Thank you so much for doing this story justice. I’m glad I’m not alone with the mental exhaustion when it came to this. As horrible as this story is I still can’t believe I found it by accident, and had never heard about it. Her brother loved Star Wars and it makes me so upset when I think about him reaching for his lightsaber.
Thank you for your suggestion! This was a crazy one for sure- I’ve never heard of it, and I’m on the same page as you I have a hard time understanding how I hadn’t since it was such a horrible situation. I know, the lightsaber bit really broke my heart. Thank you again I really appreciate your support ✨
When Jeremy was stabbing Jasmine's dad, and be asked "Why?", with Jeremy responding "It's what your daughter wanted.". That has to be the worst, last thing to ever hear. Your own daughter wanted you dead so bad, that she, actually, came up with the idea, and then followed through with it. That was just cruel, to make that be the last thing her dad ever heard, before dying. That makes his death even more tragic. As far as I'm concerned. That's truly disgusting.
I agree 100%. I can’t imagine hearing something like that as you’re fighting to protect your family- come to find out it was someone in your family responsible for the altercation. Just very sad 😞
@@unde.rtheashtree I think Jeremy could have, at the very least, refrained from telling her dad that it was because that's what Jasmine wanted. I mean, he was already dying, why make that the last thing he hears? That's just beyond cruel.
@@brendaechols5929 Me, too. That's like the cruelest thing to do to someone. Jeremy could have just killed him, and refrained from telling her dad, it's what Jasmine wanted. That's just blows my mind, someone could be that cruel.
@@tyobtyob6826 I know how crazy this is about to sound but it was most likely his conscience. Had he just kept killing him and not responded that would have made him more heartless. The fact that he tried to give this man an answer means he's somewhat felt bad for what he was doing. I know it sounds crazy but my sister is a psychologist for a prison. She has therapy sessions with inmates. She doesn't deal with the super crazy violent ones but let me tell you their mindsets and the way they look at things can be out of this world.
Rehabilitation or not I really, really hope that Jasmine is forever haunted by the image of her little brother; that she can never close her eyes at night without seeing him crying and begging for his life with the words" I'm too young to die" constantly echoing in her head for the rest of her life.
Jasmine is seriously demented, to say it would be better to kill her little brother, than leave him as an orphan. Even after saying he was scared and too young to die. How thoughtful of her.
@@zc6346 Excellent question, and point.😁 Don't have an answer, though. Pretty funny, that it doesn't apply to her, huh? As I said, demented, warped, and now she's free. With a new identity. No less. Go figure. Excellent point made, though.😁♥️
@@tyobtyob6826 That girl is demented, you're so right. To allow people like her back into society is so, so wrong. So she was a minor, alright. Yet she was capable of holding her brother so he could be stabbed to death. We must stop this 'kids are innocent souls' crap. It's not that you're innocent and the day you turn 18 you all of a sudden are capable of evil. I believe in second chances, if you kill someone in a heated argument. But she actually planned to have her family slaughtered. There is no excuse for something like premeditated murder, let alone an 8 year old who trusted his big sister.
@@zc6346 Agreed. Jasmine held her 7 year old brother, while her parents were being killed upstairs. She tried to strangle him. Didn't work. So she slit his throat. Then bragged, "He gurgled.". Not the mind of an innocent child. Children are, sometimes, just as evil as adults. They're not all innocent, just because of their age. Some are more mature, and manipulative than adults, even. They not only let her out, but they changed her identity, too. It's all bs. Things really do need to change. Children are capable of these horrific things. People need to stop saying they're innocent, due to being underage. It's ridiculous. Age doesn't matter, in cases like these.
she planned it all, normal young people aged around 13 are more than capable of knowing what is right and wrong, she got off way too easy, planned the murder of her mum and dad, and first disagree murder of her brother and she got a slap on the wrist for all of this. the fact that she is free, for a huge amount of time now and changed her name so no one can know who she is, is just sickening and scary. safety of the public at risk with an unknown person
Because of her age she couldn’t be charged as an adult and since she didn’t kill anyone it was all Jeremy she was sent to prison for 6 years and then released to a rehabilitation hospital in Edmonton Alberta Canada where she was cared for. I know this because my auntie worked at this centre and said she saw Jasmine all the time. She wasn’t assigned to her but saw her. My auntie stated she has turned her life around regrets killing her family especially her little brother and is now a teacher believe it or not.
@@zimankhan7411 ya very sad, she got away with murder, she should not be living amongst the public and should be sent to live in some far away place where no one knows her instead of just changing her identity
as much as I feel terrible for the parents, that poor, poor little boy. His last moments would have been spent in absolute terror and he fought so hard but was powerless to stop his attackers. this is heart breaking 💔 thanks for sharing this, I live in Ontario (born & raised) and I've never heard of this case.
Its requires total lack of consciousness to even have considered this crime. That girl did 5 and a half years or sutn and has been free since 18 with a new identity and sealed juvenile record. That's as messed up as everything about this incident. I've had such a fear of losing my parents and siblings as long as I can remember...shes missing qualities that most of us are born with and just cant be learned. She's a danger to anyone she's around and I think itd be very unlikely for her not to victimize anyone else. But what do you do then? I dont think life would be exactly right, but her sentence was irresponsible and absurd. The boyfriend got life and that seems justified...they did say he had the intellect of a 11 or 12 year old and the girl had one of a 20 year old...and the boyfriend was abused and neglected his whole life...one could see how he could be impressionable and easily influenced by her...but at least he got a sentence that fits the crime.
Jasmine wanting to go to a foster home..cause her family didn't get her. Girl was clueless af. There are children in foster homes who would do anything to belong to a family....ridiculousness.
I remember acting like this as a teen. I wasn't anywhere near as bad as Jasmine but I was quite the nightmare. I will always remember what my head teacher said to me, she said "there are many kids out there who aren't loved but you aren't one of them. Go home to your family". I didn't appreciate the advice then but I certainly do now.
At 11 years old , no way would I have allowed my son or daughter to go to rock concerts alone, nor would I allow internet use, without safeguards and monitoring. Don't mean to victim blame here though, none of us parents get a handbook.
I know right? But I think her parents had huge issues of their own. I mean her mother is a witch. Really? What chance did she have in life with that kind of guidance?
You have to remember this was in 2006. The early days of the internet. So not much was known especially with old people. But the part where she went the rock concerts alone I agree.
@@issey_19 Serious question. How old are you? 2006 was not the early days of the internet. I was 19 then and was taught about the dangers of the internet since I was a kid in the 90s. It was a major thing to talk about in tv shows, movies and amongst parents and teachers.
@@kristenmae6761 I'm 18. Early-mid 2000's most parents I met didn't know very much about the depth of the internet. Everyone had computers but little knew about TH-cam rabbit holes, creepypasta, the toxicity, deviant art, Tumblr, etc. 2006 truly is the early age of the internet as it it is now.
This is such a heartbreaking case. My heart breaks for her little brother… his last words…”I’m too young to die” really hit me hard. Crying so much. And the 6 year old friend/ neighbor that was supposed to sleep over but plans changed? Jasmine and Jeremy did not do this because of drugs. This was planned in advance. Not do drugs, then accidentally freak out, and kill her mom, dad, and brother. That was an excuse. So was the "I didn't want to do it.", from both of them. They say they didnt want to tell anyone, yet, they were bragging, at a party, about it. The whole time these two are saying the other one did it.
It's so thoughtful the way Canada releases these young monsters with a new identity on the public after just a few years. Carla Homolka comes to mind first.
@@kareenwatson6084 Rational is a word that doesn't apply to the criminal 'justice' system. Here in the US it's become big business. More crime, more money & just pure insanity & greed on the part of the officials. I live in Texas where there's a death penalty but most of them die of old age or disease. It cost more than a million dollars to maintain one of those 'people' & thousands apiece for the general population. But the worst must be protected. Put them in gen pop & let nature take it's course; like Jeffrey Dahmer for example.
Yeah.. the guy who decapitated a total stranger on a bus also comes to mind. He has mental issues. So now that he is on medication they think he is okay and let him out too.

