long further study, their numerous & various relationships and the joy of occupations that challenge. We must have schools that are allowed to teach the amazing variety in lives today but not to push anything other than critical thinking, learn everything you can/need to make decisions, and try to be better than the day before. But if you don’t succeed, apologize where you must and carry on in lovingkindness.

    The 2nd one summed it up better. College shows you can do a long project. But if you are going to start your own business and you have a good idea and the means to get it out there then it is better to drop out because you might not have 2-4 years to wait to put everything into your idea, might be too late and someone else gets funded during a booming business cycle instead of you.

    The problem in schools and universities is that teachers there do not explain why you are learning what they are teaching you.
    Students don't know the purpose of it. What is the goal? What will it give? How can it help in their lives? Who can they become? Where is the inspiration?
    That is why I didn't even go to college. I have never seen purposeful lessons in the schools I attended (I went to 4 different schools, though one was better than the rest, but it quickly became worse, so I changed).
    In my opinion, the smarter people are, the more they are responsible for this world. So, schools don’t need to make armies of stupid dummies. Instead, they could make people knowledgeable - people interests on social media would change from shit to something really good(so and content - creators are just giving what people want).
    Yes, there certainly will be difficulties, but don’t we have them now?
    Maybe finally the time has come to really make people smart? Make them independent and goal-oriented?
    The history shows that the world is young. People make enormous mistakes, even those in charge, until someday, somebody changes that for new and better.

    • @Brad-qw1te
      @Brad-qw1te หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Okay well if you cant google why you are learning what you are learning in school then how would you ever figure out how to teach yourself anything?
      College is expensive but unless somebody is going to teach you it is definitely the fastest way to learn. The problem with self teaching is that you have no idea what the prerequisites to certain things are. You end up learning random things without a solid base and you will not be as well rounded. You also don't even know what you should learn and even if you do most people require a degree to get jobs and promotions. Some people are capable of self teaching and being super successful but at the same time that is not very common.
      If you don't find the value in school that's your own problem because you weren't trying. When you go to college you can either try to make the most of it or you can tell yourself its a waste of time. At the end of the day your mindset is what really limits you.

      @@Brad-qw1te It really depends on your life goals. I guess my goals are too big for college or university.
      I plan to go to college though - not because I need it to get a job and work like a slave 9-5 for the end of my life, but just because I truly want and I’m interested in that.
      But it’s not what I meant. I was speaking more about schools where the system teaches you some stuff like Mendeleev's table, I don't know, some physical formulas etc. Advanced math. Where would I need that in life if I, for example, want to become somebody else in a career? Could you explain that to me, please?
      Why schools don’t give actually valuable things like for example proper nutrition - food people should eat and shouldn’t to have a good health. Why nobody gives you any ability to choose your own path from the young age and you can do that only when you decide which university to go? Why schools don’t teach you how to count your finances and pay taxes. Why schools don’t teach you how to talk with people properly(some of the kids have this skill from their parents for sure, but not everybody for certain). Why schools don’t teach how to..well, make money, man?
