One of the best trout guys I ever met only had about five patters of nymphs in three sizes. He said that no amount of patterns will fix bad placement, too shallow of depth, and not paying attention.
I love this channel and I’ve been watching all I can on flyin 💪🏽
Another fantastic episode. I really enjoyed it. I especially like the episodes that feature Pete as i am a beginner and love his teachings. Thank you for an amazing channel.
Great video !!! As a beginner to fly fishing these are the type of videos I want to watch. I'm from Colorado so obviously we have good fly fishing but I just recently started. Most videos I see are of people telling you only a certain way or thing works. This video is very informative and helpful.
Thanks Tom and the folks at Orvis for all the wonderful insight and information, I've learned so much from you all and its changed my life for the better. Thank you!
Great to hear!
Second that
i appreciate your help Tom and the Orvis team. i'm just getting into fly fishing
Tom, thank you for these educational videos. Very informative
I'll be going fly fishing again on Tuesday. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks Tom you are the best!!
Great video as usual. Info is right on the money. The tune up I needed. Thank you.
Glad to hear it!
I'm from Wales UK (home of the famous Rivers Wye , Usk, Towy, Teifi, Welsh Dee and Severn) and i must say these Orvis videos are excellent.
Thanks David, kind words that mean a great deal to us
Great video, very informative!
Another great one Tom. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
I switched over to Air-lock indicators this season and have been very pleased. They're also supposedly biodegradable...
Great tutorial!!
Thank you!
I’m also learning how important presentation is as well… the hard way🤣
Hi, I just got into fly fishing last year and currently looking at making a custom net in my wood shop class at school. I’m look to make a net that will be good for holding small trout, but also being able to hold a trout up to 25 inches. I was wondering if you could give me a good idea of side of loop I would need and how deep of netting I should use. I have learned lots from your videos and working on improving my skills
The biggest strike I've had was on a nymph. Sadly he spit the hook and got away but I think it was a 2-3lb trout. I am very new to fly fishing but not new to fishing. I landed a 5 inch brown trout and felt like a kid again. It was the best!
No way a 2-3 pound trout splits a hook that think was a GIANT
Thx
I watched a lot of your videos. And i wonder what weight rod you're using at different times could you give a little bit of information between small streams and being out of boat?
there are many variables regarding what rod weight to use but the best starting point would be a six weight rod
Do trout or bass swallow the lure . I feel like since the fly’s are so small they will be swallowed alot
As someone who is a beginner i have been fly fishing for 2 years and never once had a trout or bass swallow it. I am not sure why they don't swallow them, but I think it is more about how in fly fishing you are normally alot more hands on than other fishing so you set the hook alot earlier, making it less likely to be swallowed.
omg at 3:25 did they blur out the St. Croix logo on that rod?😂
How do I get a net boy lol. Kid who just stands in the grass holding my net 😅
Wtf is a split shot
Long answer. A small lead or tin ball cut down the middle so that you can bend it on to your line to weigh down flies and other things.
Short answer it is an attachable fishing Weight.
4 minutes in and at least 4 commercials, no thanks
Do you think he knows theres a subreddit that worships top as a god ?
Considering he did an AMA, it seems he knows. Praise Tom
this is not flyfishing
Sponsor callouts at the beginning are a bit much guys... We here for content not marketing. Please keep it short
Thanks for the feedback Ryan, we try to have AdSense use short ads but sometimes they don't. Try to get this fixed.
