    In this video I demonstrate how to record MIDI FX from one track down to another track using the new internal MIDI routing feature in Logic Pro 11. Enjoy!

    This is huge for external instruments. A massive quality of life improvement together with real time bounce in place

    This might be my favourite feature of Logic 11. I've hoped for years that we'd get more flexible modulation or modulation routing options in Logic, and combining this with Reaktor Blocks provides both.
    Stick Reaktor one an instrument track, add a midi out module, add whatever LFOs, sequencers etc you need and connect the outputs to the midi CC inputs of the midi module.
    Then add a modifier MidiFX plug into any other instrument track, and with the 'learn plugin parameter ' option, you have complex modulation of essentially any parameter of any instrument or effect plugin. And you can route the same modulation to multiple tracks (something previously impossible).
    I'm sure there are many alternatives to use instead of Reaktor as well. It's really powerful stuff

    This new feature is fantastic! One used to have to route midi using the environment, or a virtual midi channel but latency could become a problem. Such a simple feature that is so useful especially when dealing with arpeggiators. Thank you for another great video.

    That's cool. Something it would be useful for is something I always found a bit of a headscratcher to know what to do with - those occasional effects you get that you put on audio channels but control with MIDI (vocoders being the first example that comes to mind).

    That is great - lots of possibilities with that feature!

    Always psyched when I need to figure something out and MTHG has got a video with the solution. 👍

    This is huge for me-one downside of track stacks is that you can't have a MIDI effect on a track stack, so if I wanted to use Chord Trigger + Phrasebox on multiple tracks, I would have to duplicate each effect and the settings/patterns. Now I'll be able to control it in one place.
    Bonus: this also unlocks the possibility of using more than 8 MIDI effects in a row, for those of us crazy enough to use that many.

    Nice!! I will check out this technique with the scaler2 and record some advanced chords in the chordtrack from Logic and then i try this with the midi fx.. the possibilities are nearly limitless and i think the result will be unbelievable complex and musically! Thx for the video!

    When are we going to be capture the MIDI data output of Sequencers & Arpeggiators in virtual synthesizers (AU format) like
    Arturia Pigments, Modular Moog V, Softube Modular, VCV Rack and others...Is this currently possible in VST plugins?

    • @drvoodoo3073
      @drvoodoo3073 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can already do it. Element by Kushview is a free plugin that hosts VST3s. Load your VST3 inside Element and then follow the steps in this video.

  • @el-bov8034
    @el-bov8034 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks for this. Is it now possible to use the sequencers in Kontakt instruments (Piano Colors, for example) to sequence other AU synths, and record the MIDI?

    • @drvoodoo3073
      @drvoodoo3073 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can, but you need to use a third party VST3 hosting plugin, load the VST3 version of it inside that plugin and then route follow the steps in this video. Element is a free third party plugin that can host VST3s in Logic, Patchwork and Metaplugin are examples of paid plugins.

      @@drvoodoo3073 Thanks so much for the tip. Will have to give it a go. Do you have a preferred solution from the ones you listed?

      @@el-bov8034 They all work well, Element is good because it’s free. Patchwork is the most expensive. Metaplugin is cheaper

    2:19 Wait… you can’t put MIDI FX on a Track Stack. I too, control all the sub tracks with a single region, but the context of your video says it’s the same thing as Internal MIDI, but it’s not when it comes to modifying multiple tracks with the same MIDI FX, something I’ve wanted for years. Internal MIDI is a decent workaround.

    I used to route an Arpeggiator from the Environment to a track in the arrangement window in Logic 9 just like it was demonstrated here.

    Wow… this could be really cool… can you modulate a voice synth to the midi track? You can do an imogen heap type thing, or a daft punk thing?

    Another thing that was added was the ability to route the MIDI ouput of (software) instruments to other tracks. Are there any instruments that are known to be compatible with this?

    I'm using Kontakt and when I record I don't get the guitar arpeggio, I get the midi that I created in Kontakt exactly before but not the phrases it plays. Do you have any idea?

    still very limited thingy. :-( /You can just send one signal from the source track right? synthmaster 3 has this feature where you can add 16 layers, and on Reaper for example, you can send each layer, from the ONE instance of SM3 to 16 different tracks.

    cant you just Copy & paste the midi region into the new instrument or copy and paste the track then change the instrument ?? I don't really understand

    This unfortunately will not work if you select NEXUS and its built-in arpeggiator as the main instrument

    now if we wouldnt be limited to 8 midi slots that would be AMAZING :D i dont think midi plugins are that resource heavy
