I am in the transition from MOXF to MODX with a lot of headache, but your tutorials are proof sound programming is much more accessible in the newer generation of Yamaha "Workstations".
Hello. I don't know how you remember all these steps but I can tell you that I would like half the knowledge on the subject that you have. Congratulations ... from today you have a new member.
This is so straight forward and great. I hate it when people try to make stuff seem complex. You've done me and many others such a favour Dom. Many thanks!
Love the tutorial. Don’t you think the original sound was a bit brighter? I am an amateur and is curious about it. My impatience tells me I should know how to do it tomorrow like you do.
Thanks Dom , I now have something I create on my shiny new Montage 8,... all I have to do now if find out the rest of this song, cheers Clint B Australia 🇦🇺
Whoa!!! This was a long awaited video. Please, PLEASE do more of such instructive and wonderful videos!!! It doesn't have to be complex, just fiddling with all settings is very informative. I helped me a lot to understand all those cryptic sound options... :)
How nice, just what I was looking for. There is so much a Modx/Montage can do, I often get a bit lost, my old DX7 is definitely easier to program. BTW Think the original was FM, but this sounds great!
Excellent job Dom! This is a great education for me on understanding creating sounds, filters, and all the dynamics you walk us through. Really appreciate it Brother!!
Dom, I like what you did here! This type of demo is really good for showing the sound design potential of the Montage. Can you demo the Montage’s ability to make new and interesting synth sounds by manipulating/mangling random samples across the the keyboard? Something with an EDM or Trap twist to it.
Dom - this was terrific. I have a Montage 6 and I'm blown away with how much it can do. Any chance you could show us how to program a drum arpeggio layered with other instruments like piano and synth leads? Keep up the great videos! Thank you.
I would love to see a more complex synth sound. I have yet to see a good sound design video for Cutting Crew's Died in Your Arms tonight... just a suggestion...
Thank you, Dom! Will this work on the new MODX? I just ordered the MODX7 a few days ago ... plus, it just so happens 'Africa' is on my band's 'to learn' list. Kindly advise & thanks so much!
Hi Dom Sigalas, Could you explane how to make for instance realistic growling saxphone sound. I know it,s in their but I would like to know how to this in FM because I need a good saxophone just like for instance. Tina Turner Simly the best Song, Or any other song but. I just want to know it works.
Thanks for the great video but you seem to have also pitch shifted everything down by an octave. I couldn't find anywhere in the video where you did that.
Hi Craig, I've used the transpose buttons (under the transport buttons). If you check, the left one is lit indicating that the whole patch is transposed one octave down. But you could also transpose the engine internally if you wanted.
Hey man! I like to create the core of the sound first and then warm it up either with the DSP's on the Montage or through analogue gear or plugins. I will start doing videos about these topics soon so stay tuned :)
Master mode is basically a collection of 128 voices performances and songs that you can program beforehand so that you can play them in sequence when playing live so you don't have to go and look for the sounds one by one ;) so you only have to click "+" and you're off to the next song
Not exactly. With favourites you can only mark your favourite sounds. You cannot place then in any order you want. Also, master mode combined Voices (single sounds), Performances AND Song/Patterns ;)
Dom Sigalas Music another question if you can construct a performance with only four parts then why is there sixteen part buttons and also tell how am I supposed to get a voice or a performance into master mode
I'm pulling my hair out. At 2:28 in the video, with the exact same settings, when I dial back the cutoff there is no change in sound. It's still the original unfiltered sound. What am I missing?
Edit: I was using the LongSaw waveform by accident. When I use the P5 SawDown 0 deg it works. But why doesn't the filter wok on the waveform I was using?
@@garydillon6463 I don't have this synth but I'm always interested in new synth tech. I checked out how to import samples to MODX (I never knew it has 1 Gb Flash) and found a tutorial at the user "True Cuckoo"....maybe you want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/76Vh2p9S2GE/w-d-xo.html
On Korg Kronos or Roland Fantom, you have such sound and is not necesary to make it. If I have to make such sound so long - better to change the keyboard. Sorry - Yamaha again suck
Hey man, Montage has a similar sound but I bet like with the Kronos or Fantom it's not 100% like the original :) besides, in my book you buy a synthesiser to create sounds, I find it super fun, why would I want to use a stock sound? Plus, with Montage you have Soundmondo where you can find an incredible amount of FREE sounds :)

