Taken from their Wikipedia page: "Unlike most animation studios, Kyoto Animation's animators are salaried employees rather than freelance workers. Therefore, Kyoto Animation animators are able to focus more on the quality of each frame rather than on meeting frame production quotas."
KyoAni will be back, stronger and better than ever. RIP to all of those amazing animators that lost their lives. The work they've done will never be forgotten. Prayers up for their families and everyone involved.
A lot of the key people passed away in the arson... and all of next year's works are burnt since they still use traditional paper style animation drawings.
Dude. I really pray for those who died and the families of the victims. They made inspiring animations that really helped me and many people mature and step up of depression. Pray for KyoAni.
they clearly couldn't steal any of his ideas, as all their works were either dating sims adaptations or light novel adaptations. Even if he had some involvement it must have been minor, as story was based fully on source material. Story, character designs, music must of stuff was already part of original games.
Idc for the arsonist. I hate to say this but KyoAni building looks prime for inferno to happen regardless. Small and limited windows. Limiting outside vision and in and out access to building in case of emergency. Top that with tons of papers for easy fuel.. it’s a disaster waiting to lit up. I hope other studios can learn from this and install proper equipment to make workplace a lot safer. Also rip for the poor souls. Hopefully KyoAni can rise from this ashes and become greater. I know they can and they will.
guess we have to wait until they air the full story of the incident. i really thought he was an employee so i will be scratching that off and wait for more details on this.

Violet Evergarden, especially the episode where she wrote birthday letters because the mom of the child was passing away... the episode fucking moved me so hard. And ofc a silent voice, such a great movie!
@@iampie1989 for me it was more of there were a few scenes I wanted to see animated. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few others that felt this way also. loved the movie nonetheless.
I actually hated Violet Evergarden but I’ll definitely say nobody deserves to be killed for making one small mistake. People are able to learn from their mistakes but nobody should be punished like this. This is wrong.
On one hand I think this is a very weeb(nothing wrong being a weeb) comment and it's in the right place under a cultural point of view and kinda reminds me of escapism, on the other hand I FEEL YOU because I've to watch many animes from this studio and the animations in this video really hooked me.
Michele Pio Curci Careful what you’re saying, especially with that term “escapism”. You’ll attract Evangelion haters. But I acknowledge what you’re saying. That’s it a bad timing to do anime references to simplify the tragedy.
@@whathell6t thank you very much for the clarity and the composure of your comment, I appreciate it. I guess I shouldn't even have typed "and kinda reminds me of escapism" because it isn't even something I'm sure about and that's a non-essential formation for the meaning of my comment.
they had really great anime, K-On!, A Silent Voice, Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, Haruhi Suzumiya, Violet Evergarden, Lucky Star, Free!, Kyoukai no Kanaka, ect. those were my favorites at least

