I have to admit I was skeptical about this build when I first saw it. I was also skeptical about how the LED’s would look on a mostly natural build. But the final result was breathtaking. I was dumbfounded and extraordinarily impressed. The fact that it actually looked magical took the realism to a whole new level. Excellent build.

It’s amazing to see the process of something with this much detail being made real! Great editing keep that up. It’s always nice when it’s ready to assemble and the anticipation of finishing it after all of the hard work and then the real is putting it to the test against other objects and see how well it holds up and it really held up! Pretty epic all around in my opinion! Thanks for sharing another make it real and spending the time needed to make it look accurate. From the way I saw you holding it it looked like it was at least like 40 pounds of weight maybe more that you had to swing around just to test it. Though I’m really wanting to see the bond car finished as time allows it but I’m sure you guys are pretty busy so I understand completely. I look forward to the next make it real! You’ve come so far and the make it real projects just seem to be getting more and more epic and amazing! You guys I think inspire so many people watching than you will ever know! Breaking the obsidian sure looked fun! Fun fact napped obsidian is one of the sharpest materials known to man, with edges getting down to single atoms in thickness!

Obsidian Scalpels were used for a while in Eye surgery, but they had the risk of leaving micro splinters, causing complications in healing so they fell out of favour for newer materials.

The obsidian blades, while extremely sharp were also very brittle and struggled to defeat metal armor worn by Europeans. Against unarmored opponents and animals it was very effective. The macuahuitl came in a variety of styles and spacing of the blades. The one requirement to become an elite Aztec warrior was to capture 20 men on the battlefield, so the broad flat wooden part was used for non-lethal subjugation. Sometimes the blades were left intentionally short and widely spaced apart so to deliver multiple nonlethal cuts, in order to wound but not kill. While these were pretty brutal weapons for the time period, steel swords still had a number of advantages including keeping a sharp edge and having a thrusting point that is better at defeating armor.

In the Nahuatl language the Macuahuitl is not said "Mocka wittle" its more like "mock waw wheat". the TL sound is not a TUL sounds, its made by rolling your tongue backwards a bit and placing the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Then you push air past your tongue like attempting to make a regular T "TUH" sound. and the air goes around your tongue making the proper TL sound
I love how you really focused on the individual manufacturing methods and achieving a high-quality finish with this video, and it was nice to see materials other than metal for once! I know that polycarbonate is really nice to work with, but that piece of Che Chen looked absolutely amazing and was definitely the star of this project. Oh my God I just saw the obsidian and I'm afraid. I've made arrowheads with it before, had to carve it under a few inches of water. It's so hard to keep a blade of it sharp tho. Keeps chipping apart! But I heard doctors have made scalpel out of them before, hopefully we can learn more about how to accurately produce stable blades! Edit: omg that wood shop is gorgeous. My grandfather's did a lot of woodworking that warehouse is so impressive 😮
Absolutely amazing; the only thing I would have liked to see changed or done differently is sanding the edges of the polycarbonate pieces to give the LEDs a diffused look and using a denser LED strip. It's kind of harsh right now, but otherwise it's absolutely incredible what y'all consistently manage to accomplish.
When they started cutting out plastic for the faces, I started thinking it might turn out meh, but they could probably salvage it with some paint. Then I saw the obsidian "knapping" and of placing the pieces in resin, and felt they had probably failed, but decided to withhold my judgement til I could see the final product. Now, at 12:29 I think it is safe to say they did indeed fail. The faces (and some other details) should look yellowish/golden, but instead look transparent/grey/plastic. The serrated obsidian 'teeth' should be 8 solid pieces (somehow) knapped to have spiky teeth, but are instead haphazardly shrapnel essentially glued together. The hilt should also be golden coloured, but looks like sheet metal and plastic. Overall this would have looked way better if they did a paint-pass on all plastic components, and some metal. As for the obsidian, I have no clue how they should go about knapping them to shape (obsidian doesn't behave like metal or wood or such, as it is a type of glass. The model kinda struck me as impossible when they first showed it), but whatever they did wasn't it. They did a good job with the wood, and the metal in the blade. And the eye looks both neat and accurate (maybe a bit too good, the model's eye strike me as more jank than what they managed :p). Still, I would consider this a failure (even if they painted stuff, so long as the impossible obsidian doesn't look the same, it isn't the same..).

