They wrongly depict Jesus' initial arrest as being indoors, alone and led out of the building to outside, while Peter lurked in an outside side courtyard area, then they jump to him being in the courtyard trying to keep warm at a fire pit where most of the denials apparently happened. Then suddenly Jesus is back, on the upper floor promenade walkway that lines the courtyard (that wasn't there previously), and catches Peter's eye after his third denial. Also it's funny that they leave out the entire context of Peter's behavior and why he did what he did. Because had they depicted Jesus arrest properly as it is in the Bible, it would have been in the garden, and Peter would've slashed one of the arresters ears off. Jesus healed/restored it, and told Peter not to turn to violence in this matter. (They could've easily censored/summarized this part by just showing Peter being defensive of Jesus and perhaps saying that the arrester got hurt and Jesus healed them and admonished Peter for the attack). Okay, with this in mind of course Peter was fearful. Him being associated with Jesus was probably more to do with his attack on the arrester at this point. Sure, Jesus heal him (so no harm no foul, so long as the arrester didn't say anything), but because of his association, the attack might have been brought up regardless, and he would've been punished for that alone (I'd imagine it would be like attacking a cop who was arresting one's friend). Peter's denial was more about separating his closeness to Jesus as far as his association/loyality/willingness to defend (violently) him. Like looking back it's more like Peter was like "Sure, I followed him around and listened to his stuff, but I didn't know him personally. I was a fan... not a friend."- which of course was a lie. Anyway, the cartoon tries badly to make it seem like it was him celebrating his classmate's birthday by attempting to eat a cupcake, then failing to explain himself was the sin- when actuality if they wanted to really bring up any sinning in this scenario, it was him taking the cupcake without asking for permission to do so (thus stealing; as he wasn't initially part of the party- and therefore not supposed to take from something that didn't belong to him {the cupcakes belonging to the the party members which at the time he wasn't in}). However, the birthday boy catches him in his 'sin', and is kind enough to forgive him and give him the permission to take and eat the cupcake. So the lesson could have been about false guilt, or about the lingering effects that being caught in sin and forgiven for said sin has. (IE: Still feeling guilty about the sin even though you've been forgiven). This would have been a much better use of the scenario given.
What cracks me up is that the Bible mentions multiple times that God loves celebrations and music and dance. So.... having birthdays doesnt disrespect him. He takes delight in our joy and celebration of life.
@@Minabeanmachine Yep! Not to be too preachy, but here is a verse that says so. Philippians 4:4-7 TPT Be cheerful with joyous celebration in every season of life. Let your joy overflow! And let gentleness be seen in every relationship, for our Lord is ever near.

When I turned 6 or 7 my class sang happy birthday to me and I started crying and feeling guilty, a day that should have been happy for me will forever be a sad memory. All because of this destructive cult.
When I was a kid, I had a friend who was a jehovah witness… when Christmas time came around the classroom was coloring pictures of snowmen, drinking hot chocolate and eating candy canes. My friend screamed in terror and bawled with tears in intensity for an hour hidden in the corner of the room until the teacher consulted him. He said it was against his religion, that Christmas was from the devil. I’ll never forget that day.
The thing that frustrates me about this is that it’s a good video. The animation is smooth, the musical score is emotive, and I legitimately felt sympathy for Peter as he struggled between his desire to proclaim his faith and his fear of being arrested or killed. It’s a pity that such a legitimately good video is used to traumatise children by implying that if they eat a birthday cupcake then God will be angry and they’ll need to apologise to Him for it.
I think the real reason JWs don't celebrate birthdays or holidays is because secretly they don't want to spend the extra money on their kids. I heard some non JW parents won't celebrate their kids' birthdays because you're going to turn a year older anyway, so why reward you for something you didn't have to work hard at to achieve? But they probably still let their kids go to other kid's birthday parties.
They fucking brought gifts to and celebrated Jesus' first birthday, the day of his birth, that one background kid isn't lost in the sauce, the script writers are.
yeah no. The Zoroastrian priests, or magi didnt' find Jesus til he was almost 2 years old. They weren't bringing him birthday gifts. They were not Christian or followers of the religion. They came to worship the proclaimed king of the Jews. This is the definition of birthday party.
Only one of the four gospels mentions the rich men and the gold, frankincense and myrrh, and the other three don't, so it probably didn't happen, and Jesus didn't actually receive gifts on his birthday. Instead of exalting himself, he humbled himself by inviting shepherds tto visit him in a stable.

