    "This isn't Arch... It's Garuda"
You could not have summed that up better. It's a fantastic distro and I had a great experience using the mate version for a little while. It's definitely a great beginner distro because the developers have gone out of their way to nerf it, which is beyond handy. I've found a home with spiral and fedora but every damn time I watch a video from you, I get an urge to burn a USB lol

I use Garuda with the Cinnamon desktop, much muh ol' reliable Linux Mint 17.3, with an Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB graphics card. Love it. I keep Windows around for stuff like Fallout New Vegas and Mad Max (the game's better than the Fury Road flick). Pop OS (which is Debian based) is another modern Linux goodie. Manjaro (another Arch based distro) is pretty dang good too.

This IS Arch with some other defaults, pre-installed apps and more repos. I'm not saying it's not great. But I'm just saying that it's an Arch-based distro. Don't make it as if it's a completely different distro!

the reason the clock is messed up after booting into linux is because most linux distros set the bios clock to gmt and adjust from there, while windows just sets it to whatever time zone you're in. I don't know why microsoft does it that way, doing the actual conversion in the os is better if you are changing time zones, since you don't actually mess with the clock in your computer. You can change it on windows with a registry edit, but it's really stupid (I had to figure this out because I dualboot)

I made the full swap over from windows to Garuda exactly one month ago. To be honest my experience has been amazing. I tried Ubuntu for a while and games would open on the wrong screen and crash my system, I had also fully broken the audio drivers after trying to fix an audio issue.
So I tried Garuda. This OS is on another level. Right from the start it has been running like a Kenyan and I've had little to no issues doing anything I need to do.
Even setting up RDP and Spottify was a breeze on the command line, and I am still a super noob at the CLI.
PLEASE I implore anyone who is looking to switch over from any OS to Linux to try this.

Thank you for giving me the confidence to finally switch to Linux. I use a high end Dac and amp, everyone always saying that Windows mixer gets in the way of streaming "bit perfect" music is the main reason I did it. The difference in sound quality is very noticeable, like a veil has been lifted. Factor in all the other benefits of leaving windows, making my machine faster etc and I am beyond happy that I finally had the courage to do it. I am a complete Linux beginner and Garuda took all the pain out of the process.

ALSO- can those snapshots be put into an ISO like MX does???? Or put on a usb for back later???

The reason why the clock is messed up when you reboot to Windows on a dual-boot machine with Linux and Windows is the fact Windows uses a different time telling method than Linux. ChrisTitusTech has a tweak tool for Windows that allows you to change Windows to allow it to use the same method as Linux. You could also just change Linux to use the same thing Windows does but I think it has unintended consequences from what I remember reading. I imagine there’s edge cases where it affects Windows in unintended ways too but I haven’t seen them with my use-case.

Windows assumes/sets the hardware clock to local time by default; Linux assumes UTC. You can override the Windows behavior by adding a RealTimeIsUniversal value to the registry. See the Arch wiki "System time" entry for details.

I've been using linux since 2006 or so. Reason being even back then with Windows XP I thought that it was ridiculous for a computer to become e-waste just because an OS stops being supported. Started with Ubuntu and have distro-hopped over the years. I always wanted to set up an Arch system but found it a bit too technical. I've been using MX-Linux the past few years and it is incredibly stable. I recently became aware of Garuda and gave it a try. Excellent distro. Have only been using a week as my primary OS, and I do have a copy of MX on a USB ready to install if I feel that I'm in over my head but I intend to stick with Garuda unless that happens.

Thanks, man, for the tutorial and demo of my favorite distro, bar-none. What the heck is there more to ask? Its foundation starts on a Linux Zen series kernel which offers some real performance enhancements but is still very stable. Then the Calamares installer guides the user through a very infallible installation. Seriously, if you can't get through this installation process then you'd probably not be able to get through Windows installation either. Then the rolling distribution process is just about bug-free and painless. I still have yet to break this distro by updating it but just in case, you can easily "roll back" your system by using Timeshift. KDE Plasma is so sweet. KDE has probably the biggest learning curve on this Garuda but if you take a little time to open up some reading or this tutorial you can learn how to configure and shape the desktops, attributes, and characteristics to your personal preference and personality. Adding apps is ridiculously simple, setting up hardware is ridiculously simple, it is beautiful and clean, and all of this is for free. I've had this distro dual booting alongside and I am almost always in the Garuda. In fact, I only run my Windows if I need to interface a piece of instrumentation or external hardware that requires third-party software that necessitates Windows. Linux is just about the most advanced OS there ever was and Garuda is the best of the best. And one of the biggest offerings is that it has a community support system that is just too good.

Whe I installed WayFire, it took hours to problem solve conflicting packages, which I hope removing certain packages was the right way to resolve it. also, for whatever reason, I can't download from a browser, and one program I have used fine in other distros after downloading from its git-hub, trying to install it through Garuda's software installer has taken hours and is still not finished. It's also wanting to use 16 Gb, which the initial program is normally closer to 250 Mb.

