@univera1111 Tough question, Arch have it's pros and cons. There are some aspects of Arch Linux that some users may find preferable over Debian: 1. Up-to-date software: Arch Linux is a rolling release distribution, which means that its packages are updated continuously as soon as they are available. This results in a more up-to-date software environment compared to Debian, which releases new versions on a fixed schedule. 2. Minimalist approach: Arch Linux follows a more minimalist approach, providing users with the freedom to install only the software and packages they need. This makes Arch Linux more lightweight and customizable compared to Debian, which comes with a larger default installation size and a wider range of pre-installed software. BUT: Arch "bleeding edge" packages can also contain bugs. 3. Faster bug fixes and security updates: Because Arch Linux's packages are updated continuously, bug fixes and security updates are released faster than on Debian, which waits for scheduled releases. 4. AUR: Arch User Repository (AUR) is a community-driven repository that provides additional packages not found in the official Arch Linux repositories. This allows users to easily install software that may not be available in the official repositories. However, be aware that Arch Linux requires a higher level of technical expertise compared to Debian, which can be less user-friendly for beginners or those who prefer a more "out-of-the-box" experience. That's actually the point where Arch-based distros as Garuda (for example) are truly shining. You have a lot of stuff configured out-of-box and you free to customize it as you like. Also Arch Linux is a distro driven by community of enthusiasts, it is not a corporation. Finally, there are no BEST distros, just find the one you like, comfortable with and go with it. Have a great day.
Okay, I'm literally at 1:47, and I already KNOW I'm gonna dig this. You have no idea how giddy it makes me to see MATE in the old GNOME 2 orientation, with a top and bottom bar, and the top bar having "Applications", "Places", and "System". My all-time favorite release of Ubuntu was 10.10, the last version they released with GNOME 2, and it takes me back to those releases between 8.04 and 10.10 (when I first discovered Linux).
I've been using garuda for a while and it's worked very well for me. Installation and initial configuration was very easy and the DE looked sweet. Also the chaotic-aur is very underrated, I've installed it on my Endeavor laptop as well. In all honesty though, it makes me realize how distros such as garuda are really just arch with someone else's configs and programs. I realized that I'd prefer to install a base system such as endeavor and then configure it to have only what I want. That being said, I'm sticking with garuda since I already have it all set up
Just tried the the new Garuda Xfce the other day, and it was great. They didn't have that one out until just recently. On my PC it was lighter and faster than the other distros so decided to keep it.
Hey DT, you can use aur package called bsp-layout to get your desired layouts in your bspwm WM and if you like xmonad type of keybindings mean followed by keybindings then you can use this specific syntax in your sxhkdrc file. Syntax looks like: super + e; {e, d, v} after using these two things in mine my thoughts has been totally changed for bspwm and you can make a video on exodia os which is arch based operating system and bspwm is default WM there.
As far as I know, Garuda isn't really an eagle but a mythological creature. Specifically, a divine eagle-like man-like sun-bird thing. Pretty fascinating concept. Some call it the Eagle God of Strength. From the same vein of mythology of Pheonixes, in Hindu, if I'm not mistaken. I admit, i'm fairly ignorant on the subject but I've done some small reading on it before. Super interesting stuff. If someone out there is more familiar with this and thinks I'm wrong, please do correct/enlighten me.
Just tried the Cinnamon Edition in a VM. Looks nice but the system is not able to update. (error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: removing sweet-kde-theme-git breaks dependency 'sweet-kde-theme-git' required by sweet-theme-full-git). A distro that can't even do a system update after the installation is a no go!

Hey DT, when is it appropriate to enable the 'login automatically' option? Personally I only use it for local media PC's that have no personal info and aren't connected to the web. This is to make it easy for guests to watch movies or play games.
Login automatically is very handy if you want to create a guest user that only had view access to files and no sudo privileges on something like a media pc another would be when you encrypt your ssd l. In case of encryption using cryptsetup you will have to decrypt your device once on startup by providing the decrypt key. most people don't want to add another password after that to login so just login automatically is set up.
Garuda team makes some nice looking distro.. The only downside don't ask for help on their forums there are a bunch of Redacted word when you ask questions
I need to move my old faithful windows 7 gaming box onto something linux based. I've tried void, arch, manjaro, debian, nixos, and artix, and I've not really clicked with any of them for what I want to use my machine for. Going to be giving Garuda xfce a chance.
Correction in your video; you stated that if you had manually partitioned your drive inside of the Garuda installer you could have selected another file system besides btrfs. This is false. Garuda installer has removed all file system options except btrfs. Garuda's policy is that btrfs is the only option for their DE. Now you can partition your disk outside the Garuda installer manually and select whatever file system, but in doing so, Garuda states they will not support these types of Frankenstein installations. BTRFS is king in Garuda world.
Yes super suspicious...for an open source distro to have similar looking open source images made by open source supporters made for an open source community...odd
I don't trust any distro that doesn't require me to setup my own audio, graphical environment and least 2 days to get my graphics card working properly.
Garuda is wonderful, but the fact that installation using a 30xx or 40xx gpu is not possible due to widely reported system crashes during installation kind of flies in the face of their core aims of bleeding edge support and gaming level support. Disappointing.
Very bad that they include the "bargain hunter" spyware known as Honey. It slows down the browser, sometimes drastically, and the number of trackers and calls it produces is ridiculous. I'd bet that Honey paid them to include it.
Garuda: "KDE Dragonized Gaming Edition" Also Garuda: "Dual-boot has never and will never be supported" Then again, according to the 🤡s running their "assistance" forum, Garuda was never meant for gaming, so go figure... 🤦
@Feel Alive Musix No reason why not that. I'm just pointing out how silly it is that Garuda's marketing is targeting gamers, but then it turns out that the devs never intended their distro to be gaming focused. It's like there is no internal communication. And their communication with users leaves as much to be desired.