Here i am in 22 creating this brass on my modx. Thanks man. Nice tutorial
Now I really need to create this sound since John Mayer released a new song using this tone! Thank you!
Happy to say, that I programmed my own Africa Brass Synth sound and it was almost the same as this except for the pitch env. Very nice!
This is so straight forward and great. I hate it when people try to make stuff seem complex. You've done me and many others such a favour Dom. Many thanks!
Another fantastic video Dom - two years in and thanks to guys like you I'm still learning this beautiful board.
Thanks a lot Scott!
The pitch envelope is a pretty nice detail. I don't own a Montage, but the techniques are still pretty universal. Good vid mate, appreciate it.
The pitch envelope is actually a staple of how Steve Porcaro (Toto’s synth programmer / keyboardist) made his brass and horn sounds. Very nice touch!
Dom great Video, I have learned so much. Thank you for taking time to make them.
Thank you for the tone. Works just as well on the MODX6!
very good tutorial, simple to the point , not just blah blah
Ευχαριστώ Dimitris :)
Love the tutorial. Don’t you think the original sound was a bit brighter? I am an amateur and is curious about it. My impatience tells me I should know how to do it tomorrow like you do.
Excellent tutorial 👏🏼👏🏼
I am seriously thinking of buying the modx plus...
I can't afford the montage 😔...
Fantastic! Sounds like the original. Thank you so much Dom.
not at all , far away from original, boy....
Thanks Dom , I now have something I create on my shiny new Montage 8,... all I have to do now if find out the rest of this song, cheers Clint B Australia 🇦🇺
Well done. Great presentation and result!
That was amazing. You could do an entire 80s bank and sell it easily!!
Discovered your channel today because I just bought a MODX8 and want to learn the ins and outs. This channel is great. Subscribed.
another great video by you....your enthusiasm, combined with your knowledge, is a tremendous combination that results in these kind of videos!

Thanks man, I've got quite a few ideas what kind of manipulating do you have in mind?
wowwwww... this sound is made in Montage I can"t believe this...............
This can be done on pretty much any subtractive synthesizer on the market, Motif and MOXF included.

Thank you Dom, great and easy way to understand AWM2 settings and how to built this famous sound ;)
The Best Tutorials for Montage. Thank you. Good Luck
super erklärt, klasse!
Thanks a lot. Superb Tutorial
Thanks for the tutorial, really helpful :)
This is genius
Thank you very much, please more video like that !
I would love to see a more complex synth sound. I have yet to see a good sound design video for Cutting Crew's Died in Your Arms tonight... just a suggestion...
Or maybe design the same sound two different ways, using AWM and FMX
Thank you, Dom! Will this work on the new MODX? I just ordered the MODX7 a few days ago ... plus, it just so happens 'Africa' is on my band's 'to learn' list. Kindly advise & thanks so much!
Hey Stephen, absolutely, every step applies to the MODX :)
Dom Sigalas Awesome Dom😎
Hi Dom... can you please show us how to make the tones of shine on you crazy diamond
great but we need the rest of the sounds ...please do it
Thank you, very cool!

