I really liked the village museum, it was like a trip back in time. A special atmosphere given by the forest, old and deserted wooden houses, snow and silence. It even resembles the atmosphere in Kihnu. And after the walk through the cold, the rich meal is all that was needed.
I kind of felt a bit like on Kihnu Island. I am sure in the summer would be another experience: grill, beer, everything green... but also lots of people. Would be nice to go one day though.
There are more expositions and more possibilities to experience this museum, like going into houses, meeting locals, experiencing local life..., in summer season and around the time of national and traditional festivals. That's the reason why there wasn't much people. Also such traditional buildings can be found in other museums and even still be used around countryside by locals. So for locals it's nothing out of ordinary. Second point, adding to Your observation. Before WW2 average Latvian homesteads in countryside was advanced for that time, some even had electricity, phones and other devices, water pumps and so on.
Brilliant comment, mate! Thanks a lot for your input! I really hope you enjoyed it. It was a really fun day for me, that's for sure. I bet this places is packed during the summer, but to be fair, I loved the fact that I was alone there. No one to show me inside the houses or tell me stories, that's true, but it made somehow the experience more realistic. Like, you walk through a village, you don't knock at random doors, right? Haha
Attack of the Bunny People 6:37. What a great historic village. These are so fun to visit. That well 14:30 was so deep. Boy would not be left unlocked around here. Some fool would fall down the well. Too bad everything was closed and you could not get something to eat and drink there.
I was also surprised to see that well was actually unlocked. It looked like in those old fairytales. I was happy to I had the whole place to myself, but a cold beer and something nice to eat would have been awesome!
Hahaha, yeah, I did not mention. There were 2 people working there, but did not know much English. I tried to explain I would like to visit some houses inside, but unsuccessfully :)
This place definitely gives me Kihnu Island vibes! And the fact that the forest belongs to an open-air museum, it gives me a better feeling of comfort and safety! The 2 euros were really well spent, this place really has a special charm, it's just a pity that you couldn't enjoy at least a hot beverage! Oh, and I would have loved to have been able to somehow feel the smell of that warehouse! 🪵🛖❄️🍵♨️
This just shows you really need better information in English. In summer the place is often packed at certain times when there are some celebrations and events, also in winter during xmas most likely. Mostly displaying the way people lived back there, authentic - some of the buildings original, moved from their previous locations and restored.
I kind of thought it was more like a summer destination... and of course, before Christmas it's very festive and all that, I am sure. But I liked it that it wasn't crowded at all. Felt like I had the whole place to myself.

A lot of Viking long house tradition there. Interesting.
Did you ever catch up to those people you heard speaking...? Ghostly lol

You are right, a very well spent coin here :) I wouldn't have gone for a hot beverage anyway. I wanted a cold beer actually haha!
