That playing is simply amazing. I have the MODX but I do not sound like him. It goes to show that the musician is the most important link in the chain.
@@hitzoneproductions7858 Actually the ES8 has most of the Motif sounds but it doesn't have additional sounds the Motif XF and it doesn't have additional Montage sounds. The Montage has everysingle Motif sound plus additional sounds. The only sound the Montage doesn't have is the Powergrand from the Motif Classic
I wish there was a cam covering his expression pedal work, especially on that outro. Man, this guy's playing is what so many keyboard players aspire to be.
This is wonderful! I’m not gonna lie, it was refreshing to see a brother on the channel. I would love some more touches on gospel patches, especially with the Yamaha
Yamaha MODX (which gives you the Montage sounds if not all the functionality) is easily the best bang-for-buck synth out there. Scenes are an absolute gamechanger for live performance. Initially I was put off by the complexity but it's worth the effort. New OS updates added sequencer and Morphing feature. The only negative for me are the piano and organ patches, which is why I use a Nord 6 underneath (pianos are fine but just not to my taste...nothing cuts through like the Nord's Bright Grand patch!) I believe this combination gives me everything I need for almost every musical situation.
That demo sells the unit. I can't play the piano/keyboard but this makes me wanna buy and start. The sounds are professional sounding and Mike brings the sounds to life with his amazing tasteful playing.
It's unbelievable I've been on this channel for more than a year and I haven't watched this video yet. Mike has made the discovery of the modern music... He's figured out how to play good strings from a keyboard without using a VST. That's unreal to say the least! It sounds so amazingly beautiful and cool, even without considering his incredible harmonic intuition and musical understanding. #WORLDCLAS!
I'm soo glad he touched on, how great the guitar sounds are on the montage. This is my favorite keyboard ever. I am definitely blessed, to be able to own one of these.
Oh yes Serg. I agree. Especially these days. Music heals and brings people together and that is what this world needs. Healing through music and togetherness. Love to you my friend!
All I can say is WOOOOW! A friend of mine was telling me that the new Korg was the best keyboard on the market but he may be wrong, lol. Two points: 1) Yamaha makes actual instruments so that would logically seem to give them an edge. 2) that acoustic guitar sound, articulation and feel was UNREAL! Those two things have sold me on Yamaha Montage 7. Great video and great playing.
I'm buying this board just because of you Mike, I'm not even close to your talent but maybe my daughter can play this board after so many piano classes. Amazing sound ..
A good musician can make the cheapest instrument sound amazing. We get all hyped listening to these various product demos , go out and buy the latest synth or VST, then get home and feel disappointed because our musical attempts aren’t the same caliber 😩
This was my favorite one so far! So much info and great sounds. Saw only synth based demos of thr Montage so I didn't know the montage had the acoustic sounds on lock like that. Please bring Mike back.
First of all I would like to say I love this channel and Jack's a great host! Secondly Mike Patrick has combined some great suspended, sevenths and ninth chords in his string arrangement in the outro. I'm purchasing the Montage 8 next week. I was leasing the MODX8, then I replaced it with the Korg Nautilus, but I miss the acoustic instruments on the MODX, so I've decided to by the Montage after seeing videos like this one. Thanks Jack and Mike!
Man I’m loving the work that you are doing. I know this sound, and your relationship is coming through your gift! Keep pushing Mike, you are impactful! Blessings!
This man's 4th finger on his right hand is putting in the work! Absolutely beautiful playing, I definitely appreciate the tips & tricks element of the video.
Mike Patrick totally has got it...Awesome... So well presented, and demonstrated.. Please do more Mike...can we get your set ups somewhere with scenes?
That's my exact setup and has been for a decade. Tried the MODX and it's cleaner than the MOXF but I prefer the old acoustic pianos for some reason. If you midi up a DX7II, you can get some great EPs. I sent the MODX back and prefer the old convertors/filters. Maybe I'm just getting old! (Toss in an old Roland MKS20 and nothing touches that big, warm sound for EPs)
Ahh yes. I love the classics too. I have a DX7, DX7S and an EX5. I've had Yamaha synths my entire life. My first real synth was a Yamaha DX27. I was 9 when I had that one. Then I added a TX81Z to the mix. Oh yes. Yamaha for life!
Haven't tried this but you could probably get something like scenes on the Motifs by using Master patches and setting them up to use the sounds you want and scrolling Masters as you need them in sequence.
That friggin' classical guitar is nuts! There's so many variables on stringed instruments that it's hard to synthesize them all, but that thing nails it! I realize a lot of it is technique also.😉
Not really. These string patches sound nice for an initial audition, but require a lot of editing to act like someone is actually PLAYING strings. Strings do not sound or perform anywhere near this typical type of synth rendition. Highly over rated.
The chord progressions and harmony in general.. fantastic man. Can’t wait to here soms explaining, which will follow soon, if I’m right? Very impressive playing!
Would love to have Mike do a tutorial on how he is bringing the strings in with the expression pedal at 5:52 - I didn't see the superknob moving and am still learning the basics on my MODX - fantastic video, lots of great info!
As soon as he hit the chord at 13:29 I thought to myself "This better be Lord of the Rings or I'm leaving" I stayed. Excellent video as always and superb playing!
Great video, you guys have a real rapport together which makes for great viewing. And the synth is amazing too, made to sound great with the quality of playing.
Question, when Mike brings in the strings for the first time with the pedal, do they play every key that is pressed or only the left hand or so? They seem to follow along with the melody, but not mirror exactly what the piano is playing and I have no idea what's going on (all I know is it sounds absolutely glorious) :)

