I really hope Associated makes a stadium truck of this platform. Sure all the supercheap re-shells of the RB10 are neat and all, but they are only 3-4 brand new parts away from being able to make a stadium truck. (chassis, body, front and rear tires)
Yes! Bring back cheap race based stadium trucks! I love race type vehicles and appreciate their higher level of precision, but as someone who doesn't find themselves on a proper track often, I can't justify spending bukus on a proper race kit. Until then, my Rustler will have to suffice.
It's really cool that AE still has a rear motor 2wd buggy option. I am thinking about getting one for my small outdoor dirt track since my B6 is for indoors. Seeing this video made me want one more!
@@BeardRubEnjoyer haha well I am pretty used to that. Anything I like enough I usually end up getting a second one for my wife to drive, and for back up!
2WD buggy is my favorite weekend racer. There is always a class to race in every weekend. You learn a lot about setup and how to read track conditions with 2wd buggy. What you learn transforms into all other racing classes. They even have rentals to try out at some tracks.
I highly recommend buying aftermarket c and d blocks. Adjustable anti squat would have really helped over the year of owning one of these along with a bigger pinion and a ball diff for dirt. I could not get the stock shocks to stop leaking but donor b6 shocks are a good upgrade and those don't leak. I recommend getting spare front arms they get shaved away at the hing pin after half a season, axle rebuilds, rear body mounts if you dont velcro, wing mounts. A factory team kit of one of these would be sick. Reminds me a ton of the b4s as a kid.
I bought this last year when I bought the Sworkz Fox 4x4 when I was on vacation in North Carolina. It is a great car. Upgrade the spur and the pinion gear for a little faster car and it's awesome to run.
I run this same car at my local astro turf track. I have most of if not all the upgrades for it. I also managed to find the old B5 rear motor sway bar kit for it. Drives awesome for a rear motor buggy!👍
My first RC was a Tamiya Falcon in 1986... Saved up by delivering papers, haha. Obviously a read 2WD. Since then I'm into the Large 4WD Truggies and bashing, but looking to get back into a 1/10 buggy. My local track only allows 1/10 scale. I'm thinking this may be a little "too" beginner for me, but it was a great video and gave me someplace to start looking. Thanks!
A guy traded me one of these for some airsoft gear this week and after years of being a Traxxas fanboy, I really, really dig it. These things out of the box have the parts equivalent of a similarly priced Bandit 2WD VXL with an extra ~$100 in upgrades. Great performance and value for money (with a 23t pinion, of course).
You said the esc was tuneable, this is the same esc that TA use in both there Rival MT10 & Pro 4 sc10. They are not tunable in those other cars that use this same esc. Nice looking little buggy.
I have had this for over a year and it was amazing never broke anything I changed the motor to a 10.5 motor and took it to my outdoor track and handles amazing and also changed the gearing and tires running a shorty battery to adjust weight
I bought the Trophy Rat a while ago & it blew me away with its handling; like a 4wd going moderately, but super nimble as a 2wd drive should be when harder on the trigger. As you said, taught me a lot about RC car control which has increased my enjoyment of my other rigs. Team Associated make superb handling cars & the 14b is an amazingly satisfying 4wd drive car for smaller spaces.
Greg, is the buggy bottoming out on the jumps or is the shock oil too thick / spring rate too stiff? It seemed to hop a lot on landings. Always enjoy your very well informed reviews/insights! Thank you!
Love mine! Made a few changes to make it easier to tune - the braking in particular. Way too aggressive out of the box. Switched out the slow steering servo for a Protek. Watch out for the front a-arm hinge pins....they can slip out
@@BeardRubEnjoyer yes, but it is ten fold better set up out the box for racing. there are inexpensive electronics anyone can get to get a tlr running and driving for maybe 250 more, and it will drive smoother, more precise, and will be easier to work on than the ae 10th scale rtr platform could ever be. and im more of an ae fan than tlr sooooo
Looks great! I started racing with a Factory Team B4.1 and this reminds me a lot of that! If i ever get back into racing i may have to consider this since i don't have the time anymore to go all out like i used to and have sold most of my race vehicles.
Should have come geared up a bit from factory. Part of the selling point of brushless electronics is speed and 20 mph can be achieved for cheaper on a brushed system.
Not sure this is a good buy in terms of AE offerings. Better to get an old B6, IMO. Looks like even a WLToys 1/12 buggy will outperform this in handling and speed. 20mph.. Is this running a 9 tooth pinion?
Don't even need to watch to say "yes it is." I got RBs for my brother and I, and I think they are our favorites for the backyard track. We have loads of cars and scales to choose from, but the RB10 is all about the driving. It's crazy how good it is for the price. One issue is that those old, smooth TA shocks tend to leak slightly in storage or shipping, we always have to top up the shocks when we get TA RTRs. But a bit of 30wt and a couple of screws and it's good as new.
Got mine last summer as a roller. I put a 5700kv motor with 20t pinion. Probably hitting upper 40s (mph) with it on 2s. Box stock 3300kv motor is sloooow👎
Likely geared conservatively as it is advertised as 3S capable. The out-of-box gearing is set to not over-stress the motor on 3S. I'm not sure why people get so upset about out of box speeds when it's just a pinion (and sometimes spur gear) change away.

