Unsure if anybody noticed, but at the 26:46 mark the Gunner that died dropped a Plasma Infused Double Barrel shotgun. I know it was probably a downgrade, but it's still a pretty cool occurence.
Man I wish fallout 4 had the perks that new Vegas had. Shotgun surgeon and stay back were awesome. Although I guess legendary effects serve a similar purpose
Very nice, excellent run! Justice is a pretty good weapon, makes you feel like a badass. I'm glad it holds up on Survival. If I did this challenge, I'd ditch Per and Agi. Shotguns are one of the few weapons I prefer not using VATS with. Instead, I'd get 2 Luck for Scrounger right away, and enough Str for Steady Aim. That way I could have a reduced spread without slowing my speed to aim down the sights.
I'd say str and agi for rooted and moving target. You do need to get close to your opponent after all. Sprint up to them, and then stand still while firing, and then sprint to next target
Vitribird travel actually takes less in-game time than fast traveling, this is helpful when you fall behind on timed radiant quests and settlement defences.
A typical Survival run without the use of the Vertibird grenades will have far less time pass than a comparable Very Hard run with Fast Travel. I was surprised how little time had actually passed in my first Survival Playthrough when I compared it to another playthrough with similar hours played.
As you discovered, the drawbacks of shotguns include a high risk of friendly fire. I think shotguns are the only weapon that can aggro NPCs even when you use VATS.

I usually know which faction I'm going with before greentech genetics so I actually choose if I'm gonna kill jenny before entering the building. I also always kill the gunners because in my mind leaving survivors just leads to people seeking revenge. I know it doesn't really but you know.

Man, the combat shotgun in F4 is filthy good. I remember I was lucky to find a legendary bleeding one and wow, the bleeding damage on it just stacks so beautifully. Melts HP bars like nothing I've seen.

I found a wounding combat shotgun really early in one of my survival runs and was set for the rest of the game. The stacking bleed on every pellet was carrying me so hard lol.
Just got this channel recommended and decided to give it a watch since I saw you weren't a massive channel. Overall very entertaining you have a good pacing and cadence and I appreciate not just beelining to the endgame. I also appreciate that you included your visual modlist as it helps to show people that there is in-fact a middle ground between a barely recognizable game and pure vanilla. 8/10! Just recently found your channel and love the fallout vids. I have a few suggestions for runs to try. 1. An unarmed play through. ( fists, knuckles power fist....etc) another is one I like to do though not on survival. I call them mountain man runs . Only leather armor/ clothing, chems, helmet, pre war food semi/ full auto weapons or terminal hacking . Just bolt, lever action, double barrel shotgun or revolvers and possibly a combat knife. You can only heal with a stem pack if you cripple a limb.
There’s actually a fat man in arcjet. In the room where Danse gets cooked. When you enter the room jump on the railing and onto the higher platform. Great thing to sell for these challenges. There’s also a expert safe in there too. And a couple synths.
Dang, no mention of that plasma infused double-barrel shotgun you found. That probably would've packed quite the punch against most enemies with the extra energy damage. Combat shotgun seems to do just fine, though.
Nerd rage is SO underrated 🙃 I want to add, I have played a run with Fudgemuppet's Shotgun Surgeon build. It's even easier than your run here, 'cause it involves chems, specifically jet. Power armor, Justice and jet. 😆
I saw alot of people talking about laser and plasma scatter guns, but nobody talking about that luck perk "Bloody Mess" that raises damage and makes enemies blow. It is really useful together with shotguns since every little boost in damage is welcome and the bodies exploding utterly funny
Man, I once used a bottomless double barrel shotgun. Normally, the double barrel is very slow. It's balanced to fire as quick as you pull the trigger, but you can only get two trigger pulls before reloading. But with the bottomless modifier and some jet, an advanced double barrel shreds literally everything in the game to tiny bite sized chunks. There was only one name for such a beast. I called it the Super Shotgun.
`19:05 Amazingly enough, radiation damage can hurt Super Mutants even though they have radiation immunity. This is because radiation damage goes off of rad resist, which doesn't equate to rad immunity. Most things with rad immunity have a rad resist of zero.

Great video. The double barrel does have some advantages over the combat shotgun but they are subtle. Iirc the high end receivers do more damage. The RoF is also much faster for those first two shots. Sometimes that can make all the difference.
Maybe the higher damage receivers drop earlier than the corresponding combat shotgun receivers? Or maybe I just remember wrong. But that ability to get two shots off very rapidly can be a reason to use a double barrel rather than a combat shotgun in a tight spot.

