I loved this short film. It's inspired, darkly comical and subverts expectations. I've known the song for years and always felt he was hiding something and a bit of a Norman Bates. It's the line in the song about his sexual frustration "but his mothers know best". Keep making films and don't let the boring and uninspired get you down.

I think some people here are being very mean about your film. I loved the way you took Ray's gently satirical lyrics and amped up the basic idea to the ultimate degree of madness/horror. I like the way you let it unfold slowly, too. Very nice indeed.

The blonde girl was playing the part of the 'well-respected man' who turns out (in their imagination) to be a cannibalistic serial killer, luring young women to his home... I thought it was a valid creative interpretation, dialling up the gentle satire of Ray Davies's original song to another level of madness!
The entire point is that it subverts the song's obvious meaning. Even in its original form, we get the impression that there is something not quite right about the protagonist's perfect facade. The lyrics make clear that he's hiding something and is sexually frustrated- "but his mother know best". In this film, he's hiding that he is a cannibalistic serial killer. I think it's pretty funny for a short film idea. They are also young, give them a break. It's original at least.

They are young filmmakers. It's actually quite impressive as they are pre-film school age and one of the things they teach at film school is to subvert expectations in choices like this. I also disagree about the lyrics. The song is satire. It is about a man desperately trying to conform and be perfect but he is actually sexually frustrated and under his mother's thumb. "And he adores the girl next door, 'Cause he's dying to get at her, But his mother knows the best about The matrimonial stakes." This literally distributes Norman Bates, the protagonist in Psycho. Real-life serial killer Ted Bundy was a law student who worked with the state's Republican party. He was hiding behind conformity. So is he really "oh so healthy in his body and his mind", or does he just want you to think that? I've worked in the arts my entire life and so I think it is important to encourage young people who show an imaginative creative flair. Only a tiny fraction of people are truly creative. Most would just interpret these lyrics literally but where's the creative input in doing that? Not to sound pretentious but the reason people admire Picasso is due to his creative interpretation of reality. The world needs creative minds and they should be encouraged. Still listening on 11/24/2023 and I'm 68 years old. In the 60's when it came out I was in Elementary School and probably was 10 or 11 years old.
53 yrs old love this song. Older brothers and cousins, so I got to listen to all the great music and obviously still do.😊
