New York City is renowned for its diverse and delicious street food, offering everything from classic hot dogs to exotic crepes. Andrew and Nicola have previously enjoyed country-style BBQ and massive Tomahawk steaks, but this time, they're stepping into the world of street vendors and food carts. Will the iconic flavors of New York's street food leave a lasting impression on our British duo? Stay tuned as we explore the best of NYC's street food!
Billy's Hot Dog Cart is legendary, boasting 5-star reviews on both Google and Yelp. Serving Sabrett hot dogs boiled in water, Billy's cart is a must-visit for anyone craving an authentic New York City hot dog experience. His homemade red onions and perfect mustard add the finishing touch to this classic street food.
www.eileenscheesecake.com/ Eileen's Special Cheesecake is a family-run bakery that has been delighting cheesecake lovers for decades. Known for its light and creamy texture, Eileen's cheesecakes are made with the highest quality ingredients, ensuring every bite is pure bliss.
levainbakery.com Levain Bakery started with a passion for baking and a love for creating delicious treats. Their massive chocolate chip walnut cookie, initially created as an energy snack for triathletes, quickly became an iconic favorite. We couldn't resist trying their famous chocolate chip walnut cookie. Each bite was a delightful mix of gooey chocolate and crunchy walnuts, wrapped in a perfectly baked cookie. It was pure indulgence and a must-try for anyone visiting NYC.
t-swirlcrepe.com/ T-Swirl Crepes offers a unique twist on the traditional crepe, using a gluten-free rice flour batter to create a crispy, chewy layer that wraps around a variety of sweet and savory fillings.
Halal food carts are a ubiquitous part of NYC's culinary landscape, offering delicious and affordable Middle Eastern cuisine.

When I first moved to NYC I had been away from the region for a couple of years in Pittsburgh where everything is kind of in its own zone and sub-neighborhood. So on my first day of work I asked my new colleagues 'Where are the food places around here?' because in Pittsburgh everything was grouped together. My lovely colleague leaned over conspiratorially and in a stage whisper heard by everyone she said simply, "Outside, dear. We keep our restaurants and food carts outside here."
I still laugh at that because I grew up in the NYC suburbs and commuted to work here for over a decade, I just had been in Pittsburgh mode. And yes, she's absolutely right. When you want to find great food options, just go outside and wander a bit. You'll find several, day or night.

I have an idea. Have you both ever been to an American sport match? Like the Yankees for instance. You'd have a ball sampling all of the food there. Most of the vendors are regional and they have their own twist on classics like hot dogs, desserts and nachos. Just a thought :) Thanks for a great video, Andrew and Nicola. You're the best!

Getting one from a random street cart is something I crave on a regular basis. If you're still in the city, you guys should head down to Brighton Beach aka Little Odessa. It's an area full of Russian Jewish immigrants and the food there is just amazing. I've always lived in areas that have a large Jewish population. Though I'm not Jewish myself, Jewish cuisine is always my go to for some of the best comfort food. My favorite Halal truck is usually parked outside Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, like maybe just a block north of the hospital entrance on Fort Washginton. They have very good falafel sandwiches that I get with extra white sauce. Sometimes I have them add the hot red sauce, though it's pretty hot. A block south of the hospital and across the street is a Sabrett hot dog vendor. She's been there forever. And she does her dogs really well. If you're exiting the hospital there are a lot of good street food choices.

I’ve heard of a couple of street food places in New York. One is called the big gay ice cream truck (I’m not kidding it exists) and the papusa lady in queens. I’ve also heard that red hook in Brooklyn is a good spot by the soccer fields. The street food tends to vary from neighborhood to neighborhood. Flushing has a lot of street eats based around classic Chinese food not usually available in the states. Red hook is mostly Latin with Caribbean sometimes. It’s not all hot dogs, falafel, and pretzels. Try the Chinatown ice cream factory too. You also may like tasty noodle in Chinatown where the angle is. That whole angle was painted with murals and stuff to honor Chinatown’s past including Corky Lee who helped photograph most of what Chinatown was. Chinatown has a rough history but it’s a lot better now at least in some places.

I ordered Levain cookies at the height of the pandemic because it was one of the few places shipping. I thought their cookies are overly sweet and I've had cookies with an even better texture elsewhere. I'd prefer the Levain chocolate chip cookie if they used dark chocolate, less sugar, and if it was slightly more chewy in the center. Think they're wildly overrated. The Sabrett hot dog is amazing I agree. It's a true NY classic. The Halal food is sublime. I think the white sauce really sets it off. I don't know if it's yogurt on top. One Halal guy told me it was mayonnaise made more liquidy by adding vinegar. But I can't say that's universal. I don't know. I do like this channel. Good personalities. Good job.

Halal actually has a brick and mortar now though I’m not sure where but I do know it’s in manhattan. Same food just different setting. That cart has never left that corner by Rockefeller for eons and is there night and day. It’s what cabbies eat on breaks to fuel up and get people back on the road. Actually there’s a secret trick if you spot the line for halal simply use the other side as it’s reserved for cabbies and nobody cares. It’s a trick that nobody uses because they don’t know about it. That side is always empty anyway.
