I love it when classically trained musicians react to Nightwish, and fully appreciate the musical genius of Tuomas Holopainen, and indeed the rest of the band.
Hello there Jess, greetings from UK It is great to see you back reacting to Nightwish. The Nightwish Army love hearing your reaction to Nightwish songs 🥰
@@jessicasopranonotes Hi Jess, we feel grateful that you are happy to give us your thoughts. We all think that Floor is a wonderful singer and that Nightwish are a great band and you help us understand why we feel that way. Thank you for all that you do
I loved this reaction! Am I a singer? No. Do I read music? No. Will I be able to remember or use the detailed information you presented? No. But I really appreciated your analysis and found it to be extremely interesting. THANK YOU!
Great to see tou back with another NIGHTWISH reaction! At some point, you have got to react to NIGHTWISH - The POET and the PENDULUM, Wembley Arena 2015, A masterpiece in 5 movements, five stages of grief, very dramatic, like a mini opera, many different vocal styles, amazing performance. and NIGHTWISH - The GREATEST SHOW on EARTH, Tampere 2015 The performance lives up to the title of the song.
My favourite song of all time, of course. However, I think for Jess as a content creator and the aim of her channel, the best song choice is "Shoemaker" next!
Wow, really, one of the best reaction/musical breakdowns I've ever seen! Thank you....... Their complex time signatures are so integral to their music, and it is NOT easy to break that down, and you did it so so well...... Also your music theory is awesome, showing how Tuomas uses subtle nods to modal shifts and secondary dominants, frequent key changes etc, ...... He truly is genius like no other in modern genre's,...... so steeped in classical trappings. One thing for you to know is that those WERE horns, but not plated by Tuomas on his Kronos keyboards. Nightwish performs to backing tracks that are written by Tuomas but arranged by a famous arranger that the name eludes me at the moment, and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The vocal chorus parts are also performed by a famous choir as well that someone will recall I'm sure. Floor is just truly a once in a lifetime talent, really a force of nature ..... In every way...... I mean just look at her, lol, her physical presence and stature COMMANDS attention on stage or anywhere for that matter, and no doubt her physical self has a huge effect on her sound and vocal abilities, resonance, breath control, stamina etc...... You touched on what not many people recognize is SO difficult about trying to reproduce or cover the vocals on this song, ( actually a lot of Tuomas's compositions ) and that is that like you said it's riddled with tons of chromatic half step intervals that are all over the place, that jump to higher or lower intervals that are not common in most genre's of music....... Floor just navigates these with such ease and PRECISION! And it's RAPID fire! A lot of people gloss over her tuning ability, i know you don't because in your genre it is expected, but wow, Floor's pitch is just dead on ...... and all those super rapid half steps up, down, up, up, down, big jump, ...... SUPER easy to get pitchy right?! And she's just not even thinking about, .... Just the performance. Of course the middle, my God, glorious ...... she never ceases to give goose bumps and tears..... and the end ...... the vocalizations ...... ugggh! That mouth and the sound that just flies out...... I don't think I've ever heard a voice that sounds so open, and free, ...... Her creativity is just simply not limited by her vocal ability in any way.
Finally! Where have you been? You can't have anything better to do, that doing these reactions for us 🤣 Anyway, loved this reaction so much 🥰 Thank you 🙏
That "opera style" part in 31:13 is actually in the album a choral part that Floor decided to sing live herself. This song was sung originally by Annete Olson, their previous singer that Floor was (at the time this concert was recorded) subbing. Great reaction / breakdown, as usual! You should check their song called "Shoemaker". Floor does some vocal acrobatics with melody and breathing. For a vocalist it is a very busy song.
Extremely fast verses with rapid-fire lyrics and not much room to breathe is bit of a signature for Nightwish, and it's only gotten more so in recent albums. Tuomas has pushed Floor's vocal agility to the limits, more so than he has remotely challenged her range or sustain - everyone who has heard their latest single masterpiece "An Ocean Of Strange Islands" will know what I mean!
That was awesome! I was surprised you hadn't already done this, but that just made it all the more special. This is one of my favorite Floor performances, and your reaction and analysis was top tier, as always! Even though a lot of what you said goes a bit over my head, your passion and enthusiasm keeps it entertaining. 🤟 You asked for recommendations, so how about Aurora's "A Soul with No King" live at Vevo performance?