Good grief I hope Jasmine is living a miserable life out in the free world. 6 years. Not even as many years in jail as the brother she killed got to live on earth. Those parents probably turned over in their grave.
I was hoping to find her but she changed her name and moved. She could be anywhere and babysitting some poor soul child. She deserves everything she gets.
How horrible that this child murderer is allowed to be walking around free. Murdering a helpless child is not something that a normal person could do, not someone who can ever be trusted in society.
I went to school with Marc from grade kindergarden to grade 8. I have such great memories of him. Carefree, fun and mischievous at times. I had lost touch because we went to different highschools in Sudbury. When i first heard of the murders i couldnt believe what had happened to my childhood friend. It affected me in many ways and i couldnt stop thinking of how he spent his last moments on this earth. I sometimes look at old pictures of us just having fun and living our best lives at that age. Never would i have imagined he would one day be murdered because his daughter wanted him, her mother and brother dead. I visit marc's grave now and then and think of what would of been if that fateful day never happened.

I was familiar with this case having watched a couple of videos about it on here so I nearly skipped it, glad I didn’t as you added so many more details and photos that other true crime channels haven’t covered in the case. It’s very sad and senseless, that poor family were completely unsuspecting of the evil living under their roof and the danger they were in. Is it fair to the public to allow someone like her to live freely among us incognito?!
Thank you for taking the time! I understand it’s a topic covered heavily so glad I could add more to it and wasn’t just being redundant. Very sad and senseless, yeah Jasmines record was cleared and she’s living freely amongst the community. Thank you again! ✨
She wasn't even a teenager when this happened....brains are not fully formed until you're 25. Her time was spent in an institution, she deserves to live her life away from the public eye. She did her time, what more do you want? For her to of spent not only the rest of her childhood but all her adult life in jail?

I'm only 16 minutes in and I can feel myself in this story. I was Jasmine, except i was 14 and talking to creeps online. I fell in love with a 16 year old and we talked constantly. I'd use library computers, my nook color, my brother's DSi, anything to talk to him. I'd talk to him every day on my walk home and my parents tried their hardest to stop me but the more they tried that harder I clung. Eventually my best friend ruined it and while I don't regret it, it was certainly fucking stupid. And I never conspired to kill my parents despite being in the edgy emo phase of my life. I'd never even considered killing my parents because I understood their worry but felt no danger from a 16 year old who was only 2 years older than me. But I've also never met him in person. We reconnected as adults but there was nothing there. Absolutely nothing. And I'm thankful for that every day. Children are stupid but this... Jasmine went beyond stupid and I hope her family haunts her dreams every single night. I hope she never has a good night sleep again.
I was a super goth teen who joined VampireFreaks and Darkstarlings. I met so many people that acted like these two, until I had had enough and deleted my accounts. It was usually just over the top theatrics for most kids, who was the hardest core etc. This is really frightening.

