    Thanks for the in depth review! I just retired a Brother Laser printer after 20 years of hard use! It just kept working until it started paper jamming every once in a while. I used the unit for my home office, I am a California full time Realtor, & most of the files can easily be 200, to 300+ pages, plus copies for different parties involved. I totally trust Brother products. I agree with having a printer to only do printing, I have a separate XEROX machine that only does scanning and it works great. That machine was $500. Thanks for your in-depth review.

      You are most welcome Enrique. Thank you for sharing all of that. I am glad to hear when people have had equipment work well for so long. It reaffirms my faith that there is good equipment out there. Sometimes we buy lemons, but sometimes we are fortunate and we buy quality products. On a different note, I have done quite a bit of real estate work too, but from the legal side. Did you see my video about tips for hiring a lawyer? You may find it to be interesting from your perspective as a realtor. 😊🏠💲👍

      I bought this printer because it doesn’t have a scanner. Less to go wrong and much less bulky. If you want the all-in-one with a scanner it’s 30% more expensive, but these printers are well-priced. I use an app to scan on my phone and the results are just as good for most purposes.

    Hey! Great review!
    There are so many variations of the printer as you mentioned at the start. Where I live in Sweden, a lot of them can be bought in store for pretty much the same price. What is difference between then? Higher number = newer? Why are brother producing so many almost alike printers, it’s so confusing ..

    Helpful Video. Trying to decide if I will purchase this printer most likely. Upgrading from -HL-2270DW which is broken (and also tired). I would add that the UI for setup is at least 20 years out of date but setup is a one time deal and most of the configuration will be done on our computers anyway. Still great job on explaining and demonstrating the setup process.

      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Pete. I have my printer at my office so I won't be able to look at it until Monday but I'm looking at the manual and I believe that you can do that. Here is the link: download.brother.com/welcome/doc100810/cv_hll2310d_use_oug_d.pdf. Go to page 209 and look for the word '2-sided'. The manual says that you can 'Turn 2-sided printing off and on and select flip on long edge or short edge.' Just go into the menus as I show in my video and see if you can find the right spot. I think that it should be possible. 😊👍

    is it possible to increase the toner thickness used?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Vincent. That's a good question. I just checked the manual (link below). On page 33 it shows how you can use the software to change the media type (i.e. what you are printing on). It says "Select the type of media you want to use. To achieve the best print results, the machine automatically adjusts its print settings according to the selected media type." I suppose you could select 'Thick Paper' as is shown on page 159 and see if that achieves your desired effect and increases the toner thickness used. Here is a link to the manual: download.brother.com/welcome/doc100810/cv_hll2310d_use_oug_d.pdf. I hope this helps. 👍

    Very helpful. Two comments - why didn't you cover the WPS setup method? And the bit on entering the password went very quickly - how do you switch from upper to lower case?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi John. Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it. I didn't show the WPS setup method because I thought that a standard wi-fi setup would be the most used method. Also, WPS is designed to be user-friendly so I thought that people wouldn't really be having issues with that. Regarding putting in the password, the upper and lower case letters are next to one another so you just keep pressing the button. For example, for a lower case A, press the button once. For the uppercase A, press the button twice. That is my recollection anyway. I'm not in front of my printer right now. It's at my office but it's the weekend so I don't have it handy.

I do have a question. When it comes time to replace the toner for the Brother HL-L2370DW series is it fine to purchase a compatible toner brand through Amazon? • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. That's a good question. Because this unit has a small screen, there are actually menu settings that you can use. Press the up arrow until you see "Print Reports" and then press "OK". Then navigate to "Printer Settings" and press "OK". Then press the big green "GO" button. It prints a three-page report which is basically the same as the one for the older model. I just tested it now and it works well. My Drum Unit is at almost 100% and my toner is down to 25% or so. So far so good. I still love this printer. 😊

    This is a good printer from its specs, but what happens to its purported replacement HL-L2379DW? This newer model has been on the Brother website for months now, but I cannot seem to find it on sale anywhere. It's very strange. What is the difference between the HL-L2379DW and the HL-L2370DW other than the color?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Jason. Great questions. I wondered that too, i.e., where is the HL-L2379DW and what's the difference between the HL-L2379DW and the HL-L2370DW other than the color?
      I opened the webpages for each in new tabs (www.brother-usa.com/products/hll2379dw and www.brother-usa.com/products/hll2370dw) and toggled back and forth to check the differences. Same printing speed. Same connectivity. Same features. Etc.
      However, I do see that the HL-L2379DW is to come with a 4,500 yield toner (the TN760, high-yield toner cartridge). The HL-L2370DW comes only with a starter cartridge that prints 700 pages (3,800 pages less than the TN760). Perhaps in response to the popularity of Epson's EcoTank printers (with the help of advertising with Shaquille O'Neal), Brother wanted to put out a printer that seemed to be new and has a higher yield, right out of the box? That would explain the slight difference and the change in color.
      However, you are right. The HL-L2379DW doesn't appear to be available for purchase anywhere. It's not even on Amazon: amzn.to/3DIVYoJ
      What do you think? It's strange isn't it? 🙃

    Sean,
    I enjoyed your videos.
    I need your help regarding the interior of the back of the printer.
    I had a high capacity toner cartridge which lasted a very long time. By the time I ordered a new cartridge, I'd forgotten how I installed it.
    So, big mistake & tried to install in back.
    Very difficult time before I realized to install the cartridge in the front.
    During my obviously failed attempt to install in the back, I did something wrong & caused things to be out of place.
    I do not know what I did or how to get things back in proper place leaving me unable to print.
    Can you please help me put things back as they should be? My son bought this printer for me & I gave him my earlier version that is not wireless as I print alot & he doesn't have wireless capabilities on his computer.