This song was written when Anette Olzon was the vocalist for Nightwish, and that high, operatic part was not sung by Anette, but was part of the children's chorus on the backing track. Floor however was/is able to sing it herself, so they went to that for the live performances.
OMG Jess, what an awesome video. For me, you produce the best analysis of any similar reactors. This song is one of my all time favourites and you have outdone youself with your analysis. One suggestion for a reaction would be Reborn by Xandria(German symphonic metal). The singer Ambre(French) is competent in classical, rock/metal and adds harsh vocals occasionally. Looking forward to your next one. 💕
Really great song analysis Jess. Much deeper music theory than other content creators. Wonderful how much you fully understand the breathing techniques involved. A true professional! You would kill this song Jess!🌹

Like your reactions. Very good. and You know what you are talking about. Greetings from Vienna. one of the best reactions i have ever seen (and i saw thousands).
WOW... what an extraordinarily good video that was. First of all, thank you very much for the time and work you have invested. I've certainly seen hundreds of reaction videos, but what you've delivered here beats them all. To get a Floorgassm when the goddess opens her mouth is nothing unusual, but to get one during an analysis, I have not experienced that until now. I immediately gave a subscription and a like. Really great work; thanks to you.
Been a session gun for about 45 years now and have tracked for the greatest vocal instruments in the biz. What you are seeing here can't be critiqued nor analyzed by anyone. Her tonality, range, dynamics and delivery are beyond any words. Even a very good Juilliard trained friend said "she is to be heard only". With that, just listen and be honored you live in her time.
So good, Jess. In an absolute mountain of reactors, vocal coaches and musicians breaking down songs, you are the very tippity top. Literally top 3 in a list of about 10,000.
Watching this was such a good time! I'm happy to have found you on here. :) I'm not too sure what to recommend at the moment but I'm looking forward to your future content. :)
Thanks for sharing your detailed reaction/analysis to a song about the beauty of storytelling and imagination. The narrator imagines a world that is full of wonder and beauty, evoking a sense of awe and nostalgia. The song suggests that within each person is a "crib of Peter Pan," a reference to the timeless children's story, which holds the potential to bring stories to life and provide a refuge from reality. In the chorus, the narrator proclaims themselves to be the storyteller, offering readers their own brand of Neverland, a place where innocence, dreams, and memories come together. In the bridge and final chorus, Nightwish encourages listeners to embark on their own journey of discovery, setting sail on the limitless "chest of tales" to explore the limitless possibilities of imagination.
Usually I don't coment. Period! I just got to say....I love U ! Not just because of U'r analisis,, just cause I read U like an honest person. Keep doing it!
Love your Nightwish reactions! Great stuff as always. If you think about more Nightwish, The Poet And The Pendulum (OFFICIAL LIVE) is one of their classics.
One of the best reactions I have seen on Nightwish. You really break in down nicely. I only wish I knew what you were talking about with all the technical jargon. Was really refreshing to see you enjoying the skills, me, I only know about the emotion that I ALWAYS feel when listening to any song from this Nightwish performance at Wacken 2013. Tears galore. Semper Fi from Wisconsin! (Gona go see if I can find your reaction to GLS) Stay safe pretty lady.
Just watching your excitement is wonderful. I’ve always loved this song but don’t have your understanding, so it’s good to know how special this song is. I missed your reaction videos.
Thank you for the fantastic reaction/analysis, love the enthusiasm and that you really put in the work and how you put your knowledge in words in a way that even I can understand. Loved every second of this. I'm not educated in music theory so I don't know exactly why I connect with Nightwish so strongly and this makes me understand it a bit better. I just never get bored of these songs and I feel like I can always discover something new. They are full of surprises, but I can't pinpoint what they are and why is it different to some other music. Like this song is so catchy and easy to sing a long to the melody instantly that it feels like it must be simple, but somehow it doesn't get boring after multiple listens, so maybe it isn't. Your explanation is very helpful.
Thank you for this AWESOME analysis! It gave me a whole new appreciation of my favorite live performance of Floor and NW! It sorta made me understand a little more WHY (subconsciously) I love this performance so much!