In Canada we have a system to treat young offenders and that is complete (in some cases like this one it is complete bull). Jeremy is serving 25 years to life he will be up for parole in 2031.
So much about this is wrong, of course. I can’t fathom a 12 year old having this type of mind set.. and listening to the letter a 23 year old man, no matter how mentally immature, saying those things to a 12 year old makes me nauseous
My dad met my mom when he was 24 and she was 14 they been happily married for 43 years! best most loving parents I could ever hope for people seem to forget this was very common in the older days!
Was he really a predator or was she a 12 year old psychopath who talked a grown man into doing something that was totally unlike him? Even his friends never believed he would do it.
@@ezragonzalez8936 your dad was a predator. Your mom was not old enough to consent, doesn't matter if they had a happy marriage or if that's how things were it's still wrong. Sorry your dad preyed on your mom. 😔
Same. In fact, when we acted up my parents would threaten to call child services herself. “If you want to complain, go see if another family can do better.” That usually shut us up. I would rather have a kid with blue hair marching to their own beat than confirming and getting into trouble like underage drinking.
Jasmine was a spoiled brat. Jeremy was abused with possible fetal alcohol syndrome. I've worked with people with FAS and they were very slow. Jasmine was a beautiful girl and to Jeremy being the way he was and I would bet very immature wouldn't have seen age as an issue. I imagine he looked for love and acceptance his whole life. So I don't classify him as a predator. A predator is smart. They know how to play you or at least try. I believe they were on the same maturity level. They were set up for a blind date. They had things in common. She told everyone she was 15. She was also very manipulative. She had him wrapped. That being said, I blame her more than him. All he wanted was her love and she used him. Very sad case. She is a sociopath and should have at least served 20 years. Jeremy got what he deserved because know matter what, he killed a family.
What a story! The thing that 12 year old girl and her 'boyfriend' in his 20's did were indeed incredible. I don't see the girl just getting 6 years + 4 probation .I think that law needs to be looked at more closely. I was living in Medicine Hat at the time and please understand the community is not the ideal, sleep country town it paints itself to be. The drugs trade is very active and recreation violence is *rampant*. The 'Xian values' are repressive fundamentalists who actively campaign to close any business they think is 'sinful', from the comic book stores to the La Senza underwear outlet and will stalk and harass these businesses. Mental health services are very limited and the only 'help' for addictions are provided by said fundamentalists. Alberta and Saskatchewan are in dire need of actual social services, medical outreach and basic knowledge of mental illness instead of 'Geeezus'. this did not happen in a vacuum. This happened because the right services where not in place to prevent it because people don't want them to be.

