Do you have any tips to do this without getting darced? That arm extension seems risky.

When you do the move in real time, there isn't enough time for the person to set up the darce. Watch the replay at the end. That being said, if the person knows this escape, there is a chance of him attacking, but that's why you gotta move fast under the leg to avoid his counters.

That won't work if there is a cross face grip? Why would you knee on belly and not cross face then only to lose the position? Look how your opponent has only one grip? The other arm should be a cross face grip? I have seen a black belt do this on a brown belt for almost 5mins controlling, and knee belly like a loop. Still haven't seen a good technique from escaping the knee on belly with a cross face grip?

There is a purple belt in my school who always uses the knee on belly and wait for ppl to start escaping. He will then pull them up as he drives his knee into the sternum with all his weight & strength to get a tap. He is big, strong and obviously more skilled. Quite a few ppl have complained about him and i doubt he is changing any time soon. Anyways, I cant seem to survive this douchebag move long enough to even execute going underneath his legs for the escape.

I deal with a similar purple belt.

Presence of Mind The scary thing is when you hear the head instructor going... "Yeah! More pressure, make sure he feels it and get that tap. You need to make sure you do this at all competitions." Right then and there, you know that you are passed over as an after thought and its only gonna get worse as you continue to train in that school.

I'm a purple belt and i know better than to do knee on belly on lower belts. That is a douche-bag move, he must get a kick by beating on lower belts. wish i knew what school it was so i could go to open mat and help you out bro.... Good luck!

emmanuel garcia LOL I am in Singapore so travelling over here would be hard. I am also not keen in name dropping the gym. A simple KoB isn't a problem, but having a 4 stripe purple belt driving his knee into my sternum, especially when he is bigger and stronger, I just give him the tap if he wants it so bad.
