mustard actually gets rid of cramps pretty instantly. i used to keep a couple packets in my snowboard jacket in case my back leg cramped up on a powder day.
Chara actually got in trouble for that, because Pepsi was an NHL sponsor. He said he liked Coke, they told him to not get caught drinking one on camera again.
I feel like they should get mad at the camera guy for that?? A player should be able to eat/drink what they want, just don't zoom in on them if it's gonna be a problem
Most guys dummy a banana or two between intermission and maybe a cookie, good way to bring up blood sugar and reduce lactic acid. Several players now drink coke, dr pepper, or cola's in between periods too. When I played Jr. I used to eat a couple oreos.
The team would do pickle juice shots before a meet back when I swam competitively. I thought it was just a weird tradition until someone explained it to me lol
Back when I played aaa my team once got scored on because both D went to change when the puck was at the far blue line and the goalie who was supposed to be opening the door was slamming a bag of Lays. He had one hand on the door trying to open it and the other pouring chips into his mouth😂we were up by 4 in the third so it was ok
The mustard, bananas, and pickle juice all work great for muscle cramps. And the absolute best is apple cider vinegar. One spoonful and horrific cramps go away instantly. It’s amazing. The key to them all is potassium, magnesium, and calcium.
@@sarahprince2412 I'm completely sold on the apple cider vinegar. It absolutely works. I've successfully used it and once my wife was in complete agony with cramps in her feet and toes. She could not move and had debilitating pain. After a quick Google search on what works, she took a spoonful of apple cider vinegar and the cramps were gone in less than 10 seconds. I wasn't surprised as much as to what worked, but just how fast it worked. It was like an IV.
it really depends. Some guys with Diabetes or other problems will have their blood sugar and stuff checked in between periods and plan accordingly. But yeah mostly eating can cause minor cramping and stuff due to digestion already so liquid or some form of liquid has become the primary and preferred delivery system - think glucose packs etc.
Youre focused on the game not your hunger. Players will have routines that usually make it so by game time they have no issues, Bathroom, food, equipment, that kind of thing is considered a bit unprofessional. Like if you were working and started eating in the middle of your shift in stead of at lunch. Most the food here was eaten to get rid of cramps like the Bananas, mustard, and pickle juice. The coke honestly can't be much worse than Gatorade but that one idk about.
It does look odd just because it doesn't seem like a sports food, but considering all the benefits, yeah it's a very good choice. Still does look weird though.
that is pretty normal in hockey and other sports that they consume some salty/sweet drinks or snacks becouse it recovers fast losed energy and helps to focus when you get little snack middle game.
Endurance cyclists and other insane athletes use all of these. It's mostly a matter of convenience of carrying and consuming. Quick sugars (coke) and salts (pickle juice) make nothing but sense.
forgive me for not know the guys name at 1:23 (havent watched much hockey since my Thrashers left Atlanta), but he's eating one of those Honey Stinger Waffles. I just discovered them last week and they're freaking amazing
Delta Highlights i just mean like my experience with. I’ve had many friends/ teammates eat during the game or in between periods and seen other players do it. It happens more often than recorded and than people think
Fun fact: Wayne Gretzky would have 4 hot dogs and a diet coke before hockey games.
Really
wow really how come wayne gretzky can eat 4 hot dogs and diet coke?
Thats salty af

to eat or rub on the area?
Hood to know
similarly with pickle juice, I drink it during a game or whatever and those cramps disappear
i’m assuming you mean yellow mustard but do you know if brown mustard works too? i cramp up a lot but i can’t stand yellow mustard
I came here to make that comment right away but you beat me by an hour
0:14 I'm assuming that's a 2 litre bottle Chara's drinking out of
That's a 500ml bottle. Have you seen a 2L bottle before?
Ok captain obvious lol
This comment made me literally laugh out loud! Funny as fuck!
Actually it is 2.25L The largest one.
That ain’t a two liter bro lmfaoooo

Makar lookin like a little kid with those rosy cheeks eating that cookie 😂

During early morning games my goalie had his donut sitting in cup holder at the bench, between the periods he came to eat ... I wish I filmed that

