Came here to see how’s it’s done 🤓painted my car and added some flake and I regretted it after .I didn’t know you had to sand it down to get get all the rough flake down then clear coat it again now I’m happy I can do it the right way thanks 🙏
Since watching your videos I've started painting anything i can and when i feel i have it right, I will do the black base silver marble effect and then candy blue. Yep its a big ask but you make it sound possible and the tests i've done so far are pretty good. So thanks for the videos, you rock.
Heya Gunman, I’m really enjoying these videos! I’ve taken your advice and I’ve got out into the shed to paint some shit! First project was a guitar I’m making. Painted in hi opacity white from Concept Paints. Then covered in silver ghost flake, some pearl gold graphics then clear. Waiting now for a couple of weeks to sand the whole shebang before I flowcoat. Really happy so far, laughed at your comments about the panels looking like you’d thrown a handful of sand on them. That’s exactly what I said!!! Cheers 👍🏼
I love spraying large metal flakes. Sometimes I mix them with interclear and spray over jet black and other times I mix them with kandy paint and spray over metallic bases. The combinations are endless and with my bench rifle stocks I make and paint it is fun to come up with colors for a customer so he can go to a match with a paint job no other bench rifle there will have
Great video and that flake looks amazing on maroon and have taken and used fine line and use the flake to add a painted pinstripe border with heavy flake.Makes it look like a silver fine line border❤️👍
Sifon feed gun is lot better than a gravity feed as well as putting a couple marbles in the sifon feed gun for stirring every pass or so to keep the flake suspended other wise it it start to settle at the bottom of the cup I've done a lot of flake jobs on bikes and cars .. But your doing a good job with the gravity feed gun I've seen some where the flake settled in the gun and can out as blotchy patches were there was more flake in one spot than another.. I done a few with just a light dusting so there in not as much flake just the odd one here and there type thing just to add a little sparkle to the paint job so the looking at it from about 2 meters back it has a nice touch off the odd color red, green, etc. Rainbow flakes I've even used on my outdoor patio table on top of gold flake. Myself I use the biggest flake and don't sand through when sanding and u use a block wet sanding becouse with the rubber block I use it as a squeeze and pull the water aside to see where I'm at but then there are usually a few different colors and I don't like to have edge's between the colors ... Would be nice to show your test panels in the sunlight for the real effect like the speed boats sparkling.
Other nice work from you with that metal flakes :-) i can say every time i watch your videos i learn something new :-) Just keep going with your nice work because i never get tired to watch your videos :-)
That black flake panel is bloody beautiful! I've been debating doing the bottom bit of my car in black; now I think I may have to see about getting some of that DNA flake! I recently lost about half the vision in my right eye, so I'm not sure if it's me or if the camera is just having trouble picking up the subtlety of the silver panel, but it didn't seem to "pop" quite as much as the black did. You'd mentioned that some of the clearcoats you've used have had a yellow tint to them. I've found in the past--at least with rattle cans--that you can use that to your advantage. I've intentionally tinted clearcoats with yellow to bring out a lot more depth when finishing certain colors; particularly green metallics that are a bit more on the warm side. I've also done a lightly blue-tinted clearcoat over both black and dark metallic gray, which created quite a fascinating result. A friend of mine called it "Electric Gunmetal." You couldn't see the blue tint unless you were really looking for it, but the way the basecoat reflected was wild. :D
Hello S P R A Y M A N I subscribed. I've been learning how to spray in college. I enjoy watching your show because its packed with information. So, I learn from you too now. I'll have to watch from the beginning and take notes of the equipment used, techniques, and products, and know-how tips WOW. You motivate me Good DAY
Nice one mate, I've never been a fan of flakes personally but some people like the effect I guess! Would be interesting to do maybe one or two test panels and see how the go! Cheers for the vid!
Thanks Gunman ! I like metal flake, and there have been a few new options introduced since I last got flakey ! I had acceptable results with the older techniques. I will absolutely use intercoat clear in next project ! : )
It just seems to speed up the process as the intercoat dries so quick, plus I guess there'd be less film build but I guess end results would be similar.
Excellent videos mate,I'm just starting out an find your videos very helpful. Anychance you have any vids helping people work out what gun/guns we need an you recommend for biginners
Love the gunman videos. He is a true master in his art. Love the fact he is not afraid to admit his limitations and teaches us from his mistakes. Perfection every time is nearly impossible. Your videos have really helped me understand car paint. As in prime base and clears, and how to apply them properly. I know you have a lot of videos and I'm just catching up but could you put some of your gun settings in your videos. I'm fairly familiar now but would have help me a lot if I had a better idea on air and material feed
I put an stainless steel 3/8" nut in my gravity fed cup and swirl with my wrist to make sure I keep it agitated. I also have a SHARPE stirring cup for a conventional suction fed.
