    Respect for testing 100+ cars lol, I found out so much new stuff about tuning in this game and it was a really informative video! 👍

      Also sports tyres disadvantage the rwd, oof

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad you found it informative! Yeah, the RWD disadvantage is a bit unfortunate, but on high-speed tracks it doesn't matter that much because of the ride height trick. I was able to beat the Lancer with the Corvette Coupe on Midfield but it took a lot of attempts because of how crazy its handling is. It was actually more even between the RWD's and the 4WD's than I thought it'd be, after I remembered I could use the ride height trick.

    Woah you went for testing nearly 100 cars😯. I bought the Lancer RS and did the same upgrades you did in the video, but i got 30k left to buy some rims and weight reduction s3 and saved up later for super soft tyres.

      Yep indeed. The 100k budget included the cost of the car, so that's probably how you ended up with 30k extra. Glad I was able to help!

    Testing all these cars must have been a trip xD

    • @TeaKanji

      Hehe, yeah, it was fun though. The only one that was frustating to test was the Corvette Coupe; I had to buy and tune it at least a dozen times to figure out the best combination of parts. I didn't want to use up a big chunk of the budget on custom suspension, but the car's wild handling left me no choice.

    Awesome intro music! Really fits the GT vibe!
    Also, many thanks for reinvigorating my interest in GT2. I havn't played it since my dad bought me a PS1 along with the game itself back in 2000. Subscribed!

      Thank you! Glad you appreciated it. I had a lot of fun making the intro track; Rhodes piano + organ = instant GT vibes. No better time to revisit GT2 as well, with how great the game looks when emulated.

      @@TeaKanji True that! Also, do you have any idea how Nightdrive went about organizing those AI races for the tournament?
      I understand he/she is controlling one car always so 5 AI are racing, but how does one select the specific cars to feature in the race; let alone specific cars with the right tuning?
      Just curious is all! ^^

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question; I asked them before making this video since I wanted to do the same in my intro to show each car's realistic performance, but apparently it's complicated.
      Basically, there are a set of cheat codes that let you 'replace' the AI drivers with the cars in slots 1 - 5 in your garage (I'll add these to the description). However, from my experience, this only changes the body, and the car's tuning and performance doesn't carry over. I've tried using it with an Escudo, along with cars that have extreme suspension setups like 10.0 / 10.0 camber, but the host car doesn't replicate it.
      Some claim it's emulator-dependent, and Nightdrive said they had to mess with saves and save states, along with doing it exclusively on the NA Tuned Car Cup, to get it to work. Personally, I'm not sure what to believe, since I couldn't find any examples of it clearly working, and it seems weird to me that it works on some emulators but not others. There was a thread on GTPlanet about it as well which was inconclusive.
      What I ended up doing for the intro was using the replacement codes, then using some extra codes to change the grip of each AI car. That's why you see the Lancer and Supra drift around corners, since I lowered the rear wheel grip on them.
      Edit: I just found this 6 year old comment on an old MattJ155 video. I don't think this is what Nightdrive is using but it seems like it might properly do the trick. Credit to Lamar Ceosen:
      "In order to do it, you will need [pec] and any hex editor (configured for use with [pec]). Then it goes like this:
      ---
      Load a Machine Test/race with the car whose stats you want to get. Do a memory dump (Ctrl + J, this will open the hex editor with all of the psx's memory loaded) and go to memory address 1DE8C2 (for NTSC-U/C v1.2, 1DE8F2 for PAL and 1DE722 for NTSC-J v1.1). This is where the performance data is loaded. The block from 1DE8C2 to 1DEA6B holds data for the 6th place car, while the block from 1DEA82 to 1DEC2B holds data for the 5th place, and so on. Copy what you need there to notepad.
      Now, jump to 1D58B8 (again for NTSC-U/C v1.2, 1D58E8 for PAL and 1D5718 for NTSC-J v1.1). This area holds data about the race itself - event code, number of cars, laps, course, etc - as well as cosmetic data (also some extra things like Yaw Control, but nothing too critical) for the cars. The block from 1D58B8 to 1D5947 is the data for the 6th place, with the very next bytes being the car's name seen on the results and replay. The block from 1D5988 to 1D5A17 is the data for the 5th place, and so on. Copy the data here, but pay attention to the last few bytes before the name. The player's car will show something like "00 05 03" - I don't know what the first byte is (it's set to 01 for A.I. cars), but the other two are the grid position ("05" is 6th place, "04" is 5th place, etc.) and the control type ("01" for A.I., "02" for Ghost, "03" for Player 1 and "04" for Player 2). Don't forget to change them according to what you're planning to do.
      After gathering all the data you need, close the editor, pick another car and repeat the process. In the end, just copy-paste the data you've copied into the appropriate memory areas, save the file and close the editor. The game will resume with the altered data ready to be used (or abused, if you will)."

    Next time Nightlife will host a similar low-budget tournament, I'll ask you how to customize my car, lol
    BTW, what fun and original car would you suggest for this budget? Something old or non-japanese for example.
    And what is the best FF overall?
    Great video!

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I guess the Mercury Cougar '99 ticks most of those boxes; it's an American FF that gets over 500hp on a 100k budget. Most muscle cars are pretty cheap to buy and tune, but their handling isn't often great. The Shelby GT350 is pretty good though.
      I'd say the "best FF overall" is probably either the FTO GP Version R or the Civic VTi '93. Both are expensive to tune to 295hp but they're ridiculously fast, and can beat 591hp cars easily with super soft tyres, racing modifications and downforce. The Fiat Coupe and Mitsubishi Eclipse can be tuned up to over 350hp but they don't handle as well as the FTO and Civic IMO.

    • @Oualouidji
      @Oualouidji ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeaKanji the 99 Cougar have more than 500 hp? On the front wheels? Oomph that's huge! At least it can match some 4WD and RWD in the straights. I wonder how it goes on the corners...
      I was thinking about the GT350! in my memory it's not too expensive to buy, and not too heavy among muscle cars. I'm sure it's a decent RWD with the good settings. And it has lot more styles than any other Japanese RWD cars.

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OualouidjiYep indeed, GT2 doesn't model FF understeer properly so it handles decently even with that much power. Yeah, off the top of my head the GT350 had the best handling of the muscle cars. The older Corvettes were very quick but their handling wasn't great, and they had too much understeer with the ride height trick.