It's awesome to see some ladies in your videos. I have been watching your videos for years with my daughters (13 and 4). They always get really excited to see girls doing the stuff that they are interested in that they thought only boys could do. I've always said that girls can do anything that boys can do, but its nice when they can see it for themselves.

The fancy glove is just to prevent your rest fingers from registering as screen contacts. You could do that same with a lot of types of gloves, just find one that doesn't register screen touches and cut off the thumb, index and middle fingers. . . OF THE GLOVE! Whew.
This is why Netflix is so successful. They know the right people to throw money at. And, yeah, Obsidian is no joke. It's also known as volcanic glass and tends to have EXTREMELY sharp edges when broken. It's this quality that made it attractive for use in weapons before they even knew that metals existed. This thing would mess up your day something awful even without the modern metal reinforcement.

Hacksmith talks about using 3/4 steel to make it tuff because of the damage done when testing then uses velcro to attach the obsidian wtf

When they started cutting out plastic for the faces, I started thinking it might turn out meh, but they could probably salvage it with some paint. Then I saw the obsidian "knapping" and of placing the pieces in resin, and felt they had probably failed, but decided to withhold my judgement til I could see the final product. Now, at 12:29 I think it is safe to say they did indeed fail.
The faces (and some other details) should look yellowish/golden, but instead look transparent/grey/plastic.
The serrated obsidian 'teeth' should be 8 solid pieces (somehow) knapped to have spiky teeth, but are instead haphazardly shrapnel essentially glued together.
The hilt should also be golden coloured, but looks like sheet metal and plastic.
Overall this would have looked way better if they did a paint-pass on all plastic components, and some metal. As for the obsidian, I have no clue how they should go about knapping them to shape (obsidian doesn't behave like metal or wood or such, as it is a type of glass. The model kinda struck me as impossible when they first showed it), but whatever they did wasn't it.
They did a good job with the wood, and the metal in the blade. And the eye looks both neat and accurate (maybe a bit too good, the model's eye strike me as more jank than what they managed :p). Still, I would consider this a failure (even if they painted stuff, so long as the impossible obsidian doesn't look the same, it isn't the same..).

@@hacksmith They gave pretty constructive criticism going over what they didn’t like and what they liked in a pretty fair way. That’s the point of a comment section no? For a platform so big why did you feel the need to reply if you didn’t have anything proper to say in response? Goes both ways.
Glad to see you expand your material selections! Keep working on your material adaptation skills, maybe one day you could make your own fancy weapon from scratch and come up with a cool idea!
It's awesome to see some ladies in your videos. I have been watching your videos for years with my daughters (13 and 4). They always get really excited to see girls doing the stuff that they are interested in that they thought only boys could do. I've always said that girls can do anything that boys can do, but its nice when they can see it for themselves.

3:20 Yay, finally something on this channel that I know how to do! Though I would have just done that in Illustrator, and I don't have the fancy glove.
The fancy glove is just to prevent your rest fingers from registering as screen contacts. You could do that same with a lot of types of gloves, just find one that doesn't register screen touches and cut off the thumb, index and middle fingers.

This is why Netflix is so successful. They know the right people to throw money at. And, yeah, Obsidian is no joke. It's also known as volcanic glass and tends to have EXTREMELY sharp edges when broken. It's this quality that made it attractive for use in weapons before they even knew that metals existed. This thing would mess up your day something awful even without the modern metal reinforcement.
These projects keep getting better, love that you do more artsy projects too!
