In this video I clean the disk drive of a Nintendo Wii for a friend of mine. Music: www.bensound.com If you would like to support these videos, please click here steadyhq.com/t...
This tutorial was what I needed. I've seen lots of videos showing how to tear down the whole assembly, but I only wanted to see how to access the disc drive for cleaning with minimal amount of effort.
Thanks for sharing how to clean the disk drive. Most videos just replace the unit which is as much as a whole new unit. Thanks for answering my question. Hope the comment, like and sub helps get this video seen.
@@txubbsy don’t clean the disk reader with grease, I assume they only used the grease for the moving mechanism and cleaned everything else with rubbing alcohol.
The stupid wii I bought for one dollar has the most concentrated odor of pee and I just spent four hours taking it all apart and cleaning it The ony thing I couldn't clean with ipa is the cloth masking the disk drive opening and the drive assembly I'm exhausted
Take it apart carefully. Make pictures to document everything. Make sure to document where all the different screws go. Then clean it with Q-Tips and something like IPA or windowcleaner. Be very careful with the laser lens. Then put it back together.
Anytime i put a disk into the drive it keeps making the noise like the drive is still taking the disk but its all the way in but it just spits it out. Is there anything i can do?
Take the housing of and try it again. Then you see if something is hindering the disk. Maybe the sensor that detects the disk is dirty. Maybe the mechanism is clogged up with dust.

I'm glad my video was helpful

Thanks! This was great help and I was able to clean and reassemble my wii and it now works!!
Great! So happy, that my video helped to get your Wii working again.
My console has the most tight fitting screws even WD40 doesn't work. The aggravation is not worth it. Just going to buy another one if I can find it.
I had tight screws and was able to get them to unscrew by lightly tapping the end of the screwdriver. Took a while but didn't damage anything.
Thanks for the breakdown. I tried it but still getting disc read errors. I think its the lens, will try a new disc drive.
What was the name of the grease you used? Are there other alternatives? Thanks.
It's called GEAR-FLON. It's a teflon grease used for model cars etc. I think you could also use lithium grease.
@@TheKonsolist Oh. Thank you so much.

What type of screwdrivers did you need?
You need a Triwing and a Phillipshead screwdriver.
@TheKonsolist thank you.
whats that battery for that you took out ?
Wirh the battery the Wii keeps time and date.
Was it working before?
Yes it was.
I have a wii and the disc reader is dirty like that and I don't know how to clean it

Okay Thank you
What about re applying thermal paste?
I did apply new thermal paste, but didn't film it. This video was only about cleaning the disk drive.
Very useful! Thanks.

@@TheKonsolist I'll try, thanks
Bro i ain't no Professional Mechanic like you are isntt there any easier way to do this? I don't got money to buy A new one
Sorry no. Not that I know of. But it's actually not to hard to do.
@@TheKonsolist well I tried and ended up breaking my Wii Looks like I should stick to getting a Job
I'm so sorry to hear that. I wish you all the best.
What should I clean it with
Hi. I used 99.9% IPA to clean it, because it evaporates quickly. But you can also use windowcleaner to do the job.
Thank you for the video. :)
Glad, you enjoyed it
Interesting
Thx so much!
Thanks for watching!
😍😍😍
Way too fast to be useful other than after you get into the Wii.👎
