Im torn between the Empress Reverb and the GFI Specular Tempus. Both are amazing pedals. Tempus's price, smaller footprint, and added delay feature are appealing to me, but i like the control layout better on the Empress. When it comes to sound i like them almost equally. If the Empress is a 100% approval of tone, the Tempus is a 98%. Is the 2% tonal difference worth the extra 100 bucks to me is the real question?
Tempus is somewhat stronger in the exotic ambient game IMHO, if that’s what you’re into. I prefer the more ‘natural’ reverb algorithms of the Empress. My guitar sounds more like a guitar than a synth with Empress. Both are super-powerful reverb engines, that can be used with synths, etc.