It somehow strike me, when Opera Singer says abouy Tuomas "My God, is he so good.." because I just watch a clip of interview of Tuomas, where he said that when he was 15-16, he never even like music so much, albeit being practiced classical piano. But when he go that Metallica and Guns and Roses consert in US where he was exchange student, he described it being "allmost religious experince" and "something change here (in brain)"...he said when Guns n Roses start playing after Merallica, he didnt care, he was still completely in "Metallica high".. Great reaction 👌👍🏻🤘
I am not that interested in every little piece of musical information you provide and therefore I skipped ahead sometimes, but I appreciate that it‘s there even if it isn’t for me. That took a lot of effort. Proper analysis well presented.
hell i love reactions from Opera singers to nightwish ❤ would love you to react on shoemaker, that Song makes me cry everytime since i heard it live 🥹😍🥰
Hi, I love your analysis! Great reaction. Liked! (Already subbed). Thank you for the great analysis, it helps me appreciate the song even more! I adore Floor Jansen. The thing that a lot of people don't realize is that she was NOT IN A BAND just the previous year before. She was suffering BURNOUT from the years and years she had putting in work in the music world, with her previous bands. As amazing and deserving as she is and was, she was still pretty unknown. After Forever was kind of known but not the kind of recognition like Nightwish had. Anyway Nightwish called her up MID TOUR in late 2012, and this Wacken show in 2013 was the resulted accumulation of her learning the songs during that tour. Figuring out what worked for her and how she could make each song her own. And EVERY SONG from Wacken was, to me, a perfect 10/10. It was also the first time she recorded anything with Nightwish. And look at her, in this song and in all the others, from Ghost Love Score to Nemo to Everdream. They're all unbelievable. She was in a zone. An absolute vocal CLINIC.
Good one! Even as an amateur musician I can appreciate the incredible effort it must take to get on stage night after night operating on this level. I have worked at the opera and observed them, only a few of a house is called upon to work at this level. In their nicely regulated buildings, not a random bus stop of a stage. Floor is such professional and bad ass. She must have worked so hard to get there and stay. All my respect l.
HI Jess. I've subscribed. I love your analysis - so much detail and your descriptive powers are great. You join the Fariy Voicemother as my favourite reactors.
This is THE reaction I´ve been waiting for!! Kind of proves my thoughts on Floor.. She is for the first an amazing person and a highly skilled singer! You can´t fake it, right?
Great to see talented people of other genres come arround to our Nightwish and begin understanding the attraction . If you just listen and let it take you somewhere , then you start to get it and truly appreciate the brilliance that Thuomas brings to the table along with reading the lyrics . It all has its place and is never stagnant , keeping the audience and listener engaged from start to finish , a rare trait in music of today . Good on You and well broken down with a trained ear , you pointed a few little treats out that I hadn't picked out previously listening to this track . That's Nightwish for you ! 😁 Next , if not already done , "The greatest show on earth" Live at Tampere or "The poet and the pendulum" Live at Wembley arena , These really showcase some versatility . I would advise to read the lyrics first then react to the song as there will be ALOT to unpack , And I mean ALOT ! Cheers 🇦🇺
Thank you for a very knowledgeable and extensive reaction. I would love for you to react to Yours Is An Empty Hope live from Mexico City. When you realise what Floor is doing in the chorus you will just lose it!
I'm in love with your style and your personality.. you could probably top Floor on dome technical abilities, but all you do is praise and analyze as a fan. That is so first class!
What I expected: A great reaction. What I got: A great reaction along with a really interesting exploration of the music, theory and skill put into practice to make a great song. Thank you!! And I agree with others: Poet and the Pendulum. But also Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013) - if you haven’t already - which leaves me speechless even after years of listening to it.