@mrcoto4so you're young right? Yeah no, you probably have bad parents. The whole religion preys on children who have a very closed off world view. You've never seen the inner relationships of a non-JW family before, you've only seen JW family relationships so to you it is the norm. I don't want to shatter your world view, but that religion is very very abusive and cult like.
I wouldn't blame the parents. They're just as much of a victim as the child. The only people we should be blaming are the head honchos- The Watchtower.
As a Christian, I’m appalled that they say the Bible says to not eat cupcakes, a blatant lie. I hope everyone that has been indoctrinated by Watchtower realizes the lies
It’s like they think during The Last Supper, Jesus went “oh no, tsk tsk, you ate a cupcake today, John? Too bad, now you can’t have communion”. That’s how ridiculous it is.
It’s not about the cupcakes themselves, but about participating in a birthday celebration by eating said cupcake or cake or any treat that’s served as part of the celebration. I was raised a Jehovah’s Witness and it was brutal not being able to participate in anything.
What saddens me most, and I think you'll agree, is that they don't see God as the heavenly Father who loves us, forgives our faults (and when I say faults I mean real sins like hatred or selfishness, not eating a cupcake) and wants to help us move forward in life with His empathy. They don't see Jesus as their savior who sacrificed himself for the sins of mankind; you have to be blameless by Watchtower standards to "earn" their salvation. Watchtower uses the image of God to compel followers to do whatever the leaders want on pain of "divine punishment".
And those people to whom Peter denied Jesus had the same American accent even though canonically Peter had a different accent from them, which is what gave him away. I wonder why this detail was omitted in the cartoon.

There was also this kid whose all family were jw, she was isolated in every little school party, but my mom always had a slice of pizza or a piece of cake for her.

A lot of us Christians celebrate Christmas as the birth of christ. It's simply not true that there was no celebration of Jesus in a manger. Here in the US, there are some churches that set up nativity scenes, many families and friends who exchange gifts to each other, and donate money to charity so that families who are poor could be blessed with a meaningful holiday to spend with each other.

If I were to rewrite this entire cartoon; it would be this. The family is preparing cupcakes for their daughter’s first birthday. The brother, no more than five, eats all of them despite the family telling him their saving it for the afternoon when the rest of the relatives arrive. When they discover this they kindly ask him if he ate it. He lies three times, and the parents, certain he did it, shrug their shoulders and tell him, “ok, if we find out you lied, you’ll be staying in your room for the party tonight.” The boy spends the rest of the day bothered by his conscience, and in the end admits what he did. His parents forgive what he did, as commanded by God. So to make up for it, the bother helps his parents bake another batch before the relatives arrive.
As a Christian, I did. And it takes a certain Chris Rice song to get it back in line with how I actually feel about God and life in general, almost every time.

I am a Christian but even my heavily traditional church recognizes the extra rules found in many denominations that have little to no reason biblically. What is really interesting is how Pagan Traditions are handled. It is like the Christmas Tree. Pagans decorated their home with plants over winter. When they converted to Christianity they did not have to remove the olants from their homes because their was nothing sinful about the act itself. Just because a tradition has a connotation to something doesn't mean it is bad in the here and now. What matters is what is on your heart. Not what was on people's hearts thousands of years ago.
Now tell that to all the people that criticize Christians for celebrating Christmas, all because the date and timing originated from a Pagan holiday. Like, no crap, we already know that! At first I thought it was a little pathetic how Caleb was so torn up about ALMOST eating a cupcake, but considering how Jehovah's judgment is predicated on punishing thought crimes (aka 'reading hearts') plus his history of spontaneously invoking the death penalty for single offenses, it actually makes sense. Why would anyone want to be friends with such a overly-sensitive, inhumane god like that?
It would've made more sense if his attitude was about the guilt feelings that remain after being forgiven. His real sin was stealing, not celebrating. The Birthday boy forgave him, allowing him to take the cupcake. "It's okay, you can have it." - this is clear language to show that the kid was aware that Caleb was sneaking/stealing a cupcake (likely he had a vague awareness at least at some the rules Caleb has followed in the past), and was like "I know you were trying to steal, but I know that you want a cupcake, because cupcakes are tasty treats and we don't often get cupcakes to eat... I want you not miss out", sort of friendly outreach. The kid was probably trying to be his friend. Also the others overwhelmed him, so it was no wonder he choked (considering he seems rather shy/introverted).