I knew the family, I went to school with both the little brother and kid who found them and us 3 used to hangout as we all lived on the same street. I was around Jasmine, and she NEVER gave me a weird impression or anything. The ones who tend to carry out these horrific events, are the ones who know how to hide it and blend in. You did this family justice reporting this story with compassion. You have a very good, professional narrative style and are my new favorite female narrator.
I just cant believe this girl walked away with an expunged record after 6 years. And while I agree she was a child, (omfg 12 yrs!) she looked and acted far beyond her years, did Jeremy know how old she really was? I have to think no way. He was incredibly immature for his 23 years, inadequate parenting and most likely fetal alcohol syndrome and a desperate need to be loved, are all at play here. Its almost like they told a zillion people, hoping someone would say OMG NO! But not one single friend acknowledged the horrendous nature of their thoughts and words, not to mention their deeds afterwards. I know everyone will jump 2 feet into my shit , if I dont say Jeremy was an adult; he should have acted like one, and yes he sure should have stopped this. . But to be honest from here he doesn't look any more mature than she was. This is a very sad , tragic and disturbing case. When parents use drugs and drink and leave their children to be raised in foster care, they are setting them up for an end like this young man had. He will at least pay a price for what he has done. She paid very little, if at all for her part in instigating the whole grotesque thing. I hope she has a conscience and feels remorse at least. Her parents would probably want her to have a life, so I sure hope she lives one that would make them proud.
Jasmine was not under the control of a predator. She enlisted Jeremy in HER plan to kill her parents. Then bragged about it. Never even attempting to show remorse, other than when she was interrogated, and then on trial.
That’s more than one comment you’ve made about how this 12 year old who was being groomed by a predator who murdered her family is the real culprit. Ffs dude
@@jewelsjelico9567 I know that. However, she contacted, and pursued him. Then enlisted him in HER plan. Some 12 year olds, and even younger, are more mature, and manipulative then some adults are. It was all her. I'm not saying he should have been with her. Much less went through with her plan. However, to think she is just an innocent child, groomed by a predator, is throwing the blame completely on him, and saying she's innocent, and was made to do this. That's not right. this one broke my heart. Even though she was a kid when all of this happened, I don’t think 6 years was enough time to serve. She had an ok life with what seemed to be good parents & a little brother that loved her & the cruelty she showed by ending there life over a boy. I am all for second chances in life but for that level of cruelty at least 15 years but i’m not sure how Canadian laws are structured. And here’s another example of nature over nurture. I never went through that “rebellious phase” and I know plenty of preteens and teens who also didn’t. It’s not some inevitable part of growing up, it’s not normal, and while nurture will always play a huge role, sometimes parents can do their damn best and unfortunately just have…bad kids. It’s really sad. Her parents sounded like badasses, turning their lives around and helping others do the same. Fucking shame their daughter just wanted to be edgy and couldn’t turn her life around the way her parents did.
I agree with this, while a lot of teens have this phase I don’t necessarily think it’s mandatory to grow up. Jasmine became a product of her environment. She got introduced to new music, style, and friends. And along with this came a new attitude which included disdain for her parents. It’s such a sad case, because from what I could see they tried everything they could, but I’m guessing it was just too far gone by the point they caught it. So unfortunate 😞
@Stephanie Windler I did word my comment poorly…no I don’t think teen angst equals murder. And I don’t think what she was going through was just a rebellious teen angst phase. In fact, I know this wasn’t just some teen angst. Teen angst is like yelling at your parents for “not understanding you” and locking yourself in your room to blast your eardrums out with music. What she was doing was extreme. That being said, I have to respectfully disagree about teen angst being normal. What I mean is, yeah it happens and while I don’t want to demonize teens for it, I personally think it’s normalized too much when in reality it doesn’t have to be that way. I know it’s “normal” in the sense that it happens a lot but I don’t think it’s “normal” in the sense that it’s a good thing or that it should be excused as just a part of growing up. If that makes sense. You are absolutely right though that things aren’t always what they seem, definitely things might only seem ideal on the surface but like you said who knows what goes on in private. Regardless, I don’t excuse anyone turning into a murdering psychopath killing innocent people. People go through horrible shit and they get therapy for it. Even if she was being horribly abused by her parents or something, remember she killed her innocent brother too. Had she only killed her parents I’d probably be more inclined to give her the benefit of a doubt like you are. Some teens go through hard stuff and throw their teenage tantrums but that doesn’t mean they’re going to turn out to be psychopaths. Even abuse victims don’t always turn out that way. That’s why I don’t condone or sympathize with those who kill innocent people. Sorry if I sound rude or harsh, just trying to better explain myself but tone is not easily conveyed through text.
@@unde.rtheashtree This crime was everywhere, I can’t believe the parents didn’t have the police in on this and the freak arrested, tragic and scary crazy!

Jasmine did not mean a single word she wrote in that letter to her parents, after they were already dead. She loves them, and never wanted them dead, etc. Then goes on to blame it on Jeremy.
@@breakmylegs7294 I agree. As an adult, he never should have been with her, to begin with. As well as, he should have discouraged her from, even, wanting to kill her family, much less, do it, and help her do it. So yeah, I agree with you. He's guilty of those things. Ultimately, though, she's the guiltiest party, in this case. Her family would not be dead, if she hadn't come up with the idea, planned it, enlisted him in it, and followed through with it. Even after listening to her parents getting killed upstairs, and her brother running to her, saying his scared and doesn't want to die, she still, not only stabbed him, but slit his throat. Then bragged that he gurgled. At a party, no less. Right after. I mean, come on. She's the main guilty one. I wonder, how many people, honestly, never blamed him, above her, until Ash said how old he was. I agree. It is ashame she's free, and got her record wiped clean. As well as, was allowed to change her identity. That's absurd.

This is extremely disturbing that this girl is 12yrs old! At 12 I was still playing with dolls and innocent. That letter she wrote to that evil creep JESUS sounds like an adult! I’m still not sure how I feel about her being let out though! I hope she’s truly rehabilitated. I wonder why he didn’t face charges for being with a 12 year old? Interesting 🤔. This case messes with your mental though. Please be safe everyone with your involvements no matter the persons age your dealing with!
After watching this video I wanted to know more about children who killed their parents. The Parricide Prevention Institute distinguishes between different kind of murderers. On Wikipedia I found a description of the different types. And imho this a typical case of: AlphaBrat - these attention hogging children are most often charming con-artists. They are very much in charge at home. If an accomplice was involved in the murder, that person was carefully groomed for the job of hit an. The murders are usually planned - and very well planned.