@@Nitrorcman189 man I absolutely understand the feelings any human being would get in front of such a tragedy, though I don't agree at all with you. About death penalty and why it's useles and potentially(or even more than potentially ) counter-productive, I suggest you to read "Dei delitti e delle pene" by Cesare Beccaria.
@@evanbutler9813 Actually... Capital Punishment is completely legal there and is used in cases involving mass murders, murders via arson and even just regular old murder. Execution is carried out via a good ol' fashioned noose. Also, the term psychopath refers to someone who has absolutely no understanding of human emotion, is completely void of empathy and is unable to feel those emotions as a byproduct of trauma to the brain as a baby or an underdeveloped brain while in the womb. If he's anything remotely close to that, I think it would be more accurate to describe him as a socipath as one of the 3 key elements in the sociopathic triad is starting fires. A sociopath lacks a conscience but isn't completely unable to feel or recognize emotions. They simply don't care that they exist. They're emotionally retarded, not emotionally void. Anyways, even if he isn't executed on 34 counts of homicide, Japan still has life-in-prison as a punishment. 34 times life... He'll never get out, and if anyone in there has children on the outside who like anime, or they themselves like anime, I'd hope he gets the American paedophile treatment. Should check out the criminal statistics between the US and Japan. It's mind-boggling how we can even call ourselves a civilized society by comparison.
Violet Evergarden probably helped me get in touch with my emotions again. It had been almost 6 years since I had last cried. Violet Evergarden was the first thing that had let me cry again.
I had put Violet Evergarden off so i could watch the movie version mostly fresh. Guess it's not coming as soon as 2020 now is it? My best option is to revisit the anime again, really hope this is not their last masterpiece (imo).
Kyoani, made a lot of emotional anime series Clannad, Kanon, Air. They were very touching. even Haruhi Suzumiya (despite being mostly comedy series) held many emotional momments.
I had depression for most of my high school life but k-on was what made me believe in positivity and friendships again it made me feel hope Thank you kyoani for giving me hope
I have watched almost all the anime from KyoAni, and it helps me to escape the things going on in real life. A silent voice helped me deal with the bullying I faced years ago, which still affects me today. It gives me hope that one day I'll find people who will stick with me and understand me....and become my friends.... I guess that sounds kinda stupid, huh?
That is gonna hurt the studio as well, losing talented artists and other personnel, they only had ~130 employees. RIP Artists that contributed to these amazing pieces of work.
@@itzfusionplex4266 I just stated the fact that a large portion of the company died. Where did I say I was only sad about the cartoons. I respect the fact that people died, but how does it lead to the conclusion that I did not care about the lives of the people? The employees rely on the studio for their livelihood, this event impacts all the other people in the studio as well.
I cannot agree more. The themes in Silent Voice resonated with me and still do. The animation was beautiful and brought the world to life. I was hooked in the first scene of the film, and I will never forget Silent Voice. It's kinda embarrassing to say, but it resonated so well with me that I made my home screen a silent voice wallpaper. I hope nothing like this ever happens again because these people work to bring such inspiring pieces of art to the world.
God I absolutely agree. A silent voice was such an amazing story and all the characters are so human. Just the story being based around deeper things like suicide and bullying in our generation (especially in japan like the video said) is worth so much and honestly helps an amazing amount with these things.
The world isnt getting worse...its always been like this, its just now that we know what happens around the world with technology we see how cruel it actually is smh.
It didn’t really hit me until I watched a video of the Violet Evergarden animation process, one of my favourite anime, and realised the insanely high chance that the person drawing burned to death. I instantly started crying.
Years now it's kinda like a way of delivering a letter with feelings Mostly people on early era like many years ago to 18th to or 19th century kinda do that
A Silent Voice is an adaptation from manga same as Violet Evergarden from LN , any decent anime company can make it as good as KyoAni does. Well, director, animators, and etc. played a huge part in this anime to hook us in.
@@lachancla4566 Noooo they couldnt. The truth is most anime companies are super lazy and do the bare minimum to animate a show in order to make a huge profit. Kyoani is one of the like 10 good studios that actually care about what they are creating.

incredible video, kyo ani didn't get me into anime, kyo ani made me love anime got me through some dark days when it was hard to keep going this tragedy is a major loss to the industry and fans of eastern animation everywhere if the studio closes down after this the loss is going to be immeasurable, so many lives lost they were people that put their heart and soul into making people smile and it permeated through their work they will be sorely missed.
When I first found out about A Silent Voice, I was completely taken aback. As a person who has worn hearing aids all her life (and gotten bullied for it here and there), I couldn't believe that there was finally some representation for people with hearing loss in the media. Finally someone to relate to. I was also delighted with the fact that the animators accurately presented sign language and captured the beauty of it. I believe that A Silent Voice captivates the struggles that come with having hearing loss (and just being bullied in general) very well. This movie deeply resonated with me, and I'm grateful for the awareness it has brought to the deaf/hard of hearing community. The fact that some of the people who brought this astonishing work of art to life aren't around anymore just hurts so much.