Just grab a Prosc10. Replace the chassis with an rb10 chassis and t6 wheels tires. Plenty of re pop stadium truck bodies available.
@@henryliciousCouldn’t you just put body and wheels on a trophy rat?

Just from my own experience, you're gonna need at least two.

If there was one gripe about this… gearing is too conservative. I would use a 23t pinion and a 81t spur, both in 48 pitch.
Yup, I agree
Definitely a fun car. I geared mine up as far as i could and the motor barely gets warm lol. Super fun on an indoor clay track.
How fast did it go then?
@ss-united-states-my-beloved not sure on actual speed I never know how fast my race cars actually go. I learned gear up till it gets hot
have this and love it! Taught me to race on dirt and uprade to a b7d. Cant beat this platform but def turn the gyro off and learn to drive it 2wd

It’s a hybrid between the B4 and B5 both very pro chassis. All you need to do is upgrade the motor and rear tires and its a monster.

I've noticed that about the braking, too. Can it be adjusted? Will have to check the manual.
I got one. Upgraded the motor to castle and shocks and its amazing!
*Being 2024 and brushless 28moh is slow now we should be seeing speeds close to 40mph out the box for a brushless system .*
You can. It's just geared down out if the box. Plus this will easily out handle a bandit.
try the 22 5.0 roller
Better car, but the roller is almost the same price as the complete RTR, and the 22 is mid motor.

Tlr is going out of business
Rather have a mid or rear cab body but it looks like a solid buggy.
What is the best ESC and motor upgrade for the Traxxas Rustler 4x4?
Selling it and getting an Arrma or team associated. Traxxas is an awful brand.
How did the controller feel on the stock RB10? Thanks, Great Video

Is this an other rebranded chassis??
@sauliluolajan-mikkola620 Might get the short course version someday then
Basically a B4
Anyone fit the 5400kv hobbywing and is it lot faster.did you gear it up as out of box there geared to low
I fit a 5700kv with 2s, probably hitting @50mph easy.

Sounds like it could use a tooth or 2 on the pinion
why are you running it on 2s?

I'm getting Tamiya DN-01 Zahhak vibes for some reason.
The TRF201 and DN-01 have a lot in common with the Associated B4/B5 design. The TRF201/DN-01/DT-02 bodies also fit pretty close on this platform.
only buggies when you got into RC so of course first few were buggies.

20mph? What's that in English? 35kph? The WLTOYS 11010101014 does 60kph!
which English you talking about
Why so slow that thing has to be way under geared.
Yup it’s a bit slow, that’s why I recommended going up in gearing in the video.
Bandit vxl will shit all over this
So will the Tamiya TRF 201
there is something wrong with your car. even on 2s it should be faster
The Amain channel got the same speed on 2S.
