This haunting arrangement by Jimmy Morehead of this selection from "The Suffrage Songbook" reflects the anguish of suffragist picketers who endured "The Night of Terror" and subsequent horrors of force feeding at the Occoquan Work House in 1917, the news of which helped to result in President Woodrow Wilson's support of women's voting rights.
This song was the featured selection of the March episode of The Living Legacy Series in honor of Women's History Month. Jimmy shared his musical beginnings, his compositional process, and the ways he remained creative and resourceful during the pandemic to continue serving his community through his musical artistry.
Ohhh my goodness,what a song
Amen
What was this for? Women ordination?
It is a historical women's suffrage song!
@@audreyjohnsonmusic It’s actually a hymn that’s been modified for women’s suffrage