Peter Pan and Neverland definitely aren't the most typical subjects in metal songs. Holopainen however was a huge Disney fan before he even got into listening music. Metallica does refer to Neverland in their song 'Enter Sandman', and as it happened, when Holopainen was in the US as an exchange student, seeing Metallica live in 1992 made him a Metallica fan and got him into metal music. As he tells on this video about his favorite albums: "Levykauppa Äx esittää - Lempilevyni: Tuomas Holopainen". Being a huge Disney fan, Holopainen has also composed a soundtrack to Disney illustrator Don Rosa's graphic novel 'The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck'. Don Rosa's first impression of Holopainen, when he approached Rosa with the idea of composing the soundtrack, tells how untypical subject Disney is in metal songs. As an introduction to Don Rosa's interview about the project and to a song from that album; Holopainen isn't alone in being a Disney fan in Finland. E.g. the Donald Duck magazine ('Aku Ankka' in Finnish) is one of the most subscribed weekly magazines in Finland. Also-these are in Finnish-but they give a general idea of where Holopainen is coming from with his Disney fandom. First song is a classic Finnish song from 1936 by Georg Malmstén. Greta is his sister. Mickey Mouse is in distress at sea. A sea troll is after him: "Georg Malmstén & Greta Pitkänen ~ Mikkihiiri Merihädässä (1936)" Here her daughter Ragni performs the song in 1973. Coincident, maybe, but who does the sea captain look like?: "Ragni Malmsten - Mikki Hiiri merihädässä 1973". There's also this more recent Club For Five's a cappella version: "Mikkihiiri merihadassa by Club For Five". This beloved classic 'Grease' adaption comic bit is from 1979: "Sinut haluan vain Ritva Valkama & Pentti Siimes Parempi myöhään show". Here are interviews with Don Rosa and then with him and Holopainen about the 'Scrooge McDuck' project: "Don Rosa Aku Ankan toimituksen haastattelussa" and "Aku Ankan toimitus haastattelee: Tuomas Holopainen ja Don Rosa". Holopainen's wife Johanna Kurkela, who is a talented songwriter and a popular artist herself, sings the role of "Glittering" Goldie o'Gilt: "TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN - A Lifetime of Adventure (OFFICIAL VIDEO)". It's probably the greatest honor for a Finnish Disney fan to have a character based on oneself published in Aku Ankka magazine. Holopainen has had that honor together with his friend Jouni Hyhynen as characters named Hopolainen and Hymynen. You can find a picture of the characters online. Jouni Hynynen is the leader of a band called 'Kotiteollisuus'. Here they perform a song 'Fairytale About Trolls' with Holopainen: "Kotiteollisuus feat. Tuomas Holopainen - Satu Peikoista (LIVE, HIMOS 2010)". Kotitellisuus' version of Killing Joke's song 'Pandemonium' was released on the Killing Joke tribute album along with Metallica's version 'The Wait'. Holopainen took part in the project: "Kotiteollisuus - Pandemonium". To wrap this up, Metallica took inspiration to 'Enter Sandman' riff from a Finnish band Stone's song 'Get Stoned'. Even Ozzy makes an appearance. The question asked is "What do think about Metallica? What about Stone?". This happened before Holopainen discovered metal music: "Metallica & Stone Rockstop 1988 (Finnish television)" and "Stone - Get Stoned". And what has Marco been up to. Certainly something extremely metal?: "MARKO HIETALA - Frankenstein's Wife (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)"
I must commend you on the very detailed commentary. Also, your video quality is excellent. I have a 4k rig, so I was able to enjoy it in all its radiant glory. 😊🤘
@@jessicasopranonotes I wish more reactors offered it, but of course, it all depends on the rig and bandwidth. As a gamer, I run a very hot rig on gigabit fiber. It's pricey, but worth it. 😄
Oookkay...! So great reaction. Maybe the best. This is an old music teacher from Finland (land of Nightwish) You really made more than a reaction. You went deep down in theory and structures. So wonderful. Also You are a wonderful person! You really understood the clue of Nightwish-"style". Ok, singers sing, what they can...Floor sings, what She wants. The old joke : Tuomas - Floor can You sing this? Floor - Be so kind and hold my beer... Well, I respect Your reaction because of the honesty and professialism. So sad that Marko left the band. Floor and Marko vocally were the best harmonics of metal ever! But. You are great! All the best and stay safe😀 Interesting might be a christmas (coming soon) song from Floor in Finland, (band not Nightwish, a tour band) Raskasta Joulua (Heavy X´mas) When She was heavily pregnant...but so perfect and She sang it in finnish! th-cam.com/video/ym1Wc5dmUYc/w-d-xo.html
26:50 These high notes are not part of the album version because the then-current singer couldn't sing this high. Original album version has only background choir this high but Floor was skillful enough to do it live.

One of my favorite tracks of Nightwish, it has it all the band is all about. Even thought is not one of their most famous albums, this creepy circus vibe album, was majestic, I like it.