Sounds like Pepsi is mad that Coke is better
@@Fenrirmaster30 Dunnu about that. Coke is pretty disgusting :P.
They told him that he would have to remove the label if he wanted to drink Coke on the bench.
@@gerble36 Acting like both of them aren’t just sugary dogshit lmao. Coke is better tho.
0:10 I remember watching Kopi drink that and asking my hubby “is his stomach _that_ messed up?!” 🤣

Yeah I heard that when I was watching the game against the Pens on ESPN+ on Friday.
Makes sense he’s doing so grest
Wait so what happens if he doesn't finish the Pepsi, does he just crack open a Dr. Pepper? 😂
We know Kuznetsov loves Coke.
Oh yeah🥴

I’m surprised kessel wasn’t on here eating a hot dog 😂
Hot Dogs. Plural.
🤣🤣🤣

I knew a tennis pro that would drink flat coke
Bananas are really good for cramps my dad needs a banana a day and he'd never gets cramps throughout the day he used to
Pickle Juice is my weird drink of choice. Great for any exercise and hangovers.
The team would do pickle juice shots before a meet back when I swam competitively. I thought it was just a weird tradition until someone explained it to me lol
they drink it against cramps, it's very effective
Pickle juice/pickles were what I had when I went on benders when I was an alcoholic. It restores them electrolytes.
I use pickle juice when I get hemorrhoids
This is oddly entertaining. Great vid!
Seguin - "Hey Mister, did you see that pass I just made? I want chocolate pweeze"
The "Always Sunny" music at the end was a pretty perfect fit lol
Mustard is good for fighting cramps!
Also Gatorade and pickle juice
And bananas
Just about the only thing it’s good for.
bananas and mustard help reduce lactic acid and prevent cramps from what I know, mustard is actually pretty popular.
The pickle juice is too! The vinegar in mustard and pickle juice is what does it!
These vids make my day bro
Makar is so cute eating that cookie.🍪🍪🍪🍪
At least there isn't a video MacKinnon eating chickpeas..yuk

Bingo. It's not weird to see people eat or drink those things. I don't get why people would get disgusted with that when it will actually HELP you.

Before clicking on this video I just knew the clip of Radulov eating bananas was going to be here. Such a vibe.
the mustard packs make me wince everytime
I’ve always wondered why people don’t eat food more often while on the bench
when your stomach has to digest food it takes a lot of energy that could otherwise be used to play better.
They don't want to get logy

Pickle juice, bananas and mustard relieve cramps very quick. The coke and cookies are for energy boosts
When you spend that many calories, eating these things is not only okay, but necessary.
during 80's In former Czechoslovak top ice-hockey league there was a goalkeeper that was eating wafer biscuits during the match.
Mustard is for cramps
Little did we know Chara was actually drinking a 2 liter of coke
hahahaha good one
Damn I didn't know whole mustard packets were good
they're good for fighting cramps!
He was using it as a smelling salts replacement
I'm not sure what is worse, mustard packet or pickle juice
Definetely mustard.
pickle juice
It works tho😂
Larmer and Savard used to smoke on the stairs to the locker room from the Blackhawks bench between shifts at old Chicago stadium.
Guy Lafleur and Mike Bossy were big smokers too

A little bit of sugar to finish the 3rd. Probly a smart move IMO.
If I could I’d order myself those good arena fries. Those hit the spot every time

chara needing that coke mid game
Pickle Juice is great though. Plenty of athletes have downed some because of electrolytes and fighting cramping.
Can you do the best overtime goal?
0:19 Chara so big, that the 1,5 l Coke looks small af
I heard mustard can help with certain things but it’s still odd

The reason why they drink pickle juice and mustard is because it gets rid of cramps
The stuff Makar is eating is so gas. They're called stingers and they're little energy snacks. The look like waffles.
I think the clip where chara drinking a soda is more funny than the avs player eating a cookie.
Its an energy waffle if I'm not mistaken. I used to eat them all the time before heading onto the ice.

Yeah
mustard is good for fighting cramps!
You betcha
Of course chara drinks pop on the bench
