Kedar Bodas is a khayal vocalist, singing in the Gwalior gharana style. His father Narayanrao Bodas was a famous singer and Marathi stage-actor, and passed his love of music onto his son. Kedar had a childhood fascination for the tabla, but soon settled on vocal music, going on to develop an eclectic, esoteric style. In addition to Hindustani music he has studied linguistics and Russian folk tunes in depth, as well as composing for documentaries. Hear more of Kedar here:

"Born in family of professional musicians, Kedar Bodas is the son of Sri Narayan Bodas, a well-known singer and teacher of the Gwalior and Agra Gharana-s as well as a professional actor-singer on the Marathi stage. Kedar had his earliest training from his grandfather, Pandit Lakshmanrao Bodas who was a direct disciple of Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar of the Gwalior Gharana. Kedar thus grew up in an atmosphere conducive to his musical education. As a child he was also fond of playing tabla which he studied under Pandit Pandurang Salunkhe ( disciple of Ustad Amir Hussain Khan) and Pandit Shreedhar Padhye (disciple of Pandit Kerkar Master) His training in tabla gave him an early insight into the formal and rhythmic aspect of Hindustani Music; however, he was instinctively attracted to vocal music and the freedom of expression he felt it gave him." He was a disciple of the great musicologist Pandit Ashok Da Ranade . Pandit Ranade was related maternally to the Bodas family.
Ashok Ranade was Kedar's earlier Guru, the first was his Grandfather Pt.Laxmanrao Bodas. Later Kedar learned from Pt.Trymbakrao Janorikar too. Incidentally Dr.Ashok D.Ranade had learned from Pt.Laxmanrao Bodas also.

Is this raga Gunakali or Gunakari? The two ragas are distinctly different. Gunakari, also called as Gunakri is more close to Bhairav while Gunakali belongs to Bilawal group of ragas which have natural notes. Somehow this seems to be Gunakari or Gunakri whichever name one may call. But this does not seem to be Gunakali. Experts please clarify my doubts. Thank you
