- The remarkable group of singers born, poor, black and blind in the rural South of the 1930s. They overcame numerous obstacles and hardships in a career fraught with highs, lows, ripoffs and ultimately great rewards. They continued on, performing for over 60 years, bringing gospel music everywhere they went, and achieved eventual mainstream acclaim including back to back Grammy awards.

My life was changed when I got to meet This fine group of men. The last time was in Bellvue WA. backstage or anywhere they were staying I got to be up close with them with my friend Connie that knew them as family. My friend is passed on now Clarence and Connie might be hooping it up in heaven now I'm sure. Brings a tear to my eye. God Bless the Blind Boys of Alabama.

Lou Rawls, had a special on gospel music featuring the Blind Boys Of Alabama.
Wow Wow Wow I was mesmerized by the music the voices the message. The hardships these men have faced compelled me to look at my own life. That night I stopped feeling sorry for myself. When I thought how these men overcame challenges none of us can imagine.
I was embarrassed. I had not faced true hardship.
Every now and then when I need a pick me up. I replay that special it never fails to refill my tank with the love hope and promises of our Lord & Savior Jesus!
RIP
Your message had an impact. Spreading the Gospel of Jesus saved countless souls.
All of us should aspire to live such a honorable life.

this is my grandma's kind of gospel music This what I grew up with in the early forties in the fifties this is all I know this kind of singing this kind of gospel these are true Earth Angels of God that's how I feel about they love God and they love their music they sing about God

I was lucky enough to see them before he died, here in Scottsdale, AZ. They played with some of the members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. It was an awesome concert.
What an amazing interview Dan Rather. I believe you are a true man of God that didn’t do this interview just for the attention.
I saw them when I was 5 years old with my uncle. They were at a church down the street from our house. My Uncle sneaked me into the back door. They were grown men at the time. I had never seen a blind person before. Some things one never forgets.

Where is Sam Butler and how is he handling Clarence's death ? I'm praying for all of you.
I was with Sam at the funeral and he was doing good though it was hard on all of us.I've talked to him a few times since then and he was good.