great video.....i have a car that has inferno red paint that has flake in it but its an old paint job factory....i plan on redoing it can i buy the same paint and just ad more flake to it..?..the wife wants more flake.and then put the clear over it..?..and what color flake should i use..?..
they make bottom air feed cups ..used them in the 80's to keep the pearls that just came out mixed up to stop blotching when fogging 3 stage paints were new then and expensive
Hi Gunman, brilliant videos, many thanks for taking so much trouble! Maybe a completely stupid question but: at around the 10 minute mark in the video, you mentioned that you lay one coat of clear down, wait 10 minutes, and then spray the next coat. What do you do with the gun in the meantime? Do you just leave the mixed up paint in the gun and start spraying again, or do you empty the cup, clean the nozzle with thinners?
been watching you for a while from Minneapolis Minnesota USA, you paint like i weld... i can fix a panel on a car or a bridge... so now i want to learn how to finish the job.. still trying to figure your language out...i.e. 2 part paint, does this mean paint and hardener? you rock dude!
Ever tried 2 coats of clear, then 2 coats of flake with clear then another 2 coats of clear. Takes awhile but you can get good results without the need of flowcoating
Thanks so much for the vid . I want to paint my van with a black base and hologram flakes but there is a huge price difference between the DNA flakes and unbranded ones . I know it may be difficult for you to say but do you think that for an amateur gunman like myself its worth paying premium ? Cheers ...
This is why a siphon feed gun is better for flakes...because with an HVLP , every time you rest between coats, the flakes settle into the gun and can't be stirred back up into the cup. So every time you resume spraying, your first trigger pull is loaded with more flake than the following strokes have. You would be better off pointing the gun away from the work and pulling the trigger to clear the gun and then resuming immediately. BTW, use ball bearings in a siphon feed gun for flakes...just like cans of spray paint have.
Time and money is the only thing stopping me man, between a full time job and that it's hard to get around to doing a trip but definitely on the cards.
wanted to say i always liked your techno beat intros on all your videos, you ever go to SEMA tradeshow in las vegas and visit all the paint or refinish display booths? PPG displays always the best display of the entire show. last year wthey did a mardi gras theme that was beyond awesome.
Big fan of your work , I had a question I have a Warwick 881 brand new. When spraying mattalic paint do you use a filter in the cup? Or no because it would catch the flakes?
Hello thank you for your video. Please excuse if this is a stupid question but I have a silver car and was wondering do i still need to do all the prep if I want the base colour to be silver like sanding and everything or can I spray the flake right onto the silver car? Thanks in advance for your advice should you wish to reply.
What are the advantages of flowcoating instead of wetsanding and buffing the whole car after the paint has cured? Is he just so good with a gun that it is quicker for him to sand the texture down and shoot a smooth final pass?
Honestly that's a big part of it. Also get a better depth of gloss. For me it's a lot quicker and easier to just flow coat it, it may be easier to load it up with clear the first time and polish for other people.
Hello. Beautiful result ! I'm new to this, can someone tell my what equipment I need for painting like this ? Is it only the gun and compressor? And all the paint of course. Or do I need some additional equipment?
I bought this metal flakes in a spray can an i sprayed it on white colour and it looks great. I dont like it on black colour because for me it always looks slighly dirty.
+John Smith I have a video called sun and surf painting see that one for dry application of flakes as far as airbrushing goes I'm not very good at it but I can recommend a DVD by David power or Daniel power called the power series they are great I'm not sure if he's on TH-cam but I have his DVD and it's very informative.
Thanks for sharing great videos. I was given an LVLP gun set and I'm having some trouble figuring them out.. Could you share any advice on when and how to use them? I was told they're good for clear coat. Is there a special formula for mixing coatings. Using your dna panel painting video I painted my street vendor cart,it worked well.Thanks.
Nice job. Were you doing more clear coat there at the end? I had a bit of trouble understanding what you were doing. After those last coats, do you sand or buff again? Thanks!
Question my wife is painting my bike soon, but we don’t know nothing about painting so and lessons you’d like to give as in what kind of paint, gun, etc.....
I am mostly a frame tech and body specialist. With your help I'm blowing the minds of the paint techs. with my paint jobs with your help
Came here to see how’s it’s done 🤓painted my car and added some flake and I regretted it after .I didn’t know you had to sand it down to get get all the rough flake down then clear coat it again now I’m happy I can do it the right way thanks 🙏
I love his accent so much!!! Not to mention he is a really good painter.
Always nice to see a pro at work !
You make it look so easy. But when you do it as much as you do, it is easy. Thanks
New-style
Since watching your videos I've started painting anything i can and when i feel i have it right, I will do the black base silver marble effect and then candy blue. Yep its a big ask but you make it sound possible and the tests i've done so far are pretty good. So thanks for the videos, you rock.
Be great if you could show your results with candy blue, am sure it must look awsome
Great demo on the use of DNA
I own a black car, I'd give my right arm for my paint work to be accented with that metallic look. Great Vid.

