Hey Tom I wanted to say thank you for all the advice I am 14 and live in PA and have picked up fly fishing recently. I have also been fly tying for a year now and you have by far made me a better fly fisherman. I just caught my first trout on a fly rod recently and I can’t thank you enough. Your passion is contagious and I thank you for helping me get into an amazing and truest unique part of fishing. Tight lines to all!

I like the foam indicators. I always feel like the other types hit the water hard and spoke fish. Probably just in my head but oh well, I'm going with it😂Maybe I should try yarn though seems like a better option. I do find a lot of the foam ones along the bank. To be fair though, I have a stash of thingamabobers, all of which I've found in the river. People can't seem to hang on to things. Same with floatant. Haven't had to buy gel floatant in years 😂

I really want to start nymphing but some of the rigs look way too complicated, so using a bobber with a single nymph will be much easier

This video was really just about the different types of indicators to use. Unfortunately he really doesn’t go into how to fish the indicator, how far up the leader to put the indicator, what to look for with the indicator and how to and when to set the hook. Also, do you use an indicator differently in fast water than you would in slow water?

8:54 defeats all the talk about how drag on a fly tricks a fish into thinking it isn't food :p
I am wondering, what are your thoughts about using barbed hooks for fly fishing vs barbless? I primarily fish for food in Alberta Canada. I have been debating filing down my barbs because I don't want to hurt or damage the fish that I am releasing if they are not keeper sized fish.

Crush your barbs with pliers it's the best way you still have a little bump but as easy as barbless to remove

Research shows it makes no difference. Barbed hooks dont damage fish anymore than barbless provided they are used and removed correctly.

Who really has time to cultivate sporting fishing skills, eh? The easier it is to catch fish the better.