It is super eerie to think she is wandering around living life after committing such a horrific crime. I wonder if she did rehabilitate? I don't see how a good person could ever sleep well after participating in that.
This reminds me of another selfish evil daughter who wanted her parents dead for the same reason. Except she was 19 out of school and too lazy to go get a job and move out. She wanted their money. Very wealthy family. But the father survived. Sadly the mother did not. So the father heard everything said between his daughter and her boyfriend. The older brother was away at college, Thank God, or he would have been killed. At his sister's trial he told her how evil and selfish she was and he never wanted to see her or hear of her again. Her dad basically told her the same thing. In spite of all her crying and reading she got life in prison. No parole. Her boyfriend got a lighter sentence since he testified against her that it was her plan to kill them. Even though he and 2 of his friends did the actual murder. Heartbreaking story. I can't imagine having that much hate for your own family to want to kill them.
I have seen other videos on here covering it but not as in depth as yours. I see in the letter Jasmine wrote to her parents that she blames Jeremys actions on drugs.. if I had a dollar for everytime I have heard that in my line of work I could retire and never hear it again lol. His letters are from what I could see oomph yeah “cringe worthy’ is one way to describe them. Anyway kudos 🙏🏽 great work.
Thank you for taking the time to watch it! The letters were exhausting to read, but they add to the story and I feel like they may not be as public knowledge. Thank you again! ✨

When teenage kids ask for freedom, search for a compromise. If you do not agree with their boyfriend, invite him to dinner at your home. Do the exact opposite to what they expect you to do. That's the only solution to take their anger away. And don't underestimate a teenager's love. Because this tragidy was predictable.
I remember reading about this case when it happened and it is still heartbreaking and horrifying all these years later. I am a new subscriber and loving your channel. Thank you for shining a light on these cases and for your paranormal vids too which I'm binge watching. A suggestion for another Canadian case is maybe Paul Bernardo and Karla Holmolka. I'm from Medicine Hat, small city about 65,000 to 70,000 population and I'll never forget seeing Jasmine's picture on the papers the very next day this murder took place. The murders occurred down the street from my childhood home. Jeremy went to my high school. I didn't know him but I heard he went to my high school and I found his picture in the yearbook and he was in the remedial class. I was grade 12 he was grade 9. He was bullied I'm guessing because I myself and others made the remedial students stay in their own hallway because they were always trouble makers, so I may have come across him by making him stay in his hallway. We never put up with their crap. Be respectable or don't come around, that was how we were. They come along and cause trouble, peeing on the toilet paper in the bathrooms, drawing dicks on the lockers, etc. and they wondered why we didn't want them around. But then after the murders came out I thought God damn, murders don't occur in my hometown, it's quite quiet, nothing ever puts it on the map.
One curiosity with this case, there is a horror movie from Canada (same country where this happened) called Ginger Snaps, about a gothic girl obsessed with dark culture when she is bitten by a werewolf and her slow transformation into a relentless beast, as her younger sister tries to save her from becoming a monster. The funny thing here is that this movie was made years before this case, in my opinion that story goes much more with the personality of Jasmine instead of Natural Born Killers, since she was goth and her boyfriend conquered her by telling her that he was actually a werewolf.
@Kelly S, her mindset was older than her years so the "innocent child" card does NOT apply here. A child in years should also be a child in mindset. She is not the average 12yr old child.
@@jsmith5509 Well then... Howzabout "I can't believe that they allowed this killer to exchange letters with him while they were both in custody." Better? Who ever called her an "innocent child"? Certainly not me. She's far from innocent.

My mom knew Jeremy Steinke lol, he went to her high school and dated her ex best friend. She ended up being 2 blocks away from the murder while pregnant with me. Rumor has it that Jasmine, now known as JR works in childcare lol

