This is one of the most horrendous and brutal crimes I’ve ever heard of. Imagine the trauma and horror of being beaten to death which causes you to give birth, and for the newborn baby to be beaten to death too. A special place in hell must surely exist and wait patiently for that monster. To me , this appears deeply personal, especially what was done to the husband 😢🙏

It wasn't personal at all. The person that killed the Dardeen Family was a serial killer named Tommy Lynn Sells a.k.a, The Coast-To-Coast Killer. He confessed to being the killer. He changed certain details of his story a couple times, but he knew details about the crime scene that only the killer would know. Tommy Lynn Sells has been dead for the past 10 and a half years.

The level of depravity and absolute rage this family endured is heartbreaking. I dont understand why this case hasn't been revisited more by cold case detectives to find out who actually murdered them. Feels like they have left the file on the shelf to gather dust. RIP Dardeen family.

I hope that someday this will be solved. We have decades-old cases getting solved or having makeup breakthroughs so much recently.
I really don't have very many theories myself but I feel like maybe the mobile home being for sale might be one of the better leads.
You would think that if someone took advantage of that too harm them they would be looking to you still but they didn't do that so it's really hard to say. I'm hoping someday someone will speak up or technology will help solve this.

  • @LittleRedTeaCake

It is such an odd case. A lot of times children are spared, but the sheer brutality of it all reminds me of organized crime hits, but no one had ties to any of that, not in any way anyone has been able to find in so many years. But it also is so odd that the father was taken away from the home and executed the way he was and after including the castration, that's just severe overkill and again, doesn't make any sense. Things like that means it's personal, not a drifter/someone passing through. And I also find it hard to believe the mother would have let a stranger in. It's just, baffling to be honest. Thank you for sharing this case. It may have been covered many times, but this is the first time I am hearing of it. Thank you as always for all of your kindness and respect for the victims and their families.

He didn’t “suddenly” want to move back home. Crime increased which caused him to become nervous and want to protect his family. You are tarnishing his legacy by making false allegations of illegal behavior without proof. Which is libel by the way. Even drug dealers don’t murder children. That’s a ridiculous conclusion.

Very sad but interesting story Ash.
The fact that Keith was castrated indicates that this was personal. I think Joyce was grasping at straws, but what mother wouldn’t be questioning everything? You would think that since the police found marijuana at the scene they would have checked the parents blood. In case the drug theory played out.
I think I’ve mentioned before that I hate unsolved murders…

    • @unde.rtheashtree
      @unde.rtheashtree  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I was thinking that same thing about the castration honestly. And I’m not sure if they did do the blood tests I’m guessing they might not have since they didn’t feel it was in anyway connected to the murders. I feel like Keith being castrated (and his member being shoved into his own mouth - by some accounts) is very telling.
Maybe someone's jealous husband (even if he just thought that Keith was having an affair with his wife) made Keith watch his own family be destroyed and then took him to that field to kill him?
Also, if they have not done so, then they need to open this case back up and use modern forensic science to try to solve it.
If this crime wasn't committed by someone who they knew, then it had to be committed by a psycho serial killer like Tommy Lynn Sells.

Yeah from everything I’ve read many of the investigators on the case felt he was responsible but they couldn’t prove it. And without the proof they wouldn’t charge him with it. It’s just sad that if he did do it they won’t be able to prove it especially now since he’s been executed. Thanks for watching!

Tommy Sells claimed to have murdered a woman and her little girl in the town that I live in. Investigators went and talked to him on death row in Texas and got his DNA. It didn't match the DNA found at the crime scene. I think he lied about a lot of the murders that he claimed he committed.

  • @maxalberts2003
    @maxalberts2003 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Under the Ash Tree: I have two observations (for whatever they're worth): 1) As retailed here, the story makes no sense. It's so completely crazy. 2) One or both of the murdered adults appear to have been living a secret life. Never a good idea. However, if you look back to Truman Capote's docu-novel, IN COLD BLOOD and the film that was made from it, MOST murders are "personal" to the murderers. There's always a "motive," generally one with revenge at its core. Personal, impersonal, when revenge is involved--even with, say, the Manson killings, it's never a "senseless, chaotic" crime. Manson was pissed off at Terry Melcher for not giving him a record deal, and mistakenly believed the producer was still living in the house on Cielo Drive with his then-girlfriend, Candice Bergen. The LaBianca murders were committed to throw police off the trail of the perpetrators.
The reason I've gone to such descriptive lengths is a simple one. Unless you're in a drugged-out, drunken blackout, you generally have a motive--closer to the surface of your consciousness than you might think--for the actions you perpetrate on innocent human beings. (See the award-winning film, "Monster" about the life and killings of Aileen Wuornos. )
Thank you for the great job you did putting this video together and narrating it. Heartbreaking, infuriating. Horrific.