Marriage was divinely instituted by God. It's not a celebration putting individuals on a pedestal for existing. It's a day where couples take time to reflect on the joyfulness of that event and on their resolve to work for success as a couple. In a world where over 50% of marriages fail due to not keeping God in a three fold cord, wedding anniversaries honor God as the sole reason they work. I’m a free grace Christian I believe most Protestant or work based. Repenting of your sins is work based heresy, Jesus paid the price. Protestants like to say, Jesus paid the price, but then turn around and say repent of your sins. Please brother find the truth.
Now look here boy, acknowledging the error of your ways and petitioning for forgiveness in no way constitutes salvation by works, and even if it did the debate of the veracity of sola fides is still quite undecided between the big three branches. So calling a Protestant heretical over relying to much on works is a no go, as they are already in the more faith based side of the spectrum. Also what does the Lord’s Prayer say? Forgive us our debts. Sounds like repentance to me.
@@swyjix i’m not against acknowledging your errors. I’m against saying that acknowledging your errors is a to be saved because Jesus paid the price. you don’t have to petition for forgiveness. You are already forgiven.

The friend in adulthood took a thorough thorough look at the Bible, couldn't find anything to support not celebrating birthdays and said fuck it, I do birthdays now. Her church excluded her and her first husband left. Over celebrating a birthday. But she's much much happier now.

This is why as kids raised as witnesses we had to hold everything inside. Our parents were only going to tell us some Bible stories or start spouting scriptures at us instead of simply listening and talking to us. I used to just retreat inside.

As a Christian, I keep getting recommended this series of videos but had always put off watching one because I was expecting it to veer off into unadultered ridicule of religion at large and am just kind of burned out from seeing so much of that online. One of my best friends and one of the “best” people I know was raised JW. She said on their birthdays they got a plastic bag of toys and treats with no preamble. Her mom seemed at once intense and also a little loosey goosey or did certain things to circumvent their beliefs and practices without devastating Jehovah. But definitely no celebration no acknowledgment. My friend was conditioned but not a believer (at this time she was around 22). She had woken up shortly before that, thank GOD. I helped her do a lot of processing and deconstructing (as I also had to do this as an evangelical fundamentalist Christian). And I am honored I got to help her with that. She couldn’t wait to do all the things she wasn’t allowed to growing up for no good reason. We worked together in a hospital cafeteria and she wanted to do a gift exchange around Christmas during our lunch break. So we sat in the sunroom and exchanged (awesome) personalized gifts celebrating who we were (knowing each other very well) and I brought some decorations. The joy I was able to finally bring her that is available to almost everyone else in some form or another but she was denied was just… it was one of the best moments of my life. 🎉🎄🎂🎁🎊😊🥰 (Just FYI that was like 8 years ago and she is now professionally a human rights and global health advocate 😁😊💗)
I had a college friend who was JW. I asked her when her birthday was, she said she didn't celebrate it as it's against her religion. I was confused but brushed it off since i really didn't know anything about JWs. Watching this i just feel sorry for her, i hope she escaped that cult
Growing up in a muslim household, I remember one time in school, the cafeteria accidentally served me pork which is considered haram in islam, one of the people working there realized I wasn't supposed to eat pork, then rushed over to tell me, so I spat it out. After that I was crying all day, thinking that I was no longer a muslim and that I would go to hell. My mother comforted me later by telling me that I ate the pork unknowingly, which wasn't my fault so not haram, the memory still remains tho. This is why religion makes me sick, the effects it can have on people, especially children.
I believe children should not be thought religion, as they often take it too seriously, like Caleb, or you. I think it's best when they have are well in to their puberty, like 14.

Poor Caleb, practically suicidal over his thinking Jesus wouldn’t be his “friend “ for having a birthday cupcake. Oh Caleb friendship does not come with strings like that. And his father clearly was not concerned a bit about his son’s emotional well being.
Imagine having a child and thinking it's a terrible sinner that needs to repent or else burn in hell for eternity. Most sane people would feel bad about that I would imagine.
I think the lesson isn’t “ ever eat a cupcake or you will burn in hell for all eternity” more like, “do not take things from events your are not invited to” or something like that
@@Pugsley_elPug the issue here is that Caleb was more than free to have the cupcake since they were for everyone one in his class. Because of the propaganda of birthdays and how “evil” they are to celebrate and that Jehovah would be displeased if Caleb had so much as a taste of frosting is what sent him into an emotional breakdown. It is just a cupcake and the poor kid felt like his whole life was over. That is the true evil
Hey man I know this was posted a while back, but I just wanted to say I love your videos and you've been there to support me through my challenges of being forced to be a JW.