      Hi Judith. Did you get it working? Are you sure that your wireless network was active? I've never had a problem with my printer not scanning for networks. I'm happy to help if I can.

      I ended up calling my WiFi provider who could only dictate the codes for me to press, because as you know there is no keyboard. She acted as though she was used to doing this sort of thing for customers of this printer. Thankfully, it is now working fine. @@SeanDillman

    It keeps pulling from the manual tray ???? which it says is Tray 1. I don't have that tray open so the "Auto Select" should be pulling papaer from the bottom tray. Also, neither is labeled. Little things like this are annoying. Will definitely change to quiet mode because it is noisy. Only thing I like is the size, the speed and that its a black and white duplex printer. But it isn''t working like a plug and play which in 2023, I think printers should. Thanks for the quiet mode and sleep mode turn-offs. Will watch again when I have more patience on the wireless printing.

      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How did it go Lynn? Did you resolve it? I think the manual tray is the small slot in the middle of the front, and tray 1 (the only tray) is the one on the bottom. You make a fair point. They could have labelled them. I also definitely prefer quiet mode. I agree that modern devices should be easy to install and plug-and-play. What software were you using to print? Word? Adobe Reader or Acrobat?

      @@SeanDillman Thank you so much for replying and inquiring. lol I also appreciate the specific instructions on the deep sleep mode. Sleep and deep sleep should be an option and not the default. To answer your question, I was printing from Word when it wouldn't print. It seemed to like Adobe Reader better. It did print from my phone so I got the wireless working. I will try again soon. It also pulled more than one paper when it did pull from the manual tray. I like things to work easy without a lot of hassle so this may be my last Brother printer. My previous printer was a HP LaserJet 1020 which lasted FOREVER and it worked with every computer I plugged into it.

      I hear you @@slynnsmith4311. I also don't have a lot of time or patience for tech that doesn't work. Things have become so streamlined these days so I have a pretty high expectation that things will just work with little to no hassle. I'm glad to hear that you got it to work from your phone so that you know that now all you need to do is get it to work properly from your computer. One issue down, one to go. I've had a few HPs in my life too and always found them to be quality machines. I'm sorry you're not loving this Brother unit. For what its worth, I'm still really happy with mine. It isn't perfect and I don't expect too much for the price, but I find it to be reliable and provide high enough quality for what I'm printing (routine black and white office documents and memos). Have a great weekend Lynn.🙂

    Can you print pictures

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marjorie. Technically, the answer is yes but I would not recommend printing pictures using the Brother HL-L2370DW. This printer is a monochrome laser printer, which means it can only print in black and white. It does not have the capability to print photos in color.
      While you can print images on this printer, the quality may not be as high as what you would get from a color inkjet or photo printer. Laser printers are designed to produce high-quality text and graphics, but they are not optimized for printing photographs.
      If you do decide to print images on the Brother HL-L2370DW, it's best to use high-quality images with a high resolution. This can help ensure that the images are as sharp and clear as possible.
      However, if you are looking for a printer specifically designed for printing photos, you may want to consider an inkjet or photo printer instead. These types of printers are designed to produce high-quality, color images, and often come with features such as specialized ink cartridges and paper trays to help ensure the best possible print quality.
      Is that helpful Marjorie? 🖨😊

      I totally agree. The reason this printer, and the similar models, is so good is because of how straightforward it is. I use mine all the time, and the old one I show in the video, that I gave to my friend, is still working fine too, and he has had it for many years now (even before I had it for years). This printer is the real deal. 👍

    Attorney here, this printer sucks. Bad software. Lucky to work on command 1/2 the time. Bad software and and feeder or whatever the thing is that sends the paper from the stack to the out-tray.I begged with it this morning (when I had motions to print on a deadline of course). Stay clear. Get an HP, pay more, worth it.

      Hi WM C. Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear that this printer wasn't solid for you. I definitely know the pains of working with a printer that isn't working when court is looming and time is tight. I'm a fan of HP too. I'll have to review an HP printer in the future. 🙂

      In thirty years of working in an office, I've experience those same issues with HP, Xerox, Canon, Lexmark, and Brother. At least Brother hasn't begun to use extortion tactics on their patrons as reported by the Atlantic and presented here by the right to repair advocate Louis Rossman th-cam.com/video/KGszSj0BLeg/w-d-xo.html

      Completely disagree with you. If you got a faulty model, then I cannot say.
      However the printer is ROCK SOLID with ONE EXCEPTION.
      There is a caveat that wasn't covered and it seems that the manual is WRONG.
      802.11n isn't supported or isn't supported well. Decent connections can only be gotten on 802.11b or g. Note that if you force the cipher to be WPA2 only (i.e. AES) you will see an increase in packet loss. I'm guessing the wifi chip is weak in processing power. Transmit and receive is sufficiently strong. I'm not idea what "Wi-Fi Direct" is ... some sort of auto-configure but no one should be using that stuff, it's almost always insecure --> again disclaimer, don't know + didn't use.