Her mom practiced Wicca but they sent her to Catholic school. They didn’t walk the talk and she must have felt they were hypocrites as soon as she was old enough to understand the difference. That would have caused a lot of confusion and anger and she would have disrespected her parents.
You did amazing, but I still wish there were more details available in general. I wanna know if they’re still in contact. I want to know how corrupt jasmine was before Jeremy. It’s so insane. Jeremey doing drugs so young. His upbringing and all. It seems like he never got to grow up. And it really seemed like he didn’t want to go through with it as much as her from all the drug use to prep himself. She even made the plan first. Did she feel remorse? Was she on drugs too while laughing at those parties?
I just want to thank you so much for your wonderful videos, you have done so much research on all your videos and they are so interesting. I just want you to know how very awesome you are and what a great job you are doing. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🥰
As I understand it to be, Jasmine has changed her last name and is known as JK. I'm not certain but did hear that monies, life insurance etc. were put into a trust and she will get it at, I think age 30. Also Jasmine and Jeremy did correspond through letters for years while incarcerated.
The internet usage played a huge role, because maybe if she hadn’t been so engaged the relationship wouldn’t have perused, but then on the other hand we see she went through lengths of sneaking off to use the computers at the library just to email him once a day. 🥴
This story was definitely tragic. I feel like those two were a perfect storm. He was too immature to understand that she was still an unrealistic child, with foolish notions about life and no concept of consequences. She was allowed to make decisions (by her parents, peers and boyfriend), that no 12 year old has any life experience to support. The parents didn't seem to think she needed to be supervised, and believed negative reinforcement was enough to control her, with horrible results. I feel that this story is a true warning in many ways that should not be ignored. We hear of a 23-year-old man dating a 12-year-old girl and think, " That is so disgusting! How could he look at a child that way?" As a female, I see a big difference between a preteen boy and a fully grown man. I have seen some very petite women, though, and it has crossed my mind that it would be really weird to have to try to tell the age of a girl by sight. I think guys are at a disadvantage naturally because of that. I have found that parents tend to think the older a child gets, the less they need to be watched. That hasn't been my experience. Adolescence is like the terrible 2s, only one has to be really delicate to guide the child without damaging them. I am not blaming the parents, nor am I excusing male predators. I am only saying that there is almost never a situation where all the mistakes were made by just one person, while the others were angelically perfect.
I'm from Canada and had never heard of this case - so I appreciated the in-depth coverage. This was very nicely researched, chronologically organized and well-presented with impressive flow. Paired with your clear speaking voice and measured delivery, this episode could have worked as an audio-only podcast as well. All those writings from the 23 year old man to a 12 year old girl were super gross and hard to stomache, but I'm glad you took one for the team and trudged through the audio transcripts like a trooper... without the over-the-top dramatic ad libs and constant reminders of the age gap, to which a lesser TH-camr may have resorted. The statements verbatim - plainly delivered and free of subjective narrator inflections - really provided context and were key for me to draw my own conclusions about the power imbalance in the "relationship." Very smart stylistic decision from you. Congrats on the great work. You're definitely developing into a channel with an intriguing, distinctive voice ... and I look forward to your future videos!
How? As soon as the nut job started changing her looks, behaving strangely, playing evil games. Hell, I'm not an expert, but that kid would have been in a mental institution as quickly as I could blink my eyes!!!
Something wasn't right in that house. They took the kids to church and catholic school, then suddenly the mom starts to practice witchcraft? That stuff she was doing is against Christianity which they claimed to believe in. Then the daughter began claiming she was wiccan but went off the deep end. Something fell apart during that time. It's so easy to lose your kids to anything in this world. Also, psychopaths are born so it's possibly she inherited it? Idk, I think there's a lot of things that went on behind closed doors that we'll never know about. No family is ever perfect.
It's kind of nice to be bad so early on in life and end up being protected! Lesson learned, if you want to get away with doing evil, start early and young! She was only 12, but her words, according to her letters are so mature and filled with thoughts. If she could commit these kinds of heinous crimes at such a young age, wouldn't you agree that she'd be more capable later on in life? Just a thought. I mean, it wasn't just 1 person she killed, but 3 - and these are her very own flesh and blood!!!
I agree with you about Jasmine being 12, and Jeremy being 23, that that's absurd. At the same time though, I don't really think that had anything to do with these murders taking place. This was solely due to Jasmine's mastermind plan. I don't think his age had anything to do with it. Jeremy could have been her age, and it still would have happened. He just happened to be the one she with at the time. She was acting out before she even got with Jeremy.
I don’t think this had anything to do with age per say. I think it had to do with a child and adult seeking attention and unfortunately they found it in each other. The basis of this case was a child didn’t get what she wanted and she took out the factor that prevented her from getting what she wanted. Unfortunately the factor was her family- Jasmine and Jeremy were both deeply troubled as we can see in their letters/online personas. We can argue that Jasmine was just being an edgy teen but she took things much further than what a lot of children do who dress & have similar interest as her. We cant justify anything either of these 2 did regardless of whose plan it was they both acted in it.
@@dollinterrupted She may have been a child. However, there are some children who are more mature, and manipulative than some adults. Her age does not excuse her of killing someone, in any way. It would be naive to think that a child, of her age, could not orchestrate,, and carry out such a horrendous feat. Sorry.
This is so crazy. I know the case and I've heard others cover it numerous times, but the way you told it really hit me different. So much more in-depth, and the detailed timeline really made it tangible. You also told it with much more respect to the dynamic of grooming behavior and culpability than I've heard others afford this case, so thank you for that. I didnt realize some of these similarities until this time around: I'm only 6 months older than Jasmine, and when I was 13 I was soooooo much like her -- angsty, dark, rebellious, and thought I was way more mature than I truly was. I was also targeted for my insecurities and groomed as a teenager by creepy older guys, with stories much like Jeremy's, and my underdeveloped brain thought I could "fix" them. I ended up going down a dark path, with juvenile detention and psychiatric visits too, until the last time shortly before I turned 18 they gave me a chance under the condition that I enrolled in a treatment program, and my abusive drug addict ex-boyfriend (ie predator) finally went to prison for burglary (from my parents), and we were finally forced apart permanently. He died from an opiate overdose in 2017, plus exacerbated mental health problems from schizophrenia, meth use, domestic violence and homelessness, though I hadn't spoken to him for over 6 years by that point and had been clean myself for 4. Which is all just to say, that if not for certain circumstances and my own moral compass and empathy as a person who also has struggled with mental illness, like, I could have made a few different choices and ended up in a similar situation. It's crazy to think that. Grooming is insidious and the child being groomed may find themselves at a critical life changing cross roads one day. Jasmine was led down that path by a predator who saw themselves in her and used it to their advantage. I can empathize, while I cant forgive her actions. It can explain but never excuse. I'm so so so so thankful that I didnt end up anywhere near that path, and I'm so fucking thankful for the freedom to learn from my mistakes and be a better person today, 10+ years later, with a fully developed prefrontal cortex and life time of learned experience and healthy(er) coping mechanisms.