I feel like the bus driver closing the door on Caleb was his way of telling Caleb that he is in a cult. Sophia is older, so it's probably too late for her, but Caleb still has a chance!
Maybe because the bus driver was an ex witness, and remembered since Caleb's currently a witness, and because somewhere in the Bible it says "You cannot take a ride from a sinner" he shut the doors on Caleb because he knows Caleb would have even more of a guilt trip riding the bus, something that is UNACCEPTABLE to JWs.

This would have been a much better use of the scenario given.
you are really underrated
Being tortured over eating a cupcake should be Edp445’s Punishment.

When they converted to Christianity they did not have to remove the olants from their homes because their was nothing sinful about the act itself. Just because a tradition has a connotation to something doesn't mean it is bad in the here and now. What matters is what is on your heart. Not what was on people's hearts thousands of years ago.

Why would anyone want to be friends with such a overly-sensitive, inhumane god like that?
Religion is nothing but a curse
It would've made more sense if his attitude was about the guilt feelings that remain after being forgiven. His real sin was stealing, not celebrating. The Birthday boy forgave him, allowing him to take the cupcake. "It's okay, you can have it." - this is clear language to show that the kid was aware that Caleb was sneaking/stealing a cupcake (likely he had a vague awareness at least at some the rules Caleb has followed in the past), and was like "I know you were trying to steal, but I know that you want a cupcake, because cupcakes are tasty treats and we don't often get cupcakes to eat... I’m a Protestant Christian and I’m praying for JW under this type of emotional abuse
Satan wants people to feel guilty on the day of their birth.
@@swyjix please tell me, I’m a bit slow, was this directed towards me or the other reply?
@@swyjix i’m not against acknowledging your errors. I’m against saying that acknowledging your errors is a to be saved because Jesus paid the price. you don’t have to petition for forgiveness. You are already forgiven.
My mom had a JW friend and always felt bad for her being left out their entire childhood, she would sneak her gifts and stuff for her birthday. The friend in adulthood took a thorough thorough look at the Bible, couldn't find anything to support not celebrating birthdays and said fuck it, I do birthdays now. Her church excluded her and her first husband left. Over celebrating a birthday. But she's much much happier now.
The good ending after a lifetime worth of unnecessary self-induced torture under the guidance of manipulators without ethics. Glad she left that unhealthy lifestyle behind.
Do Catholic and Orthodox Christians celebrate birthdays? Yes? There you go.

Bro my friend asked me if protestant celebrate birthdays. Bro thought JWs and protestant were the same. To anyone wondering yes we do 😭
In orthodoxy we do but some say birthdays are a bad because saint john had his head cut off for the royals entertainment
10:21 Wait, didn't Jesus when he was thirteen, travel with his parents to temple because it was his birthday. He was going through a bar mizpah.
14:32 Jesus, Caleb's dad sure knows how to "cheer" his son up with a depressing story about some guy's friend betraying him, because his friend was terrified of ending up being crucified.
This is why as kids raised as witnesses we had to hold everything inside. Our parents were only going to tell us some Bible stories or start spouting scriptures at us instead of simply listening and talking to us. I used to just retreat inside.
[Jesus’] parents [Joseph and Mary] went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. Being devout Jews, Joseph and Mary would be obliged to be in Jerusalem at least three times yearly, bringing Jesus along. Had nothing to do with the day of his birth.
Joshua 24:15 "NIV"
But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. "Or Jehovah NWT"

Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations,a baptizing themb in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. This includes your children
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
Again it is the parents responsibility (especially the father) to instruct his children in the standards God set forth. Calebs father is clearly concerned about his child's welfare and wants him to be faithful in least so that he will be faithful in much Luke 16:10

Let's just take a second to acknowledge the fact that they're depicting Jesus as... a fully white man with short, smooth hair, and clean clothing.
The hair thing gets me the most😆
Other depictions have him in much longer, fuller, more.. messy, I guess, kind of hair. So.... wtf? Why would you get rid of that, because it doesn't even LOOK the same if you ever put the two side by side, I'm sure.
They've done that since medieval ages, since Europeans couldn't view any non-whites as good or holy.

@@coolboi1232 It does matter. Christians believe that their god chose to be born on Earth as a peasant rather than a king. Jesus is supposed to be depicted as dirty and raggedy, because he was always focusing on the minorities, the oppressed, and those going through hardship.

And his father clearly was not concerned a bit about his son’s emotional well being.
I wouldn't say suicidal, I'd say depressed 😊
Very good point. Emotional abuse.
