- The Yellowstone River is still high, but the creeks have lots of rocks to hunt! Join me and Kava as we head east to explore a gravel-filled creekbed to find incredible agatized/petrified wood, Montana agate, beautiful scenery and one really cool fossil! Montana in June is a green and beautiful place, and the rocks are every bit as lovely. It's rockhounding at its finest!

Be careful around the Yellowstone for the next little while, KatyDid! A bridge collapsed, dropping some train cars into the river and contaminating the water with hazardous materials. If you want to hunt the Yellowstone for now, best to do it upriver from the crash site between Reed Point and Columbus, in an area about an hour west of Billings.
Thanks - but the material that was spilled solidifies quickly in cool temps, and it's about 200 miles away - so even though the river flows this way, the material that leaked from the cars is likely not to make it very far. Thanks again for the concern!
Thank you for the fear post but further research shows there nothing to be worry about continue spreading fear , paranoia strikes deep into your life it will creep there a man over there , stop look what that sound

Hi Kate, just FYI in case someone didn't already chime in. The gray flat bubbly rock that you picked up is a pyrite/marcasite pseudomorph. I have a whole collection from that creek.

What a great spot!
It really was - great to be able to get out.
I wish we had agates in our creeks!send a few my way lol
Awesome finds💕.i love to see that petrofied/agatised wood.
Thank you! 😊
Supreme find
I was so excited - except about having to carry it. :D
Really nice finds Katy! I remember when hounding creeks, I would roughly categorize what I found as, agate, jasper, petrified wood, or not quite done cooking. Pet wood is always so amazing to me because it preserves the imprint of what was once a living thing!
Ha, your categories are funny! I love petrified wood for the same reason.
OMG!!! What an amazing day!!!
Yes it was! :)
That log! Katy! 😮 But all of them really. You find incredible stuff.
Thank you!
What an awesome place to hunt!
It was amazing.
Unbelievably awesome petrified wood, fossils and agates. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
I loved that leaf fossil!
Me too!
Love, love, love that agate you found early on...the one with the concentric circle patterns. It reminds me of eye agates in my stomping grounds on the eastern shore of lake superior. Really cool!
Eye agates are awesome.
Such a beautiful hunt. Beautiful colors! The log is the best. It would be a display piece for me.
I was so surprised!
Oh My Gosh, Kate!! I can’t believe you left that orbicular jasp-agate thing at 10:50! That was so cool! Love the giant log, too ❤️
Wow awesome petrified wood! You all always find cool stuff in Montana!
Thanks. :)
That "log" of petrified wood is gorgeous!!
Thank you!
Beautiful stuff. Makes my knees hurt just thinking how heavy your pack must be. I'd love it, tho. Congratulations on the big piece of wood.
Wow such a good haul today 😊
Thank you!! 😊
@@KatyDidRocks your welcome
I liked all the finds but I am most fond of the very unusual petrified wood shape at the 9 min time . How such an unusual shape piece was able to survive intact. Watching this video makes me look forward to the start of the Rockhounding season Thanks!
Me too! Glad you enjoyed it.
I like ❤ when you cut them open❤ Andy 🎉
Andy, I love to so that too - but with this one, I had so many finds, I decided it would just take too long,. :)
Nice finds. I love agatized wood. Some of my best pieces are made from it.
I love it too! Well, obviously. :D
6:12 so cool! Good eye! 🎉
Right! :)
Yeah I found a blue apatite. When I was digging in my back yard
That sounds amazing!
Like you always say 'so many beautiful rocks '...I can't argue with you there, my goodness you did find some beauties 👍💕💕💕💕
It was a wonderful day!
Hello Katy, trying to catch up on videos, nice to see you finding some great pieces. Keep Safe.
Thank you! 🤗
Great finds. That pet wood is wonderful. We use your book every time e we head east on the Yellowstone (maybe 2x a year, mostly we're in cen- tral). Would love to have your eyes to find what you do!
I'm glad you find it useful! :)
Wow a treat of fossils and agates such a lovely way to end my weekend in the company of Kate my guide and companion on a wonderful hunt I might of said before I love all fossilised woods
😊🥰🤗
Me too! Thanks, Fiona. :)
Oh my gosh, Kate. My back is having sympathy pains just watching this. Lol. One thing you can say about rockhounders....we are a tough breed of human. I don't blame you for hauling that log out. Probably at least 30 to 40 pounds as well as at least another 60 pounds on your back. Been there, done that, and loved every minute of it. Such a lovely log.
Thanks, Janice!
You are so blessed to live in God's country. I never seen coal laying on the ground like that.
It's spelled coal 😉
It really is interesting, isn't it!?
Beautiful agates, but it wad your day for petrified wood. That last piece was gigantic. Keep having fun and don't fall over because of your full bag. 😊
It really was, wasn't it? You should have seen me try to put the backpack back on after I took it off to dig up that log. :D
Hi friends. I have about 2000 gorgeous pieces of petrified wood. With bark, rainbow, green chromium, WHOLE trees, lots of agates, jasper and lots lots more. I am getting up in years. Like to see my beautiful treasures being displayed in many yards or houses
Hey, Nicole! That sounds amazing. I don't know if you are looking to sell or donate, but I am planning a "Heart for Rocks" auction in early May that will go to a camp that helps boost girls' interest in geology. If you want to donate a few pieces, that would be a great way to find them new homes. Contact me at katydidrocks@gmail.com!
I'll definitely have to show my Dad, we were out that way years ago
Awesome!