I live in Central Illinois and this happened just south of my town, so it was constantly in the papers. There was a lot of anger towards whoever did this because children had been killed. It takes a special kind of coldness to kill a pregnant woman and a toddler. My older sister was very interested in this case because she had a lot in common with Eileen---she was thirty years old and pregnant with her second child when the murders happened. She has long been haunted by the case. I pray that whoever did this, if there's no justice in this life, there will be justice in the next.

Ive heard a couple different things about this case. In one posting it was mentioned that the wife was SA with the bat which made her go into labor . Why did Keith’s father need to use a key to get into the home with the police , as careful as Keith was known to be and not answering the door , did the suspect go to the back door (as it was open) if he went out the front door , he was together enough in his mind to lock the front door behind him? Also he was organized enough to begin cleanup and not worry about getting caught but used a weapon that was the homeowners bat? Such a mystery and things that should definitely be revisited to solve this . I definitely believe this was 100% personal

Sadly this is yet another case where a family did all they could to stay safe but even with all their foresight and planning was unable to stop evil.
In 2000 my mom was murdered by her boyfriend I bring this up because she led a high-risk lifestyle being home insecure and unable to win her battle with rum, we knew this could happen she stayed with me for over six months but even with two jobs I could not take care of both of us sadly this meant putting her back on the streets, we knew what could happen.
A beautiful family just starting their lives trying to do everything they could to not be willing victims even to the point of turning away a girl that might have needed real help but the fear of being taken was stronger than their fear of turning away a soul in need, I hope one event did not lead to the other as retaliation or maybe a second attempt with this time working. RIP, it is always much sadder when we talk about people who did not have the ability to live a full life and are taken far too young.

Ummm . . . Police are in way too much of a hurry to close a case. If he can't remember how he left her body, then he didn't do it. He knew about the watermelon set, so at some point he knew the real killer who told him that detail. He realized he was losing his audience and remembered the offhand comment and blurted it out. If he got all the other details wrong, he didn't do it, but he does know who did.

Maybe the killer was jealous of what they had and what they, the killer, did not have. I sure hope the police didn't leave a stone unturned.

Keith turning an 18 yo girl away bc Ina was so dangerous always stands out to me.
The Dardeen’s were decent folks by all accounts.
I’m not criticizing Keith by any means.
In fact I believe Keith would have offered to make the phone call FOR the young lady.
Being a young woman herself, I don’t believe Elaine would’ve been OK denying another woman help.
I just can’t see decent folks telling a young woman in distress to hit the bricks.
I believe the couple would have made the phone call and allowed the woman to wait outside.
Maybe the “18 yo woman” was a coworker of Keith’s?
A coworker who wanted to be with Keith and was rejected?
I’ve known a couple men in my life who had a female stalker.
Seems like Keith may have had one.
If she showed up at their door Keith may have lied about what she wanted.
I’m not insinuating Keith did anything wrong.
He may have had someone who was obsessed with him…
Could be why he was planning on moving away with his family.

Everyone saying this is personal because of the castration isn’t necessarily correct. This person was clearly a sadist. Castration can be a message. This person destroyed his family (probably in front of him) and now he’s destroying his manhood and ultimately his life. Keith being involved in drug trafficking to the point where his family and himself would be murdered doesn’t make sense. They both held jobs down, they both had good reputations, went to a Baptist church, were expecting a second child, and lived a very modest life (a trailer and one car). Someone involved in drugs to the point where they would be high enough on the totem pole to have something this horrific happen to them would most likely have more money. Also, even drug dealers hate baby killers. I think this person was a sexual sadist who is probably dead by now or in prison for a similar crime but doesn’t want to admit it because admitting to killing children in prison gets you killed. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