Sounds amazing. Speaking of amazing, do y'all have Andertons stickers/decals?
can we still get the orchestral pack?? I don't see them on the site

I too have a MODX and was thinking the exact same thing
Thats bs Darrick......you always sound great my friend
Well, also add that the MODX and Montage have different audio outs. The Montage’s sound is a bit more enhanced over the MODX.
And, the Montage has after touch. MODX does not.
A good musician can do wonders with just the piano sound. All yo have to do is practice 5 - 8 hours per day for 5 -8 years.
Yamaha owes this man a check, he sold this board for me.
Don't waste so much money. My ES6 has every montage and motif sound ever made plus 60gb externals worth of sounds. I'm selling for a fraction.
Agreed

Yamaha, my wife; Roland, my lover.
Been a pro keyboardist/composer since 1973. You guys are my FAVORITE keyboard channel on TH-cam. Keep up the GREAT work!
We need this guy as a frequent collaborator
This is my new alarm on my phone. What a joy to wake up to and uplift your spirit even before you get out of bed!
The intro was HEAVENLY......I closed my eyes and felt almost like astrally projecting....🔥
Probably one of the best instrumental intros to a keyboard review, EVER! Bless you Mike!
One of the only synth demos I have heard someone change patches while playing, an important aspect always overlooked.
I would have gone to Church more if they had Mike playing the keys, that's for sure!
It’s never too late to repent my son.
I hear British accent, i don’t think you would have found him in those American church...not all black people play in church
Jon
Good point!
🎼 🎹 🎶 👍 👍
At our church as a kid it was an old white woman trying to play church organ with bad arthritis
He literally plays a Christian song at 7:30. 😆
His hands allow him to reach things others can only dream of. But his ears and sense of harmony are what really makes him so good.
I listen to this intro about a hundred times...

Thanks to you Mike. It's so soothing to ear complex chords... 7th, 9th, sus2, sus4, -5, dim, /Eb ... I need more!!!

Mike Patrick, man those chords and sounds on that board wow. And then you have D Bingerz on piano and Jake on guitar singing, pure gold.
I just keep coming back to this clip. Some of the most beautiful sounds and improvised music I have ever heard . 👌
appreciated the weymuff shoutout, and, what a player!

Yeah he confirmed it many time on the yc61 video!
hands down my favorite reviewing video this month ...the topics on crafting gospel sounds is what i needed more of

Amazing play from Mike and it's always a treat seeing Jacks enthusiasm for other musicians, skilled as he is himself!

I use that tip for strings on Yamaha too! A big, ensemble patch layered with a solo violin/quarter really gives you options for texture