The Good meaningful thing for them is, they helped other people’s lives making material that helps them cope with their problems.
I'd say my favorite is definitely A Silent Voice It has such a good message in it but not only that, I relate to some of the characters I mean life is tough for everyone and even I've thought about killing myself before But the movie shows that no matter who you are or what you've done there are still people in the world who care about you And that message helped me a lot. So, that's A Silent Voice is my favorite anime from Kyoto Animations
Free! Is not only my favorite anime from Kyoto but in general, it taught me a lot about friendship and what makes me appreciate my friends and also got me into my swim club in my high school
I couldn’t watch it. It’s weird, when I see others that are the same as me, it makes my suicidal thoughts increase. That’s why I just try and watch fantasy anime to forget everything
Violet evergarden is truly my favorite Kyoto masterpiece. You cannot help but sympathize with the protagonist as her journey unfolds, a journey with an ultimate humanistic purpose
I just want to thank all the employees and staff for their hard work and dedication. We really loved every single creation they brought to life. Their creations were on a completely different level. It's extremely noticable how much effort and work they put in. We will dearly miss those who passed on and we sincerely hope for the recovery to all those injured and affected. Well, my favourite anime from KyoAni was dragon maid. It had kinda original plot, it was drawn nice, and it was sometimes quite funny. And I really enjoyed watching it!
A silent voice related to me a lot Like the main character I feel extremely depressed and always regret being alive knowing the terrible things I’ve done to people. I was always picked on by my family and I never had a good outlet to express my emotions properly and still don’t causing most of my stress, anxiety, depression, and just crappy attitude towards people. I hope that I’ll be able to get that happy ending that A Silent Voice did and I’m incredibly sad that kyoto studios had to go through this
2nd anime to make me cry first one was plastic memories, that anime punched me in the gut and strangled me... ( well not literally but ya know that pain in your throat just before your about to cry and sometimes in your lower stomach area... yea that’s how it felt ) any other sad anime I should watch?
Yen x It’s definitely one of the best anime movies out there. Heck, I’d even say it’s better than Your Name. I appreciate how it dealt with mental health and bullying, which can help others talk about it more especially those who’ve dealt with the same things. It’s not only a love story, it’s also realistic and relatable.
CLANNAD was the very first anime I've ever watched. And helped me through my part of my depression and anxiety through highschool. It also brought my younger brother and I together. Could say the same about Beyond the Boundary and college. I literally woke up to the news this morning and I feel sick.
i watched hibike euphonium around grade 6, when band was mandatory in our school. while i had always been interested in music, hibike was definitely one of the factors that showed me how to appreciate orchestral music. since then, music has become my second personality trait. i started and finished rcm piano up to level 10, i picked up the double bass, alto and tenor sax, and trombone just to name a few. i can not begin to emphasize how much music has meant to me ever since i got into high school. from the hours i’ve dedicated to playing piano to all my friends i’ve met in band and the connections that i’ll cherish for literally the rest of my life and i’ll forever reminisce on all the band trip and performances we’ve had. This year, i had to quit concert band because my IB schedule won’t allow it. I was re-watching some episodes and watching kumiko’s sister cry over quitting band really stuck a chord with me. i have no idea what i did music for either, i’m not talented enough to pursue it as a career and i’m not sure if i’ll have much time for it as school work increases. All i know is i really enjoy it and i don’t want to let go of it.
My favorite KyoAni anime is Clannad, this anime really opened my eyes to reality, to the importance of family and friends and that live is full of tragic and bad situations and we should accept that and try to make out something positive and good from those situations. Hope KyoAni heals from this, my condolences to the victims, their families, to the whole KyoAni team and the people of kyoto.

They actually use JSL (Japanese sign language) in the movie, not ASL so the signs don't mean the same thing in each language. It's great that you're learning some sign language though! Any form of sign is so underrated and underrepresented because it's seen as a "useless language" (many have told me that it is when I've told them I'm learning it.) I hope you continue to learn more! :D
@Takafumi's fan The Japanese are mostly Pagan/Shinto or Buddhist, so your prayers from your god won't even help. Don't think their spirits and gods would even accept a prayer from another god.

