Besides, because you do not mention the name of his grandfather, it seems you are suggesting that Ashok Ranade was his grandfather! Of course then one sees other gurus mentioned in the same sentence. It is a badly written sentence basically.
I think he has to use Ma as the tonic (Shadj) because that is how it is done in Manj Khamaj. Then it sounds like it is too high. I am not an expert, so this is just a hypothesis.

I think it is in Manj Khamaj. The original singer might have been DV Paluskar. Please doublecheck with an expert.
