I had the pleasure of living & going to University in Latvia this past year, and I felt very much at home. Being part of my heritage, traveling to this area was very exciting. I even had the opportunity to watch the IIHF Championship and bought a Latvian jersey. Latvia is a gem, as well as the other Baltic states. It's affordable and there's something for everyone, whether it is Latvia Drift, the countless ice cream shops, or abundance of memorials, Latvia is a wonderful country. I would recommend it to anyone traveling around Northern or Eastern Europe.

We might not have tourism infrastructure and crowds of Mediterranian, but there is a lot packed in under 2M country. Especially hidden places of rare nature, .And too few copscompared to most of EU. Most serious criminals have left for places you can't be tracked as easy as in this small place, maybe that's why. Nowhere near as cheap as it used to be (as most E. EU), still money talks loud as always.

plenty of batic german heritage and places left. they were latvian just like you and me, that was their homeland. back in the day there were over 2000 palaces and manors in latvia. even to this day they seem to be so many there. i believe most have survived. some not in a good condition or in ruins however many have been restored or are underway. after the latvian land reform when baltic germans were forced out of their homes many such buildings fell into disrepair however many also were saved by establishing schools or other institutions there. durbes palace in tukums was very nice, horrors happened there during the world war 2 like in so many other places but otherwise the place with its surroundings was lovely. @@dannydetonator

We had to move to Latvia last year, and yes, it is amazing, with a lot of ancient buildings, castles and beaches. But for me the only downside is what the "newer" parts of cities (at least Riga) look like. Its almost all old, soviet-era buildings. There are a lot of new flats being built though.

i know that during the Viking Era, Latvia was sort of like a Greenzone... or well Riga was, all the massive Viking Ships would Park in Riga, and Vikings would head to local bars for some nice beer.... you also missed the fact that Latvia has the heaviest Drinkers in the World (some people debate that it could be lithuania, but its more latvia), the flag is the 3rd oldest flag in the world, and the story my teachers taught me about it is, around 1918-1922 there was a War that involved Baltic States and Poland against Russia ''The War Of Independence'', Apparently After the War Was Over, They Found a White Flag From Russia Side with Their Blood on it... so they made it our flag.

Putin promised that he has no pretensions about Crimea and of course lied as always. You can't just come in a neighbour country with army, make there your own fake voting with huns and threats, force Cremea deputies with guns to vote for joining Russia (Strelkov Girkin has admitted this in his interviews) and think that everyone in the world believes this bullshit, when in your own elections people and parties win with 146%. Peskov already said they will draw 90% win for Putin in the next elections. Why not 146% again? Russia is a real failed state with no normal toilets for 60% of population in some regions like Altai and others. Chaushesku also had 89,9 % support short time before his own people executed him. Of course, they were not genetic slaves like russians are. So just go back in your 1991 borders and leave the rest of the world in peace.
