My reaction... Garish modernity which neither grips nor lifts the collective human soul. What drives composers to write material like this, where the instrumental voices seem to be in conflict with one another? Where is the concord, where is the meoldy, where is the thematic unity in a piece like this? In this style of composition, I see the nihilism of the present age... the loss of a sense of transcendence, a loss of the sense of the unity of human experience, the loss of a sense of the beauty and wonder in the creation which surrounds us. Even melody has been sacrificed on the altar of contemporary nihilism. Music of this ilk will be neither played nor remembered in fifty years... thankfully.