Kyoto did such a beautiful job with Silent voice. I had read the manga before the movie came out so I knew when all the heart tugging moment would be, but Kyoto did such a fantastic job with the art, directing, and music that to me every moment hit harder than the manga ever could. I loved every single moment, so much so that it ended up being the first hard copy of an anime that I ever bought. Each time I watch it it just seems to get better, and I still have yet to make it through the final scene without teering up. I truly hope that the souls of all those who fell victim to this tragedy can rest easy knowing what a huge impact their work made on people like us, and the world in general.
Yeah, Hyouka is an awesome anime I've ever watched. The best anime series from KyoAni that is still ruining my heart to resist the sadness is Violet Evergarden. And if you ask me what is the best of all the time without mentioning the genre, series, stuff like that, Koe no Katachi will be number one for me. I don't watch Kyoanime's anime that much but when I do, I can feel every single complementation that has been complemented for every single episode they make.
I only recently started watching some of their amazing work then come to find out this happened.. The stories and messages they left me will NEVER be forgotten… Thank you Kyoto, may your souls Rest In Peace. ❤️
A silent voice by far my most favorite “movie” of all time. and it’s not just for the wonderful direction and cinematography. it’s very open and relatable to my future as a high school teacher. Reminds to watch my class for subtle hints and acts of bullying before it either gets out of hand or is too late. It also warms my heart as a simple man, to sit watch characters develop in a very natural way even for an anime.
*It's official!* As of 11:00am JST on 1/25/2024, Shinji Aoba's been sentenced to *_death._* In Japan, those who are sentenced to death are not informed of their date of execution until *the morning of it.*
I have never been a fan of anime but my 23 year old disabled son lives on anime, this will upset him a massive amount if he finds out. I haven't got the heart to tell him :'( RIP to all, such a great loss.
He will probably find out soon. KyoAni's anime this season will be cancelled, understandably. Future works too, as some animation directors unfortunately didn't make it out. One of the most popular animes this season, Fire Force, has also announced that they will postpone the show for one week in light of this arson attack. It is quite a difficult issue to ignore in the anime community.
@@zuiwoshachang I understand this, I know i will have to break it to him but hopefully i can try and shine a nice light on it somehow with how you have all pulled together with just giving, i know there is going to be a lot tears over it, he is VERY sensitive :(
Clannad, Beyond the boundary, A silent voice. Clannad spoke to me in some many different ways. It reminded me to enjoy everything in life. Appreciate your time with your friends and family. That even a story about a normal life can still be amazing. That not everything has to be a fantasy. That just have a group of friends and trying to build a club is a beautiful tale. It also showed me that a family bond is strong even if it falls apart. I love KyoAni so much for sharing these beautiful stories with me. They brought so much joy in my life and I want to help them heal.
I started watching anime just only because of Maid Dragon.......... If not Maid Dragon, I would never run into anime fanbase and all my present friends are from it...
Nexi Nexi it was one of my first animes from KyoAni, but it definitely wasn’t my favourite or one of them because of the overwhelming amount of fanservice in it. Kanna or Elma were probably some of the only reasons I kept watching.
I am completely new to this whole story. I didn't know of the tragedy that happened.. but I have long been a fan of Clannad, not knowing who the studio was until now. I continue to watch all their stories and now as I get older I begin to understand the morals they teach. Still continuing this journey and experiencing many more stories by them
@@jerielsistrunk1990 they probably will. But it could take quiet a while becouse they have to recover from this first. (Aaaand you just reminded me that I need to catch up xD I'm still at season 2!)
Yeah, Free! Was my favourite. As much as I want a new season, I want KyoAni to recover as much as they can before- or if they start making the new season.
My favorite one is violet evergarden the plot is so good and the animation is perfect I love everything about it . Is the first anime that made me cry. I relate so much with violet in like a personal level . The way that she try to understand the feelings and emotions is incredible specially the meaning of love . All the story is a big journey of emotions for me and that's why I appreciate the effort in it . I feel so bad for what happened because that studio didn't just give us the best quality of anime and a animation , is the story the and the way that we relate to it , the memories, the things that we learned . All of that is why this tragedy hurts so much but I know they will recover from it 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Is that why Kyoto animations animes are always so good? Because they treat their animators as humans
Taken from their Wikipedia page:
"Unlike most animation studios, Kyoto Animation's animators are salaried employees rather than freelance workers. Therefore, Kyoto Animation animators are able to focus more on the quality of each frame rather than on meeting frame production quotas."
Take a hint Disney!!!
And that increases the anime quality which increases the financial outcome, great...