you are the man bro
Thank you from Korea! amazing
keep doing grate vids!
Dom, can you please create a video on Montage OS v2.5. Even though it was released a while ago. There is no demo video on it. Please consider.
Can you show how to create the marimba sound? Can this be applied to a Motif XF?
Hello Dom, thanks for this video, I HAVE CREATED MY OWN SOUND, BUT HOW CAN I SAVE IT? TO HAVE IT REGISTERED IN MY LIVE SET FOR EXAMPLE. PLEASE HELP ME
Just hit Store and save it as a new performance! Then you can assign it to your live set ;)
Dom? From Doctor Mix. Is that you?
Great video!
Please do more videos for popular songs. Sir! 😊😍
What did they use originally? Was it a DX7
Brilliant!!!!!!
There is not a p5 sawtooth lead on the modx7 ....can you make a video for the modx
Amazing!
Dom has the Montage sounding like a CS-80 👌🏽
Excellent
ok Dom ,how do we do the Flute part (two Part harmony) ? Frank
Hey Dom! recognize your voice! Are you one of the guys from Doctor Mix?
Indeed it works exactly the same on MOXF.
Luigi Maria Maesano you mean modx or moxf? I have the moxf8 and it doesn't have the touch screen
No touch. But to do this it makes no difference. It's the same enine (AWM2) of the MOtif/MOXF.@@dillincasa6161
Hey Dom! I can’t wait for you to make a video utilizing the new 2.5 software update that Yamaha just released!
Can you please teach us how to create a riser on this synth
Instant subscribe.
Thanks Dom!How about some Enya sounds for the Montage?
Yes, please. As i am just working on Orinoco Flow.
I sure wish someone would put together a Sound Pack/Patch List of Enya sounds. I would buy it!
Thanks Geoffrey, will see what I can do :)
Please see how to do a concert grand piano patches
The thumbnail got me thinking this was a dr mix video
can you do that with a modx+ ?
very explaning but a bit too fast, I can't almost see which buttons you are pressing, but anyway, very excellent job, thank you
Bro can u make it little more warm it would be much better???
Hey man! I like to create the core of the sound first and then warm it up either with the DSP's on the Montage or through analogue gear or plugins. I will start doing videos about these topics soon so stay tuned :)
Thanks bro
Can i use the same configuration in my MODX8?
Absolutely!
Sir sorry for requesting out of the topic but will you plz describe the master mode in the moxf in English(if you know what I mean)
Master mode is basically a collection of 128 voices performances and songs that you can program beforehand so that you can play them in sequence when playing live so you don't have to go and look for the sounds one by one ;) so you only have to click "+" and you're off to the next song
Dom Sigalas Music isn't that basically the favourite sounds option
Not exactly. With favourites you can only mark your favourite sounds. You cannot place then in any order you want. Also, master mode combined Voices (single sounds), Performances AND Song/Patterns ;)
Dom Sigalas Music another question if you can construct a performance with only four parts then why is there sixteen part buttons and also tell how am I supposed to get a voice or a performance into master mode
You can play up to 16 sounds in Song/pattern mode ;)
I'm pulling my hair out. At 2:28 in the video, with the exact same settings, when I dial back the cutoff there is no change in sound. It's still the original unfiltered sound. What am I missing?

Hmmm it could be anything! Have you turned on the Element to begin with? :)
@@DomSigalas Sure, the sound plays. But the cutoff has no effect.
😊
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Don't have to download this was good enough.
Hahaha thanks a lot!
Could you make a tutorial on The Final Countdown synth on montage
Saying “Toto’s Africa” sounds weird lol
Toto Africa sounds just so natural
How can I enable sensitivity to the keys? 😣
Could this just as easily be done in FMX?
You definitely could, however, the original was done on a Yamaha CS80 so subtractive synthesis (AWM2) is a bit more appropriate for this one :)
How can I do this on the MODX? I don’t have that first sound.
Import a sample and map it. :-)
@@Aetila Thanks. I just got my MODX, so I have a whole lot to learn about importing samples.
@@garydillon6463

Mmmm... I think ..... With FM Synthesis this sound is more close to original Patch....
Why? The original synth brass was played on a CS-80, not an FM synth.
The kalimba sound, however, came from a GS-1.
Sounds to metallic to me
Que tédio!
you look like seth rollins...
keyboard is so pretty, and sounds so ugly and horrid. that brass lead was pathetic! MOTIF come back!!! we love you Motifxs !!
Montage has all the sounds from the Motif and they sound identical so if you liked the Motif you are very likely to like the Montage :)
On Korg Kronos or Roland Fantom, you have such sound and is not necesary to make it. If I have to make such sound so long - better to change the keyboard. Sorry - Yamaha again suck
