  • In part 6 (of 6) of my Whittling the Travelling Gnome Tutorial I carve the moustache and add texture to the beard.

Thanks for making this series and sharing your art. Just watched all of them in a row and got inspired. My wife is collecting gnomes all over the house so hopefully I can surprise her with some carvings. Ty!

Thanks so much for all your videos, your instruction (both visual and verbal) is superb. As a new whittler/carver I've just finished my first gnome, which I'm really quite pleased with - prior to finding your channel I would never have imagined myself saying that without considerably more practice and experience. I'm looking forward to my next whittling project.

Thank you so much for posting the conclusion of this! I've been eagerly waiting to have the whole series before starting. I had been checking regularly, but somehow missed that you posted it a couple of days ago - I'm sure I checked, don't know why I didn't see it. Very excited to carve along with this now!

Thanks for the videos! I followed along and just finished. This is my first carving, and he looks... uh - ok. But I'm pleased for my first time. The pacing and the detail you provided was just right, I thought.

I’ve carved a bunch of gnomes based on your article in WCI but just discovered your TH-cam channel today. It was a eureka moment !! I always struggled a bit with arms and beard details. Your videos showed me exactly where I need to change. Thanks so much for posting these.
Now I need to get out into the shop and carve 😊

Thank you for posting this! My first attempt at carving, although it doesn’t look nearly as good as yours, I’m encouraged to keep at it and hone my skills.

Your a caver of fabulous detail, I carve small characters. Can’t wait to see what you do next.
Try taping a square where your camera shot is. I lost track of what you were doing a little you were off camera.
Thanks for sharing . Keep at it 👍👍

New to carving and I thought this video (all 6) was great!! Can you tell me where you got those stylus's to do your fine painting?

I get all my painting supplies from major hobby stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I do find that I like the really small fine point brushes in the models section more than what's in the aisle with the paints. I have a couple embossing tools that work well for small dots, those can be found at those stores as well.