I had a time, about something like 15 - 20 years ago, when I took a look at Linux distros every second year. Then I lost the interest. I was mainly a gamer then and still am. Though not so much of only a gamer, anymore.
I like tinkering more. I use more time to get an old game (or newer) to run perfectly... And then I don't play it ;D
So, I kinda like more the tinkering, than "playing".
For some reason (which I don't know why). I started to look more and more Linux community videos lately (At 2021) my main feeling from the "old days", was that Linux community is mainly toxic). And I found out, that it mainly has stayed that way...
Still, I'm a novice. Even after like two years of Garuda usage.
But, let's get to Garuda. It's the main reason, I'm back at Linux. Saw a couple of videos and fell in love with it. Put it to my old T61 laptop, with kinda bad results...
Bought an 500GB NVME drive to my comp and installed Dragonized to it. Installed Mint to that T61... Though, now I found the post about how to put Garuda to older laptop and yes, now there are Win10 and Garuda Xfce on it also!
Copied my older post from Garuda forums, now I have KDE basic-version on my T61. Working a treat!
It took about 24 hours and my main installation of Garuda was ruined. Because of the bug (SDDM) and actually my stupidity. But, that was an VERY good thing to teach me something about Linux and Arch.
This was the only time, I reinstalled Garuda to my main rig, btw.
It's now over 2 years, after I got "back" to Linux. I have Garuda Dragonized as a second OS on my main rig, still. Basic KDE-version on my T61 laptop. And Dragonized as my ONLY os on my hometheater itx-machine!
Some problems, as always, on a rolling distro. Though, I cannot say, anything deal breaking... Games (mainly) work a treat, my itx-machine still has a R290 GPU and you still can play most of games with it!
I don't see the day, that I would remove Windows totally. Mainly because of my GF using my computer also. But mainly, because of the multiplayer games.
Love Linux novadays! Friggin' LOVE IT!
So much is still "wrong", but Linux now is better that ever!
P.S. And as I'm using "dual boot" (kinda) on my main machine, I would propose everyone to do it this way, if possible.
I use both OS on their own drive. With both of their bootloaders on the corresponding drive.
So, W11 is on it's own drive, with it's own bootloader and same with Garuda with it's Grub.
I decide which to boot, on start up with the "boot button" of my motherboard (F11).
So, like that, W11 doesn't mess with Linux and vice versa.

While there's a lot of newbie friendly distro's, it really depends on how computer literate that user is. If you're grandma who only browses the web, then something like Linux mint might be fine. If you're coming from Windows as a power user - Linux Mint probably won't cut the mustard.
When I was switching (still switching LOL), the only distro that seemed to work for me and I felt comfortable in was Manjaro KDE. However, I had been trying Linux for over 20 years in various forms. But this was the distro I could easily change how it looked to my liking, had the tools I needed and have it up, running and working within a matter of hours. It had the least amount of flaws to begin with for me compared to other distro's I'd tried. And they say don't use Arch as a first distro?
In the end, I think it's whatever makes you comfortable moving over. If that happens to be Garuda, Manjaro, Fedora, Linux Mint - so be it. ATM I'm using Manjaro on one and Fedora on another and like them both although very much considering Garuda after seeing how you customise it.

Gamers might to fall on the 3rd category these days, even though for me gaming means to go the console (Playstation and the likes) way. This one is a keeper! One suggestion - write down what hardware (like printers, scanners, game controllers) you have connected and look up Linux support for these - might be a deal breaker. Or an excuse to do your homework and buy newer equipment, your mileage may vary, grin.

I've ALWAYS done that--- except in stead of the panel, I use PLANK and can work with it easier. I take several thigns OFF-- no need for music players on there- or photo viewers.. .those will open automaitcally when you set them that way-- I only put stuff NOT opening automatically on my plank!! I thought Garuda was beautufil wihen I first saw it- but the more I look at it - the more guady it looks to me-- I'd have to change it completely. This one background you're showing above looks good- and I'd set my background to rotate regularly.. I really like BLUE STAR beter!!! (except I couldn't get it to recognize my secondary hard drive that is my STORAGE drive for data.. I'm using SPIRAL-- because it's debain- it's FAST- , it's BRTFS, and VERY good..

if your crazy, i'm crazy as well, used arch since i know of it.. i like how it looks flashy and different then pop os, mint, ubuntu, those i've tried aswell.. i used windows since 3.11.
So it was kinda a big step from Windows 10 to ubuntu/mint/pop os. everyone on the internet always said that arch is voor elitist (experienced users).
so i was bit scared not understanding any linux distro. since win 11 making it more difficult for older hardware to run it. i'm leaning more to linux as main OS for that PC (i7 6700k & 5700xt)
its runing Garuda since today tried Nobara yesterday it ran fine, but i think Garuda looks nicer. so hope it will run as good as my experience yesterday.