Girl, you broke this song down like a beast! Love it! ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow, thank you so much! That means the world. It’s always great seeing you in the comment section! ☺️
Watching this was such a good time! I'm happy to have found you on here. :)
I'm not too sure what to recommend at the moment but I'm looking forward to your future content.
This is why I love reactions. Great job, and thank you, Jess. Nightwishalisciousness!
The final climb and cry-off at the end of this song is my #1 favorite Floor moment.
Love your Nightwish reactions! Great stuff as always. If you think about more Nightwish, The Poet And The Pendulum (OFFICIAL LIVE) is one of their classics.
Best analysis and deconstruction of the song I’ve heard. Far better than the fake over blown emotions for clicks so many do. 👍
I missed your reaction videos.
i think you would really enjoy their song Shoemaker!
I'm a simple man. I just love Nightwish. But I really enjoyed your technical analysis. Thank you for this video. You're truly appreciated. Bless you 🙏
Wow! Great reaction, loved it! ❤
Thank you for this AWESOME analysis! It gave me a whole new appreciation of my favorite live performance of Floor and NW! It sorta made me understand a little more WHY (subconsciously) I love this performance so much!
Well that's my mind blown with your explanation, I just know this band is so tight and amazing in everything they do.
They are!
Thanks so very much great breakdown of my favorite band and wonderful uplifting song
My pleasure!
Really good how you took your time to do your analysis, any of their songs are masterpieces to be appreciated, keep rocking and stay safe....
Great analysis! I hadn't previously noticed many details you discussed about in your reaction.
🤩👍💥💯 🎼
Wonderful to see you're back on this magical band...
Nice reaction mi lady and keep on rockin' with them!
Greets from Finland.
🤘😎🇫🇮💙🎶
Nice to see it your way. Great reaction😘
AMAZING!! I LOVED THIS KID OF REVIEW! SO TECHNICAL!!! LOVED IT HARD
Thank you! ☺️
wow, just wow. fantastic reaction, thank you
HI Jess. I've subscribed. I love your analysis - so much detail and your descriptive powers are great. You join the Fariy Voicemother as my favourite reactors.
Oh thank you!
The core of life is an unlimited chest of tales!🎸🤘
And here I thought this was one of the simpler songs of my fav band 😅
I'm in love with your style and your personality.. you could probably top Floor on dome technical abilities, but all you do is praise and analyze as a fan. That is so first class!
Good to see ya
Great to see you Tyler!
Great, you put a lot of effort in here! Learned quite a bit. Moonlit, so tasteful but also smart indeed! ❤
Nightwish Army ❤❤❤❤❤ South Africa 😊 Amazing ❤
I must commend you on the very detailed commentary. Also, your video quality is excellent. I have a 4k rig, so I was able to enjoy it in all its radiant glory. 😊🤘
Thank you! I didn’t always record in 4K but am excited to offer that as a feature now. Your feedback is much appreciated 😊
@@jessicasopranonotes I wish more reactors offered it, but of course, it all depends on the rig and bandwidth. As a gamer, I run a very hot rig on gigabit fiber. It's pricey, but worth it. 😄
super nice hoodie !
Like the one part in Poet And the Pendalum.
WOW!! SO AWESOME!!
Only you can break down a nightwish song so perfectly
Floor is my all time favorire female singer ever! My Metal Queen since 2003. Loved this video! Nice reaction!
Very interesting commentary about the song.
Great composion 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘...Like for reaction, 👍👍👍
☺Very happy lad i am Thanks for such a professional breakdown
Love your reaction😂❤ They do have complex Music, Then it's very nice to see you explaining how they do it😊 You should be a teacher😂 Thanks for sharing with us And Greetings from Chicago
Wow, I thought that this song is pretty simple in terms of composition but thanks to you I noticed how complex it is. Great analysis
Glad you like it!
One of my favorite tracks of Nightwish, it has it all the band is all about. Even thought is not one of their most famous albums, this creepy circus vibe album, was majestic, I like it.
Aaaaah my fav. Song thank you 🥸👍👍💖💖
Thank you !
If you want the meaning of this song you need to see the movie. This song is part of the movie and it soundtrack. Warning it is not a kids movie or a happy movie. This song has a very deep meaning.