It’s definitely one of the best anime movies out there.
CLANNAD was one of my first as well. I have a lot of nostalgia for it.

First anime that made me cry in a while but it wasn't my favorite from them it was the best one made.

Lucky star was my real favorite due to the humor of Otaku culture.

i watched hibike euphonium around grade 6, when band was mandatory in our school. while i had always been interested in music, hibike was definitely one of the factors that showed me how to appreciate orchestral music. since then, music has become my second personality trait. i started and finished rcm piano up to level 10, i picked up the double bass, alto and tenor sax, and trombone just to name a few. i can not begin to emphasize how much music has meant to me ever since i got into high school. from the hours i’ve dedicated to playing piano to all my friends i’ve met in band and the connections that i’ll cherish for literally the rest of my life and i’ll forever reminisce on all the band trip and performances we’ve had.
Sorry but is Hibike Euphonium is from KyoAni too?

violet evergarden is probably my absolute favorite from kyoani
it's a bittersweet story of a soldier finding purpose and understanding love through writing letters, something that feels genuine just from writing away their feelings

@@vulcanmemes9770 False I cried almost every episode cause not just the animation was some of the best I've seen from an anime that wasn't a movie but a show but also the character development of each character especially violet in this anime. For me it was a silent voice, it had been the first anime or even movie that I had watch that shook me to the core in that way, it made me think on myself, my friends, my family, and us humans as a whole, this movie is truly a work of art. From the animation to the music and the characters. I still get chills whenever the music from the end when shoe starts crying after all the crosses fall. It reminded me of why I love anime so much, and I think it's such a shame that some people missed it because of Your name (even tho that movie was good too I'll have to admit it didn't have quite the same impact on me) each and every time I watch this movie I pick up new subtle details and meanings to some scenes, it always manage to make me cry, and still remains as beautiful. It's one of those movies I wish I could forget and rewatch for the first time all over again. What happened at Kyoto Animation was a tragedy, and I 'send' my most sincere condolences to the families of the victims (even tho I'm a little late). I hop you're all doing better. @@jerielsistrunk1990 they probably will. But it could take quiet a while becouse they have to recover from this first. (Aaaand you just reminded me that I need to catch up xD I'm still at season 2!)
@@aniflowers1998 lol did u watch season 3?? I already watched all the seasons lmao. I will still rewatch them tho when they announce the 4th season.
Yeah, Free! Was my favourite. As much as I want a new season, I want KyoAni to recover as much as they can before- or if they start making the new season.
It’s really unfortunate n’ sad that this happened 😕
My favorite one is violet evergarden the plot is so good and the animation is perfect I love everything about it . Is the first anime that made me cry. I relate so much with violet in like a personal level . The way that she try to understand the feelings and emotions is incredible specially the meaning of love . All the story is a big journey of emotions for me and that's why I appreciate the effort in it . I feel so bad for what happened because that studio didn't just give us the best quality of anime and a animation , is the story the and the way that we relate to it , the memories, the things that we learned . All of that is why this tragedy hurts so much but I know they will recover from it 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
yeah that one was freaking amazing!!!
Violet evergarden, Clannad and A silent voice made me cry. They have such good stories that tug at my heartstrings!!! 😭😭😭❤️
luisa_mitzuki idk it’s kinda boring to me but I’ll try to get into it even if I watch 5mins at a time
@@ak.2394 It is somewhat boring for the first half or so. After that it's an emotional rollercoaster.
Agreed
