bro when I say the movie blew it all on the practical effects I mean it. the very first death in the movie sets the bar high on the gore, and when you get to the yellow room scene it goes on for fucking ever. like at one point, I turned away and the sounds of the person being just absolutely obliterated made it even harder to ignore and when I looked up the final product will stay with you. arts fucking vicious in this and for the first time ever, I kept turning to a buddy of mine and went, "oh yeah he's a bad guy alright". like he's MEAN, still funny. but the dude acts like a villain in it lol even for horror movie standards. I hope you enjoy it but if you can't get past the opening kill you probably won't get through any other one

I saw a clip from this movie on Twitter because I read an article talking about how people were fainting and puking in the theaters. I said "yeah right" then I watched the clip. While I didn't throw up, I did feel pretty bad after watching it and thought maybe that movie is not for me. I know it might be unfair to judge it based on a minute long clip but I had the feeling this movie exists to wallow in sadism. And I'm someone who enjoyed The Sadness.

It's nowhere near as uncomfortable as The Sadness was. I too enjoyed the Sadness, bought the disc on 4k, but what made that uncomfortable was the sexual element to everything. You don't get that a lot with flicks like that and it made it hard to watch (which is a good thing for a sicko like me). Terrifier 2 is just fun, over-the-top gore with a really amusing to watch baddie. That said, your comment was a year ago, so maybe you've seen it since! :)

I've been a fan of TERRIFIER since it first came out. I watched TERRIFIER 2 this week and it was fantastic. I kept thinking, "I'm so glad this is a long film because every minute is brilliant - the more the better!" It's a great horror film that still retains a sense of fun while being incredibly gory and brutal...and I am thrilled to see a low-budget indie horror film becoming so hugely popular.

I feel like T2 is getting worse and worse with age. I've grown a whole new appreciation for the original which in the end beats the pants off it's sequel imo. Art in T2 feels like an 'impersonation' of art. It's almost as if they went A nightmare on Elm Street 4: Dream master with T2, and sold out a little in order to make it appeal to the mainstream.
I didn't like Sianna's brother either(Casting was off imo), The death sequence at the halloween store was just awful(CG effects needed to go),Certain scenes dragged for too long(Club/dance party being the finest ex, and tearing apart that possum in the school hallway was just hokey.) and i just don't get the praise for that dream sequence in the beginning.
My favorite part in the entire movie, was...well, the beginning. Art murdering that Dr., and then cleaning himself up at the laundry mat was when the movie peaked. :D It's just, when you re-watch the orginal, Art's performance is vastly better. His face is more freakish/gaunt, his mannerisms are creepier and more expressive, i just prefer it's darker grittier grind house vibe and setting. And it never got all cheesy and fantastical either. I LIKE cheesy and fantastical, but the sequel got too carried away. Plus sienna's heavy breathing was just excessive. :P

The feeling you get when a certain film maker is at the helm. THis movie has a very inventive and unique tone imo. As completely over the top as the gore scenes are, they mostly aren't the same old thing you've seen a million times before. Leone has a vision, and it comes through and I dug it. Hot take: What made the first Terrifier movie so scary was that you believed Art the Clown was a real serial killer. (Like an actual guy who chooses to dress up like a mime and reek havoc.) He was mysterious, he was funny, and that I believe is his primary allure. In the second film, while it still had its “terrifying” moments; the story leaned too far into Science Fiction (or metaphysical or theological horror) for my taste. Don’t get me wrong, I loved some of the dream-like elements, (like the Clown Cafe scenes) but I would have been contented if they remained just that: a dream. By leaning too far into sci-fi or metaphysical horror, Art lost some of his relatability and believability. While I know these films are sort of a tribute and a parody of the Grindhouse/Art Film genre… Making the metaphors so heavy-handed. (Like the main girl dressed as a literal Angel, as if we couldn’t tell that the guy who goes around randomly murdering people is the villain), even though it’s meant to be intentionally kitschy, also takes away some of the thrill from the film. (I keep thinking there’s some deep subversive meaning in these choices, but if there is, it was lost on me.)The moral ambiguities of the characters of the first film is what made them interesting to watch, whereas these characters are so one-dimensional and stereotypical of the genre that no longer seem like believable characters.
The pale girl, in my opinion, is a completely superfluous character; and the scene where she is introduced (in the laundromat where she sees Art naked) is so unnecessary, gross, and cringy. That scene belongs in Cuties, and while I didn’t find that scene particularly terrifying; I’m sure the young actress who played the part did, lol! (And I couldn’t help but think of that MAD TV skit where the father walks into the living room wearing his underwear, it was that embarrassing.) The end of the movie was terrible, and while it was a fun experience, overall, the ending made it feel like one of those Marvel movies where script writers have three endings to choose from, so they just pick all three. The story never really ends, and nothing is actually resolved. Contrast this to a classic film, like Carrie, where things are resolved, loose ends are tied up neatly with a bow; but there’s still a unexpected surprise ending, one that could have still worked as a cliffhanger, had they (meaning Stephan King) made a sequel. Today’s filmmakers should take a page out of the books they are copying, if they want to make movies that can actually withstand the test of time.

I think Terrifier has the makings of a classic horror franchise-albeit a slightly more obscure / niche one because of how graphic it is. At the heart of any classic horror franchise is a great monster, and Art the Clown certainly is that. He’s wildly sadistic, always seeking to kill in the most cruel, painful and creative of ways. And what sets him apart from other classic horror monsters/villains is how animated and expressive he is. His moments of playful and silliness juxtaposed with his sociopathic behavior makes him both hilarious and absolutely terrifying (Fitting title choice by Leone there haha).
Now, this movie definitely had its flaws. The overly long run time, particularly due to its drawn out end, is the most glaring. The film should have been edited down, that’s for sure. With that being said, the plot and the characters introduced in this movie were fantastic. I enjoyed the first one for what it was but without a plot there wasn’t a whole lot to come back for in terms of rewatches. I was impressed with the writing, the acting and of course, the practical effects. The Ally bedroom scene will forever be burned into my mind-easily the coolest and most vile kill i’ve seen on screen.
I’m really excited to see where this franchise goes, and i’m curious to see how the mythology of Terrifier unfolds. I’m optimistic with Damien Leone at the helm.