This run is very inspiring. I am probably going to try a similar build as yours, i like shotguns in videogames quite alot. The one shot one kill potential, my God :) To be honest, i have never finished fallout 4-s main questline. Recently i have played skyrim through the 3 main questlines though i never had all achievements. Maybe im going to try that soon :)
Challenges I've done include a "no crafting" (can't make or modify anything) challenge and "No trader" (can't use vendors) challenge, but honestly, they weren't that difficult. That was entertaining. Thanks.

yes, absolutely turn on fast travel. Timewasting by having to trek across the commonwealth countless times is just annoying. I honestly wouldn't be against allowing saves as well, since again, it just reduces wasted time having to retry things because of the stupid 'can only save at beds' thing, especially with how buggy FO4 can be. It's what I do whenever I play FO4 survival difficulty

Can you beat Fallout 4 Survival as a Gangster/Bootlegger? Requirements: • Only use the Submachine Gun • Wear Suit + Trilby/Fedora • Armor can only be gained through ballistic weave • Make use of chem crafting • Complete Nuka-World DLC
The Double-Barrel has 1 important advantage over the Combat Shotgun, which is lower AP cost in VATS. Couple this with Quick Hands rank 2, and you can fire many times in one VATS activation. This basically makes up for being only 2 shots. In addition, a good Double-Barrel build will have PER 10 for Concentrated Fire, since you can take so many shots in VATS. With 8 AGI already, for Quick Hands, may as well go to 10 for Gun-Fu. The Double-Barrel is one of the few powerful weapons with enough VATS activations to make this perk worthwhile. If your starting build is 9 PER (+PER Bobblehead), and 9 AGI (+special book), you’ll have 5 points leftover. I would recommend distributing them however you see fit between STR, END and CHR. Gun Nut is not necessary, since heavily modded Double-Barrels are sold early on, and the best versions not long after.

i feel like not being able to fast travel does add to the challenge, at least for the early game before you get your set up, but then yea its kinda just a time waster
About survival: something i always hated is that you can't customize it, i wish i could add some of the survival things but keep others thinks as in the other difficulties, sadly you can't do that (at least on PS4), so yeah, i'd say it's ok to enable fast travels. About the run: i really hate that apparently nobody realises the enrgy weapons are shotguns, just like you can mod them to become pistols, machineguns and rifles you can actually made them be shotguns, surely the legendary one you had might be better but i think the energy ones might have helped in conserve ammo. Don't get me wrong tho, i'm not talking about you specifically, it's just something that always bothered me in every video where people list "shotguns" and forget the energy weapons.
I knew they could be made into shotguns, it's one of my favorite ways to run a laser rifle, in my crafting run I build my favorite version of a laser rifle. Automatic shotgun. I didn't use them in this run because I plan to save them for other runs.

Did you consider using splitter mods for laser rifles and plasma rifles? I feel it would have helped spice up the weapon pool

Bleed is especially good on shotguns because each pellet causes its own bleed effect, and all the effects stack

yes, 8 pellets with 30% chance to stagger should be a 5.76% chance to not stagger, so a 96.24% chance to stagger.

from experience the combat shotgun is top tier when dispatching raiders and gunners alike, even the occasional deathclaw.
I would've counted energy weapons with Splitters as "shotguns" just for variety. But anyways, great run!
I think that a good challenge may be no weapon or armor mods just the regular bass wepon and armor with nothing more

I'm doing a "Grandpa with only a double barrel and a sledgehammer" playthrough, but I think it would be fun to watch you do a sledgehammer only run, maybe throw in some quirky stuff too like explosives or something!

The Double-Barrel has 1 important advantage over the Combat Shotgun, which is lower AP cost in VATS.
Couple this with Quick Hands rank 2, and you can fire many times in one VATS activation. This basically makes up for being only 2 shots.
In addition, a good Double-Barrel build will have PER 10 for Concentrated Fire, since you can take so many shots in VATS.
With 8 AGI already, for Quick Hands, may as well go to 10 for Gun-Fu. The Double-Barrel is one of the few powerful weapons with enough VATS activations to make this perk worthwhile.
If your starting build is 9 PER (+PER Bobblehead), and 9 AGI (+special book), you’ll have 5 points leftover. I would recommend distributing them however you see fit between STR, END and CHR.
Gun Nut is not necessary, since heavily modded Double-Barrels are sold early on, and the best versions not long after.
Nice build idea. Alternatively, go high agility and luck. Go watch Fudge Muppets Gunslinger build. Just replace the double barrel for the Pistols.

ngl, shotguns in survival are great, i use them all the time
i feel like not being able to fast travel does add to the challenge, at least for the early game before you get your set up, but then yea its kinda just a time waster
About survival: something i always hated is that you can't customize it, i wish i could add some of the survival things but keep others thinks as in the other difficulties, sadly you can't do that (at least on PS4), so yeah, i'd say it's ok to enable fast travels.
About the run: i really hate that apparently nobody realises the enrgy weapons are shotguns, just like you can mod them to become pistols, machineguns and rifles you can actually made them be shotguns, surely the legendary one you had might be better but i think the energy ones might have helped in conserve ammo.
Don't get me wrong tho, i'm not talking about you specifically, it's just something that always bothered me in every video where people list "shotguns" and forget the energy weapons.
I knew they could be made into shotguns, it's one of my favorite ways to run a laser rifle, in my crafting run I build my favorite version of a laser rifle. Automatic shotgun. I didn't use them in this run because I plan to save them for other runs.

There is well two more shotgun it is the handmade shotgun one is like your base double barrel shotgun and the another one is triple barrel shotgun but it is a creation club item

If you run south straight to the Blood Clinic, you can often find a combat shotgun in the back of the van outside, also a combat rifle on the roof.
