@@MikeGoodrich You may want to watch her version of "About Love I Don't Know a Thing". It's part of this same show and is a translation into English of Ruben's original about his parents divorce. Either way watch the Jenniezelf versions as they have English subtitles and a bit of info about what is happening. They will make clear, not only what is going on in the show but also will illustrate exactly what you are saying here. The songs are sung specifically to the person sitting at the couch furthest from the stage. Both are brilliant.

She actually nailed every song she performed there: Like even "Vilja Lied" by Franz Lehar. She sang this for Henk Poort. Not only is he quite a popular opera singer. His mother was, too. And his mother was famous for singing this song.

Talking about singing with emotion, check out Poets of the Fall. Doesn't matter which song you chose, they don't have a bad song.

"Beth Roars" (on YT) did a reaction once on their song "carnival of rust". In a version, seemingly not available on YT. That is how I came across them. Amazing!

Laura Fabian is definitely a singer that really tells a story like no other. Her live versions are simply amazing, you can really tell she is totally absorbed by the songs and lives the lyrics.

Really universal view of delivering a story. I personally think this in more like Theater, but the prinsipal is same. You have to draw from the situation and your personal feeling in that situation! It is part of all art! You have to feel it yourself, so that you can represent it. May it be a play, a painting or a song or poetry... it does not matter.
You did say it very well! Keep on showing/telling it to your students! It is more important than remembering your lines!

Another great emotion song is the live solo acoustic version of "Snuff" by Corey Taylor (from the bands Slipknot and Stone Sour). There are a couple of videos on TH-cam of him performing it that you should definitely check out.

When he mentioned U2 all I could think of was when my boyfriend said he has been getting more and more pissed of with them since it is an automatic band on IPhones so he hears them all the time and I just sit there like, "This is nice. Childhood feelings. Yay actually storytelling!". I know this was random but I couldn't help it since I completely agree that U2 has great storytelling in their songs.

Another word for playing music with emotion is that "Heavy Metal" is about for me, an protest against commersially controlled music. Play what you want without compromises,
take it if you want it or ignore it. All music should be played from the heart. If you are true too yourself the emotions will show. I can feel Floor because she feels very genuine and passionate. I'm not a singer, I play guitar so the technical description I leave to our excellent singing expert :) I think "Symphonic Metal" is very close to "Heavy Metal". The dynamic, the power and the tempo changes.

Great advise, I think. And it made me think of "rockin' all over the world". I think most people know that song from Status Quo. But the original is from John Fogerty. Pls listen to both versions. And tell me if I found a perfect example for what you've been talking about here, Mike.

Personally I can't wait for you to listen to Shoemaker. Shoemaker was not an easy song. Floor, when first trying, asked Tuomas:" Tuomas, where can I breathe? ".
Apparently the ending of the song was not up to par to Nightwish standard and Floor took it home to give it different tries. When she finally got it she discovered a new ability in her voice and she herself was surprised listening back.

you should definitely react to Serj Tankian Either his solo albums or his singing in his alt rock band, both are good his solo album as some incredible songs where he really shows incredible range i love his voice personally. If you do decide to i would suggest reacting to lie lie lie its not the best of his solo albums but it show his vocal strengths.

Talk about emotions! For all jazz aficionados and Billie Holiday fans-especially those that love her song “ Gloomy Sunday” I would like you or your subscribers to publicly or privately react to an under-rated world class vocalist named “ Eivor”who after dark in a studio or nightclub somewhere performed this beyond amazing rendition of “ Gloomy Sunday” with such emotional impact and feelings-soaring at times into the celestial realm where only Billie and the angels tread-that I’m certain you ( like hundreds of other reactors I’ve sent the song to) will become mesmerized. It will silence your mind and open the floodgates of your heart and soul.
    Please TH-cam
“Eivor & Ginman after dark gloomy Sunday” ( click the 5:11 one posted by AlruneR)
If you do react and enjoyed, please let me know by giving me a thumbs up or comment.
I watch and listen to this amazing performance once a week and almost always transports me to Billie Holiday-land.
And I end up in tears.
    R. I. P. Billie Holiday
All love in isolation from Miami Beach ,
    Al