No wonder they call you The Gunman. You make that clear look like glass!
Hi from the UK Loving your tips I'm learning a lot thanks

Is it best to shoot flake over an already clear coat?
Awesome mate.. My girlfriend wants her wheels like that. Another job for me.

I'm gonna try to apply this method when painting my interior trims
Using that same process and incorporating a water drop would look killer on a surfboard. Even if it was just wide stripes.
+FerrariDMC I'm not sure how much of an impact the extra weight of all the clear would have on performance bit apart from that absolutely agree.
I put an stainless steel 3/8" nut in my gravity fed cup and swirl with my wrist to make sure I keep it agitated.
I also have a SHARPE stirring cup for a conventional suction fed.
15:29 "Get out there and paint some shit"
Love it!
Thank budy.. For the big idea

As always gunny great work.
Awsome,Thanks for that and looking forward in doing a candy blue marble effect on my Mitsubishi L200 ute
Thanks for sharing your expertise The Gunman
The black one has the dramatic effect.
Very good and fun and beautiful
they make bottom air feed cups ..used them in the 80's to keep the pearls that just came out mixed up to stop blotching when fogging 3 stage paints were new then and expensive

farrrr outtttttt your talented!!!!
Question: as long as it looks Smith with water over it after sanding, is it critical that you have sanded all of it so there is no shiny clear left?
Paint won't stick to shiny paint so yes, it's important
been watching you for a while from Minneapolis Minnesota USA, you paint like i weld... i can fix a panel on a car or a bridge... so now i want to learn how to finish the job.. still trying to figure your language out...i.e. 2 part paint, does this mean paint and hardener? you rock dude!

Looks like orange peel. ? Will further coats be smoother. Do you have a vertical demo.
nice work once again!
Thanks for watching.
Wow those are beautiful! Want to come to the states and paint my Chevelle?
Yes I do, never been to the USA
Let's get it done then! I live in Arizona. I'm sure it's close to down under.
Time and money is the only thing stopping me man, between a full time job and that it's hard to get around to doing a trip but definitely on the cards.
well keep me posted. Arizona would love to have you. We can go to the street races too.
king0cans lets go to bridges and run
How long did you let the flaked clear coat cure before regular clearing
what kind of tips for spraying metal flake 200 micron thank you in advance.
can i use 1.3mm nozzle
in
200 micro metal flakes ?
THANK YOU
Hey can i spray metallic out side on a still warm morning? Then flake
do you know where a regular Joe could get these test panels? struggling to find them in the UK
I'm pretty sure spraygunsdirect.co.uk have them
How many metal flakes go into a liter of varnish?
that was SLICK!!!! 👍👍
Can you put flack on top of candy ? I’m going to use red candy and I want black flakes. Cheers phil.

you got some amazing skills thankyou for the share
what a great video stunning finish
Can I mix desired flake with black base coat and then clear over the top?
will these paints work for a flexible fiberglass boat? or will it crack
Big fan of your work , I had a question I have a Warwick 881 brand new. When spraying mattalic paint do you use a filter in the cup? Or no because it would catch the flakes?
Watch the first two minutes, where he discusses filtration.

@@TheGunmanChannel thanks! It seems like a big time saver if your good enough at spraying. I'll stick with my buffer!
beautiful job
How much time did you wait betwenn the layers of flakes and your final coats of clear ? sticky tacky ... ?
Hello. Beautiful result !
I'm new to this, can someone tell my what equipment I need for painting like this ? Is it only the gun and compressor? And all the paint of course. Or do I need some additional equipment?
Patience and a load of elbow grease.
Hi gunmen, I have the GPI gun, is a 1.4 tip on this model suitable for using to lacquer with.?
Nice vid. I hope that in the future you'll do a review for that ANI gun.
Sure will
NICE JOB THANKS FOR THE DEMO!
I bought this metal flakes in a spray can an i sprayed it on white colour and it looks great. I dont like it on black colour because for me it always looks slighly dirty.
hey man sorry if this is a stupid question . as a beginner, what is easiest way to learn airbrush metal flake application? dry application? thanks
The Gunman
thanks bro , much apreciated
So the metallic flake mixed with intercoat is basically a metallic flake clear coat of the base coat?
How do you keep your gun so clean? 👍
Thanx for showing how to do it.
No problems, there are a few variations to technique that some people do but this method works fine as you saw.
hello very nice work, what is the size of the nozzle of the gun you use when applying glitter? 1, 1.4, ou 1.7 ? Thanks
how do you think those would look over a bright red base coat?
i have good paint can i just put metal flake with clear onto it
so why did you go back over with clear after sanding. and not wet sand and buff it out?
Is there a texture?
Nice job. Were you doing more clear coat there at the end? I had a bit of trouble understanding what you were doing. After those last coats, do you sand or buff again? Thanks!
Dude! Nice ninja turtle tattoos!👍🏻
haha yeah I love it :-)
what is the round equipment u using to roughing the surface ?
Can you get DNA here in the US?
have you ever tested out apollo turbine spray setup? would love if you can do a test on that.
Never heard of them
Question my wife is painting my bike soon, but we don’t know nothing about painting so and lessons you’d like to give as in what kind of paint, gun, etc.....
Whats is the reducer that you put with the flakes mixing?
what tip sizes do you recomend for flakes
where can i buy that metal flakes in india ???
Great videos. Can I ask a question: if I use Createx colours and Candy colours is it possible to finish a job with a regular 2k clear coat?
What is the cost you have to paint one piece?
sanding and varnishing with p500 not the brands?
