As has already been said, I LOVE that you are real. You record your mistakes, explain them, redo them with what you have on hand ... have bobbins run out or get all wonky and make terrible stitches. And you go with the flow. Just fix whatever it is how you need to and move on. That's what is real and happens to all of us, so I very, very much appreciate that you don't cut that part out. Editing to make everything look "perfect" the first time can make us novices feel ... inadequate? Like we need more practice before attempting something? Like we've done something wrong? Not sure what I feel, but it's in there somewhere. How refreshing to see someone with the same issues we all have. Thanks again for that!
As to the length of the video, it could have been half if you'd have sped up all of the sewing bits, but then I thought ... wait. Those sped up videos for us novice folks go too fast and sometimes and we can't keep up without pausing or rewinding. Also, it rarely shows that stitches are sometimes not straight and other little tidbits that are helpful for us to not fuss so much. So, keep doing what you're doing!

Ohh my goodness! I think the contrast of smooth versus textured vinyl really adds something to your bag. I also know that you are not alone in charging forward to get to the finish ! Great bag and even greater of you to show the error and how you solved the conundrum.

    Hello Kassiah!
This is a really nice bag!
I see what you say about the binding the same way. Once it is sewn into a bag you can not longer see smaller and larger errors.
Can you please also show the backpack version - that interests me more than the crossbody version!??
Greetings from Germany - Monika -

wow beautiful kassiah, you maybe be able to rescue the other ones if you remove just the strap were you went wrong and gently heat the vinyl with a hairdryer and rub it ,it may close up the holes on the main body so you dont see them, also when clipping have the flat part of the clips so theyre on the flat part of the table makes them easier to remove , the curved side should face up, thank you for a great tutorial you make binding look easy

Also, LOVED how you showed your mistake -- if I had a dollar for every time I did that! I made a bunch of grocery bags recently for my family - I'm in VT and we don't have plastic anymore -- which is great -- but anyway -- I think five out of ten of them I did this same thing and I'm like, wait, why don't the handles line up -- I marked the line and everything -- yup, wrong side of the line :)

I’ve been gushing about my Japanese Book Drill Hand Punch for over 2-3 years in all the bag groups - it rocks aye! Then you can leave your rivet press set up with the dc rivet setter die and don’t have to change out all the time/buy a seperate hole punch die or use those clunky dial leather punches that never reach places or you can’t see where they’re positioned properly 🤗🤗🤗

Love your videos. I just made a bag with a vinyl 3/4” crossbody strap and the strap twisted up like a spiral. You sewed yours down one side, pivoted and up the other, which is what I did. Did mine twist because I did not use a walking foot? I used a Teflon foot. I did cut the strap across the width of the fabric.

For the zipper pocket facing, you could under stitch on the seam allowance only, which gives you a crisp line after you press and the other fabric won’t show around the zipper window.

Another question: I'm not adding a nameplate, but I will add a tag on the inside. At which point would you add that to the inside? (I'm having my initials embroidered on an outside panel. Making a saw blade carry case because I'm also a woodworker).

    • @SiahSwag

I would add it when you are sewing up the lining.

  • @aprildegele1510
    @aprildegele1510 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Question. I have a domestic machine and you mention, when adding your sides to your gusset, to keep your interfacing out of your seam allowance. I get that for the decoville, but what about the woven? Will it make any difference with the woven because that interfacing tends to be a lot thinner. I also use a jeans or leather needle and a walking foot.

    • @SiahSwag

Forgive all of the questions. I'm wondering why you don't just leave the binding as is, parting the center so it will cover the front and the back, and stitch at a 1/4 or 1/8 seam allowance to sew it all at the same time. Seems like it would take much less time and honestly, that's what the pre-folded binding is designed for. Yes, there could be an issue with catching the back, but if you go slow and use a seam allowance that is 1/4 in from the outside edge (so, if it's a half inch on either side as it's packaged, 1/4 seam allowance should be sufficient), doing it all at once would be a time-saver and elicit the same result, yes?
For instance: If you want a half inch on either side of the bound seam, why not just buy a 1 inch binding and wrap the center seam so that you have 1/2 inch on either side, and then sew at 1/4 inch or 3/8 if you want the stitching closer to the edge? Sure, a larger seam allowance would make it a little more difficult to catch both sides, but if it's already folded and pressed ... Seems like you did double the work and undid the purpose of the pre-made binding. But I'm just a novice, so I don't know anything really.
In the end, isn't that what you ended up doing anyway with two rows of stitching?

Does this take into account the 'pocket gape' mentioned in page 13 of the pattern?
    It doesn't seem to?

Woo-hoo! Thanks Siah, another one done! My mistake was getting lazy on seam allowances when doing the binding- when flipped I found all sorts of mistakes so did it again (at 3/8” where it’s supposed to be! Lol). I missed the gusset stabilizer in instructions so good thing I saw yours and went with decovil heavy.
