@@jimthecarguy thanks for showing how a professional does it. Shouldn't you also be replacing receiver dryer and expansion valve to protect new compressor?
Could you make a video showing how to replace the Mode Actuator? I can see it behind the glove box, but I can not figure out how to get it out. The screws look impossible to get to.
Great Video as usual. Thanks. My clutch is the problem, but wondering if just changing the compressor should be OK, or is there that risk of the Honda Service Bulletin's "Black Death" meaning blocked lines, needing to replace everything? Anyone know?
What parts to you recommend replacing on a 2008 CRV along with the A/C Compressor? I've heard it's wise to replace the condenser and expansion valve, and of course the o-rings. Does it have a receiver/drier/accumulator to replace? What about the A/C lines?
Jimthecarguy there is definitely some level of blockage. Don’t know what happened, but compressor won’t even engage now. Had a shop perform diagnostics on it, Freon levels appear to be correct, fans are working, etc. Ordered a kit with everything except hoses. Have someone who will install it for the cost of supplies, because they own me a favor. It holds pressure, so I doubt the hoses have any issues.
Question: I just had my AC unit fully recharged (refrigerant topped up), but was told that it needs a new compressor. Does the unit need to be recharged again after installing. new compressor?
How long did this take you from beginning to end? Asking because I was on road trip out of state when 06 CRV AC stopped cooling, local Honda Dealership replaced compressor and charged me for 5 hours labor and 18 units of 82300101AC to charge it, I assume 18 oz? I'm back in Texas now, just 3 days later, in 97-100 degree heat and having to run AC full blast but still not "cold". I called the dealership and service manager told me "go to any Honda dealership, it's covered".....that's when I discovered that they used Auto Zone AC compressor kit so Honda Dealership in my city says it's not warrantied. Total cost $1934 and it's not cooling below 57 degrees....idk what to do...maxed out my only credit card getting it fixed.
@@GrannyBass A standard test after recharging A/C is to measure temperature at duct inside car. Our Mahle machine suggests it should measure 46 degrees at idle in 100 degree shop.
Hi Jim I have a question for you that is not car related do you know anything about 36 volt electric golf carts my brother has one my sister gut on it an backed it up an then it stopped moving the selenoiid is good but it will not move?
Also, another reason would be that smoke comes out from your serpentine belt if the clutch is not spinning. That happened to me on my 2002 CRV. Ended up installing a dummy pulley to trick the car it has an AC compressor there. I was not ready to shell out $300 at O'Reilly's for one. I dont mind using natures AC.....Wind lol
just fyi. removing the compressor from the bottom will not work on a 2006 honda crv. the frame cross member is in the way. fastest way to remove compressor, is to remove condenser and radiator.
Excellent explanatory video.
I own a CR-V too.
These are videos that enhance our knowledge.
Congratulations for the video and success.

Excellent job, great description!!!
Hey Jim great video
Where in NJ are you located? How much do you charge to recharge the A/C system? Thanks

Awesome video Jim, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it

I will try!

You don't have to replace all those parts unless the compressor failed internally. That can cause a blockage . What happened to the compressor?

Great video. Does the 3rd gen have a drier? Does the expansion valve have to be replaced as a matter of course always too?
Thank you sir
Hi Jim - how many hours would I pay someone to perform this repair? Thx so much!
It calls for 2.4 hours I believe.
Great job sir...

Yes, the A/C has to be discharged to remove compressor.

Blocked condenser or poor flowing fans/condenser can also impact efficiency of A/c.
it's only going to cool approx. 30 degrees than outside temp, right?

Great instructional video...for the job that you did for the video, what would someone expect to pay for that in any given shop?

How did u know right away, that the problem was the compressor?
Actually it was making noise by the clutch

Do you have contact information for your shop?
I don't have the clearance on my 2005 CRV, what is the best way for removal?
I think for that year you have to drop the subframe