They not only let her out, but they changed her identity, too. It's all bs. Things really do need to change. Children are capable of these horrific things. People need to stop saying they're innocent, due to being underage. It's ridiculous. Age doesn't matter, in cases like these.
Her age, and probably her gender, saved her from a long sentence, but she was definitely the driving force behind these murders….
No she got the max sentence in Canada for young offenders.
she planned it all, normal young people aged around 13 are more than capable of knowing what is right and wrong, she got off way too easy, planned the murder of her mum and dad, and first disagree murder of her brother and she got a slap on the wrist for all of this. the fact that she is free, for a huge amount of time now and changed her name so no one can know who she is, is just sickening and scary. safety of the public at risk with an unknown person

The fact they let her go free in the world is SO disturbing! She might even have a kid and that's terrifying!
How horrible that this child murderer is allowed to be walking around free. Murdering a helpless child is not something that a normal person could do, not someone who can ever be trusted in society.
And not only that but she has a clean record now. Unbelievable
I’m so sorry about this. Thank you for sharing your experience of knowing him.

Very sad story. The saddest part is the little brother being murdered. Poor little guy. To be staring at someone you trust and have that happen is horrific.
Parents NEED to supervise their children. Seriously, if you found your 12 year old making out with a grown adult would you not call the police? Dear god.

Jasmine was a lost-cause way before she met Jeremy. Her heroes were Jeffrey Dahmer and "Marilyn Manson"? Sick!
@@themirrorsofmymind beyond sick!.
@@lindaarrington9397 , I would also question why 12 yr old is even thinking of some of the things she was doing. My friend's 11 year old was in a chat room with a grown man. Exactly. My step daughter is 11 and she doesn’t go to concerts or anywhere without an adult?
Jasmine's little brother, Jacob, begged, saying he was scared, and too young to die. Yet, jasmine and Jeremy stab him, and slit his throat anyway. It’s very sad and senseless, that poor family were completely unsuspecting of the evil living under their roof and the danger they were in.

She wasn't even a teenager when this happened....brains are not fully formed until you're 25. Her time was spent in an institution, she deserves to live her life away from the public eye.

She may have only been a child but she was grown enough to plan this murder and talk her grown adult BF into doing it as well as she, herself killing her brother.
So Jasmine plots to murder her family. Jeremy is still in prison. Yes he murdered the parents but she’s free. What is system for. Seriously 😳

Thank you for that reasonable assessment of the situation I totally agree with you
I agree. She should have served jail time
What a story! The thing that 12 year old girl and her 'boyfriend' in his 20's did were indeed incredible. I don't see the girl just getting 6 years + 4 probation .I think that law needs to be looked at more closely. Thank you for a thorough job researching and an all-around great job in presenting this case. You have a good voice that we can listen to and pay full attention, short or long.
I appreciate the additional information! I wasn’t aware so it’s nice to have a real perspective on it.
Thank you for sharing this! Well stated and informative and that's something I appreciates about you! 🤓💚

As for what your original said, no matter how much resources get dipped into mental health, there will always be ones that slip through the cracks. Edmund Kemper, Jeffery Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Albert Fish, no one knew how sick and demented these individuals were. I'm not trying to start a debate or anything because I agree with you that there does need to be more resources and this town has a lot of things it needs to fix, but do please understand, none of that would have prevented this particular situation.

He knew she wasn't 18 because she kept getting grounded. That's all he needed to know.

Jasmine was not under the control of a predator. She enlisted Jeremy in HER plan to kill her parents. Then bragged about it. Never even attempting to show remorse, other than when she was interrogated, and then on trial.
Dude she was literally 12 years old..
To claim that a 12 year old couldn't orchestrate, and carry out such a horrendous feat, is naive. Sorry.
@@dollinterrupted Look. She sought him out. She came up with the plan. She followed through with that plan. She then bragged about her poor, younger brother gurgling, after she slit his throat. Does that sound like someone who is being groomed to you, dude? Doesn't to me. Sounds like manipulation, on her part. To think otherwise, is just going by their ages, and blaming it all on him. It was all her. I'm not saying he should have been with her. Much less went through with her plan. However, to think she is just an innocent child, groomed by a predator, is throwing the blame completely on him, and saying she's innocent, and was made to do this. That's not right. Some children are more mature, and manipulative than some adults. Don't be naive.

this one broke my heart. Even though she was a kid when all of this happened, I don’t think 6 years was enough time to serve.
Exactly
I liked the quote "I don't recognize this as a relationship." Well said. Couldn't have put it better.