I do want to get setup with Pipewire already installed because trying to install it has led to conflicts that weren't easy to resolve in other distros. It's hard to find audio engineers that switched and are satisfied with their Linux experience. So many give up because they already have 20+ years developed programs in Windows that work, and thus are less frustrating than Linux, which is barely getting to where it can do MIDI and streaming music and performance with minimal latency. Not to mention, Pipewire is said to finally get ASLA and Jack to work together, instead of having to switch between them, which boesn't help if trying to stream audio that only works on ASLA, but goes quiet on Jack, and thus can't be streamed live. Not to mention producing music in modern DAWs that use both MIDI instruments and synths alongside audio and modern VSTs.
Fedora Jam was OK, but it had the ASLA-Jack conflict. Unbutu studio better, and AV as well. But I considered Garuda because I heard it came with pipewire, and Gamer distos tend to be tweaked with high performance in mind. So I'd really like to get it working, and maybe see if it might be a way to graft in Cakewalk, or maybe find a decent Linux based DAW, such as Ardour to get the music work flow going again, as well as play some games and explore Second Life.

I finally got around to installing this. I was having a few issues with Manjaro anyway and then updated windows 10 on this dual boot and Windows being so "Linux Friendly" decided to stuff the grub loader 🤬. So instead of trying to fix it, I thought I'd give Garuda a go.
Well, I'm not too impressed. Even with the garish theming I thought I could fix that. Install time was quick (like any Linux install), however I ended up installing it twice since I thought there was an issue when I installed it first go round. Nope, there's some dodgey stuff happening. So quick install and stuffing around with it for hours afterwards.
When you actually install it on hardware, these are the issues I found with it:
    - After install, it asks to do an update (fine). Then does a partial update after failing errors. After doing a second update, it stuffs the KDE wallpaper selector (and god knows what else). That's one of the reasons for using KDE is the customisation and if you can't do it, whats the point?
    - Playing around with the latte dock is sketchy at best. I tried adding some widgets and the whole dock disappeared with no menus. I ended up just adding a default KDE panel to get me going again until I reinstalled
    - Their Firedragon browsers is garbage now. The Garudasearx doesn't work anymore for duckduckgo or google as there's an overload or their account is disabled due to high volume searches.
    - The decorations aren't consistent if you change them to something other than dragonized. You'll get half whatever you picked and half dragonized.
    - Installing Firefox on here doesn't bring up your add ons by default when you sync. You have to manually add them to the menu
I'm not going to go any further with it. There's some great features, but it's too dodgey ATM
    Yeah I'll give it a miss 👎

if you look at phoronix distro benchmarks which include ubuntu, clear(intel), opensuse, arch, fedora...etc.
you discover at the very end they are not far from each other even if one of them is a bit faster say y 5 or 10%
But for which is faster, I dunno, maybe nobara because the dev has experience in red hat, fedora, proton, lutris...etc.
The general idea that arch is fastest in gaming still stands though

I think a better way to get into UEFI for this tutorial is to open powershell as admin and put in without quotes "shutdown /r /t 0 /fw" The fw flag will automatically take you straight to your UEFI menu without mashing keys. It's always good to know your motherboard's bound key to get in, but if your PC is working just fine, a command imo is the way to go! The Linux equivalent in the terminal is (Again without quotes) "sudo systemctl reboot --firmware-setup". It's also a good way to familiarize people wanting to get into Linux to use the terminal to do specific things. Here's the hard truth. Whether you like it or not, there WILL be a time you use the terminal. You're not gonna get around that, but it's nowhere near as scary as people make it out to be and you'll quickly learn how to use it, and in fact, you'll also learn it's a great way to get stuff done in general. For example, updating your system is way better this way because you can read everything that's gonna happen before you consent to the update. I dunno about Garuda but in EndeavourOS, all you have to type is "yay" and it'll update everything you've installed with pacman AND the AUR.

      Alternative methods:
In windows, when holding shift as you click "restart" you can enter a menu allowing to boot into UEFI. In Linux, or rather, KDE, you can open System Settings, click Startup and Shutdown, then Desktop Session and under Firmware there's an option called "After next restart ☑ Enter UEFI setup screen".

Btrfs does not play nice with other drives being plug-in, along with high-end Sony Cameras. It destroys them, like my yrs of family photos/video and my editing work. Runs out of memory. They Just roll out updates and wait to get the bugs from everyday users, it seems. Do not use as your work/Business computer with this. Use something STABLE like Deb. Esp.if you have Photos/video you want to pass on to your children. NEW USERS BEWARE!!! Works great on some hardware... Probably the hardware they used to make Garuda. Wish It was stable. I have lost 4 back-up drives, 3 drives for Garuda installed to and a Sony a6600. They can be replaced in time, but my work, and family memories can not.
