    "I am 18, am I too old"
    UGH I'm starting and I'm almost 30.... The problem when you get older is that you fear more to fall (gods, I feel so petrified when I lose balanceeee). Also your body is fully formed so you can't easily get more flexible.
    Maybe next year I'll try and take lessons but for now it's a bit expensive and ... too late xD
    I'm not even sure I'll be able to land any jump someday...
    Should I exercise off-ice like, stretching and all?

  • @maisiepeters7257

    my mindset for competing is that I don't have any jumps in my program that I can't do. my coach wouldn't have put anything in my program that I wasn't capable of. I do my program a million times before I compete, and I land these jumps any day. there is no reason for me to fall or pop any of these jumps. I am capable of everything in this program.
    anyways that is the little pep talk that I give myself before I compete, hope that helps!

  • @elizabethmorvan7041
    @elizabethmorvan7041 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My answer
    1. Yes because I love it because I get to do my hair and makeup and I never get stressed witch I love
    2. I also do a trampoline class for fun and going to hang out with friends
    3. I started wen I was 4
    4. My pre juvenile or my star 6
    5. Adea is good, Jackson and Ridels but, Ridels also make your feet hurt

  • @kileykittycat

    One thing that help me before I compete is right before I get on the ice I walk through my program in my head like 3 times and try to visualize doing my jumps ,spins and foot work it helps me a lot and clams me down a little to

    • @feiyangjia
      @feiyangjia 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It's possible to start at any age, but I'm not sure you will be able to make it to big events. But it is possible for you to make it to regionals and there are tons of adult competitions around. Don't let your age stop you and as long as you love skating, you can do anything!

    One tip for not getting to nervous before you compeat: every time you say "oh jeez I'm super nervous", catch yourself and say "no, I'm not nervous, I'm excited!!" Say it even if you're totally terrified. It tricks your mind into thinking your excited. (It helps, promise 😉)Another thing is that I always just talk to my coach about literally anything after the warm up.(Movies, Starbucks, TV shows, etc). Not to stray my mind from compeating, it's just to let me literally forget about my nerves. Hope this helps!! Lysm!!❤️❤️⛸️⛸️

    OH MY GOSH MY PHONE KEEPS DYING AT THE RINK TOO!!!!

  • @rinniepiex
    @rinniepiex 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not an athlete LOL but I am a theater actor and both of us perform in front of audiences/coaches/directors so my best advice is when you're nervous, it means you're ready. I keep telling myself that and reminding myself I put the work in and listening to music and sort of connecting to the song to feel that emotional drive while performing (in your case skating!) I love doing hype exercises so doing shakedowns help and playing games too and in general warming up and getting you focused helps me not be scared as well! I'm jelly of you, I wish I did ice skating!

  • @HaveanIcedaymx
    @HaveanIcedaymx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, I am kind of new to figure skating, but I've been a singer and performer for a good number of years, and I think some of those pre-performing abilities can transfer well into preparing for a skating competition.
    First of, arrive, early and always be prepared for the tiny emergencies... have a repair kit for your dress, extra hairspray and those kinds of things. Many of which I'm sure you do already.
    I try to meditate for a little bit, it always helps a ton. Get your head clear, stay away from your cell phone, get a little alone space. Close your eyes and really try to make your mind calm. In complete silence. For 5 minutes or so.
    After that, concentrate on your program: what does the music say or mean to me? What would I like to communicate? Is this a program that requires me to be a certain character? If so, get into the character's skin: what is the motivation, the story and details of this character?
    (This one's kind of prior to competition)
    If your program has lyrics, or is related to a show or movie, have you watched it? Or do you know the story? Do you know what the words in the song mean? Have you thought about what they mean to you?
    Some dancers have another technique, they imagine themselves in kind of a huge bubble or imagine they have a huge wall between them and the audience, but I find this a lot more difficult to do. So, I focus on the music/interpretation part as much as I can.
    Hope this helps a bit!

    So I'm 15 and I really want to start skating, I'm quite flexible because I did cheer and gymnastics for over 6 years but I really want to start skating, the only problem is the nearest rink is a bit over 2 hours away like all year round because I live in ireland☹️️ I'm fully willing to get the bus up at the weekends but my question is am I too old? I really want to do it and do you've any tips?? Thanks 😊

      @caramella4452 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      No no no! You are NOT too old! Nobody is EVER too old for figure skating. Work hard and be dedicated you can and will be successful in anything, not just figure skating. You can even work your way up to triples if you practice enough and truly love the sport! Sure you might not get to a Yulia Lipnitskaya level but there's so much more to skating! I strongly encourage you to start. May the best of luck be with you!

    Try to relax during competitions. If you are relaxed you will do better. If you fall it's not a big deal some top level champions have fallen during competitions. They still finished their program and some got very good marks overall in spite of the fall. Just focus and go for it. You are very talented and you know you have worked hard too.

    Your phone uses a lithium polymer battery. If battery temperature escapes the nominal range, which is usually 0C to 50C. Below or above this range cab cause charge leakage and long term damage to the cell.

      On the money bit, try to find a job with flexible hours and good pay and on your mom, help pay for lessons as well. If you can drive yourself or have public transport where you live that helps too!

    My phone dies ALL the time at the rink. Especially if I take it onto the ice to film! I think it's just the cold but it can be pretty annoying :/

  • @thatstea6329
    @thatstea6329 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's because the cold screws with the battery so it makes the battery drain

    Okay, so I am a 14 year old hockey player (I'm a girl btw) and I have always wanted to figure skate but I think it is too late and I don't think that I would be graceful enough. Also, I think that my parents wouldn't take me seriously if I asked, people think I'm really rough because i play hockey and I'm kind of aggressive on the ice but I just love skating and think figure skating is beautiful

    I'm very flexible. And I love to skate. But I am 13 years old and don't have lessons. I'm planning on getting lessons in September and going skating a LOT this summer. Is it too late for me to start skating and to start doing competitions?

    • @amalia3785

      Not at all! I'm 12 and I just started, and I have been giving it my all. Practice makes perfect really applies here. Do as much as possible, and you'll eventually be much better.

    My phone dies at the rink all the time. I also have a question. So, I’m having trouble with my waltz jump because my left leg is not quite strong enough to get a good take off almost constantly. I don’t think that I could switch my take off to my right leg now. What should I do?