Jasmine did not mean a single word she wrote in that letter to her parents, after they were already dead. She loves them, and never wanted them dead, etc. Then goes on to blame it on Jeremy.
It was her idea, but it's his fault too because he's an adult, it's ashame shes free now
@@breakmylegs7294 I agree.
I think I know what story you are talking about. Was it an Asian family?
Oh you thinking of Jennifer Pan
I have seen other videos on here covering it but not as in depth as yours. I see in the letter Jasmine wrote to her parents that she blames Jeremys actions on drugs.. if I had a dollar for everytime I have heard that in my line of work I could retire and never hear it again lol. His letters are from what I could see oomph yeah “cringe worthy’ is one way to describe them. Anyway kudos 🙏🏽 great work.
Thank you for taking the time to watch it! The letters were exhausting to read, but they add to the story and I feel like they may not be as public knowledge. Thank you again! ✨
Imagine being the guy that falls in love with her only to find out she is the infamous Family annihilator who had not one once of regret for what she did! Sorry but she is an Evil Witch that hope Karma get her!
imagine being the 23 year old guy that falls in love with a 12 year old child...... this isn't a love story, this is child abuse, child molestation and rape
@Scarlett Anne Foxx You don't know it's not a factor, as everyone but her is dead. But you have psychos.
Here in Italy you might find the Monster of Florence or more historically in Europe Elizabeth Bathory interesting to research. Thanks so much again for making these videos and happy holidays.
As many times as I seen this case.. I learned a few new things from yours!! Thank you!!
Murder is murder I don’t care how old you are she should never be allowed in the public among innocent people again. Life in prison with no parole.
Bring back public hangings. If they want to act grown, let's treat em like it lol
Her use of the term, " parental units," demonstrates how she viewed her parents.
Thank you for the great video. I liked it being longer. Very interesting, too. Sorry you had to read the book. Fantastic job, as always, friend.💖
Thank you so much friend! No worries, I love reading true crime stories so it wasn’t a burden it was a choice. 😊✨
@@unde.rtheashtree I get that. I love reading, too, friend.😁
I can't believe that they allowed the predator to exchange letters with her while they were both in custody. She was a child.
@@jsmith5509 I'm sure the child rapist says that all the time to themselves.
Teens always think their parents are so unfair and then you grow up, grow close with your parents and understand. Espy when you yourself become a parent.
Not always. So his step father beating him was ok?
Thankfully the other boy wasn’t there for the sleepover. Who knows what could have happened.
Well obviously he would be dead also.
I’ve seen this case covered a lot. This is hands down the best I’ve seen on it. 👏🏼🏆
Thank you so much!
My mom knew Jeremy Steinke lol, he went to her high school and dated her ex best friend. She ended up being 2 blocks away from the murder while pregnant with me. Rumor has it that Jasmine, now known as JR works in childcare
lol
I really hope she doesn't
Oh wow
I like the longer videos. This is was a great one. Especially despite all the problems you had with your computer, and stuff. Sorry to hear about all that, by the way. Thank you. 😁💖
Thank you so much friend! I know it was almost like the universe wanted to fight me but we prevailed haha. Thank you again! 🖤😊
@@unde.rtheashtree Maybe by all that happening, it allowed you to be able to finish the book in time for the video. Therefore, making it even better. If you hadn't already had it done it done. Either way, you beat the odds, and succeeded in making a fantastic video. Well worth the wait. Congratulations, and very well done, friend.💖
Her mom practiced Wicca but they sent her to Catholic school. They didn’t walk the talk and she must have felt they were hypocrites as soon as she was old enough to understand the difference. That would have caused a lot of confusion and anger and she would have disrespected her parents.
I really like your channel. Just stumbled upon this site yesterday. Great job!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you 🥰
Aw thank you so much! You made my night friend! 🖤✨
As I understand it to be, Jasmine has changed her last name and is known as JK. I'm not certain but did hear that monies, life insurance etc. were put into a trust and she will get it at, I think age 30. Also Jasmine and Jeremy did correspond through letters for years while incarcerated.
Thank you for another awesome video
Thank you for watching friend! 😊
I think.her parents gave her too much freedom.she was12 and using the internet without any one checking.
topia
The internet usage played a huge role, because maybe if she hadn’t been so engaged the relationship wouldn’t have perused, but then on the other hand we see she went through lengths of sneaking off to use the computers at the library just to email him once a day. 🥴
First time hearing this story and visiting your channel! I love it!
The parents did everything right, right up through seeking counseling. How can families tell that they have a psychopath in the house?
They can't. Thats why I've chosen not to reproduce
How? As soon as the nut job started changing her looks, behaving strangely, playing evil games. Hell, I'm not an expert, but that kid would have been in a mental institution as quickly as I could blink my eyes!!!
She was being groomed by a psychopath you mean
Something wasn't right in that house. They took the kids to church and catholic school, then suddenly the mom starts to practice witchcraft? That stuff she was doing is against Christianity which they claimed to believe in. Then the daughter began claiming she was wiccan but went off the deep end. Something fell apart during that time. It's so easy to lose your kids to anything in this world. Also, psychopaths are born so it's possibly she inherited it? Idk, I think there's a lot of things that went on behind closed doors that we'll never know about. No family is ever perfect.
@@saltycat662 you forgot about the man who was raping her and murdered her family I feel like he probably played some kind of role here
It's kind of nice to be bad so early on in life and end up being protected!
Really well told! Nice styling this is my first time viewing the channel.
Uh she was a literal childV
@@unde.rtheashtree I completely agree with you on all of that.
@@dollinterrupted She may have been a child. However, there are some children who are more mature, and manipulative than some adults. Her age does not excuse her of killing someone, in any way. It would be naive to think that a child, of her age, could not orchestrate,, and carry out such a horrendous feat. Sorry.
Excellent job on that longer vid. Seamless. Perfect flow 👍
Thank you so much! I appreciate your support always Michael :)
I didnt realize some of these similarities until this time around:
I'm only 6 months older than Jasmine, and when I was 13 I was soooooo much like her -- angsty, dark, rebellious, and thought I was way more mature than I truly was.
Thank you for your feedback on the video! I know it’s been heavily covered, so I’m glad I could add new information and not be redundant. Also, I appreciate the insight of what you went through. I think it really shows just what could have happened in Jasmines case had things been different. Thank you for watching! ✨😊
