  • Mounting the new large D. anosmum. Doing this now will give it the best chance to get well established in this coming growing season. Hopefully, there will be more new canes soon.
Warning : There is some 'blood' in this video, sorry.

12-24-2017 Dendrobium Anosmum is one of Hawaii's favorite orchid. They are mainly grown on trees and hanging baskets. Once the cane blooms a new cane grows and the older cane is cut off. We save the older canes because Keikis (Kay Keys) will develop on the nodes. I would like to experiment and slab some. Yours looks really nice. Thanks for sharing.

Yay! So glad you mounted it! It looks happy now and will no doubt thrive under your care... I'm already looking forward to updates! 🌱

Roger Frampton They will come! Its a lovely, large specimum, even minus the roots, and your growing environment is perfect for it.🌸🌱

I've seen unboxing vids of some good plants which is why I thought I'd give them a try.

Hey Roger, nice big one, great. Your orchid was a recent import from the Philippines.

Despicable sellers. This is a spectacular Dendrobium species. It's too large for my grow areas, but I can admire from afar.

I've seen these with 2 meter long canes when grown exceptionally well. My growing season is quite short in the UK compared with some other parts of the world, so mine probably won't grow any bigger than this.

Don't worry about them getting collected plants. They know their sellers, and without certificates nothing comes into there. This was imported from the Philippines. But I understand your concern, you are never sure with imports.
Still, good mounting job. Although it really looks weird, like long, boney fingers ... stuff nightmares are made off :O

Good to know on the 'imports front'. Oh, and happy dreams.......

:O ... you Brits and your pitchblack humour, you are a menace :D
Again on the subject: I remember a quite heated conversation with the owners of O&M, what was about chopping down Dendrobiums in the wild for making some kind of snakeoil remedy. They were quite pissed by that, and I also know that they actually went on orchid expeditions, discovering new species. They also are roaming around Asia and other places visiting the sellers, as far as I understood it. Sry for the sermon, just want you to be un-worried.

Wonderful, so glad you got an anosmum. In theory, it's my favorite orchid. Grows huge, roots have that great green/white contrast, produces gentle-looking flowers, a multitude of them, fragrant. I'll confirm it's my favorite if I ever get one to bloom. Best of luck to you in growing yours!

Hi Roger, I got one of these over the last weekend and was trying to find your video on the care for this orchid. It’s in bud right now and hope to have blooms in a few weeks. Any tips? Much appreciated, thx.

Once the stems of the buds start to move away from the cane, effectively, any Winter rest it was getting is finishing so you can start slowly introducing some water. Once you see some new growths from the base, introduce some feed too. During the growing season, water well and feed low levels regularly to push the new growths on well. These need good light during the growing season but don't need the high light levels - they are temperature tolerant and will put up with whatever they get, but if your temps are high (26C plus), I would make sure they get good air-flow.
(When we get to the end of the growing season, I'll be doing more videos on taking the resting type Dens. into their rest period.)

Roger's Orchids thx Roger, that was a very quick reply. So right now, they came potted in spagnum moss in a little pot... and the moss is not completely dry(soft but not wet) I shouldn’t water it at all for the next few weeks?

I would not water too much until new growth(s) start. It sounds like it may need repotting/mounting once it starts growing - they like to hang down.

Roger Frampton... I think we can all envision seeing that plant pushing out new canes freely and quite quickly; especially in your growing conditions and under your care. It really is a beauty...

The finger is fine apart from the flappy bit where it was sliced keeps catching on things. Just checked the anosmum (video later today) and it's clean. So no worries.

oh good on both accounts! do you really think your orchid was poached from the wild?
