    As of today the FZ1000 MK2 is $ 1,200.00 Canadian. Last Christmas i purchased the FZ1000 on sale for $600.00 Canadian, brand new, not refurbed, from a reputable dealer (the camera store, Calgary, Alberta, you may have heard of them, lol). Long story short as a stills only shooter, if the price hits $600.00 again i'm buying at least 1 if not 2 more of the mark 1's. the Mark 2 doesn't add anything worth the 2x price as a strictly stills shooter, and I do love the results from the Mk1, great great camera.

    In camera USB charging is the only way I go with my cameras. I have a dual USB battery pack that fits nicely in my camera bag and some 90° USB cables that allow me to keep the batteries topped off in the camera during the day. I’ve basically negated the need for spare batteries for me as they never get used. The Bluetooth feature to do GPS tethering is pretty important to me which is why I opted for the m2, mine arrives today, I’m kind of out snooping for videos now in the interim. Thanks for posting. Great review.

    Thank for another nice review. It appears Panasonic has not implemented the new color science that they use on modern four thirds systems. To me, that would be a nice addition.

    I'm so glad I found your channel! I'm a very occasional "point and shoot" photographer with the older version of this camera, and I even sent you a message asking how to tell the difference between the old and new. I should have checked your channel first, as this video gives me ample information to determine that I for sure have the first generation. I and will order the PDF from your site and look forward to learining about this camera.

    One failing that they carried forward to the mk2 is the tripod mound is still offset, thus gets in the way of the battery door, if the camera is mounted. This was one of the most complained about issues with the mk1 ... You have to get the FZ2000 to solve this.

    Thanks for the video Graham, from a FZ1000 MKI user. However, I wonder about the pricing, the FZ1000 II costs the same or more than a FZ2000/2500. On a FZ2000 you get slightly larger zoom and ND filters built into the lens. There I found the chain jumping off the gear for Panasonic.
    Someone has a comment on the weird pricing ?

    October 18, 2022 I can buy the Mk I for $410, or the Mk II for double that price+. Your review indicates to me that I'd be better off with the older model, especially since I have a Sony FDR-AX33 camcorder and would rarely (if ever) be using the still camera to record video.
    It seems both of the FZ1000's are lacking a feature I consider really important for a digital still camera, that being GPS tagging.

    I am not sure, maybe my eyes are failing to see better. I have a cell phone from Unihertz, model Tank 3. I have been watching the Lumix Brand to buy one of these or even the lastest model to get better with my shots, however, any of the pictures I have seen here are better than my cell phone captures, of course it is a big surprise for me to find out this, I cant beleive it! So, I will check other brands and see what I can find with top notch quality pictures. Thank you very much for helping me to refuse LUMIX and spare my money! Many greetings from Germany, Alfredo.

      I suspect you will find it difficult to better your smartphone even with full frame. Two reasons, first smartphones are now so good at photography and secondly because the makers use AI algorithms to artificially make the picture better than what comes out of the lens. Camera makers don't really do that so you'd have to use something like Lightroom to apply that to a camera shot yourself. Bridge cameras have 2 big advantages over a smartphone; a viewfinder and flexibility in terms of focal length etc and a multitude of other options. Full frames have less flexibility but marginally better image quality (sometimes depending on the conditions). If you don't need or want these things and you don't want to blow up the image on the side of your house then you may find it difficult to significantly improve on your smartphone no matter how much you spend. Good luck, it will be interesting to see how you get on.

      @@xoio Yeah the FZ1000 is awesome I used it to film the documentary Overpriced in my channel, and my music videos, looks beautiful the sunsets look cinematic and more practical to get diff perspectives zooming in with the FZ1000 when other cameras require a diff lens to be put on (and lose the shots I got that happened so fast), if the new FZ1000 does better in low light that would be even better but the only issue I have with the FZ1000 is the motor sound the camera makes that even picks up with my Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro microphone, it does help enough you don't notice as much after getting a good mic lol

    I have the fz1000 for timelapse but at intervals over 30 seconds the camera shuts down and retracts the lens.
    The problem I am having is that with the lens on anything other than wide angle, the lens does not resume the same position. This results in jittery playback problems in the final work.
    I would like to know if this problem is rectified with the fz1000 II.
    Thanks for the informative videos, you have been quite informative and an also an inspiration with many lumix series cameras I have used over many years.

    • @GrahamHoughton12

      @@GrahamHoughton12 thanks for your response.
      The economy mode in setup is set with sleep in the off position but during shooting timelapse the camera will still immediately power off after the first shot is taken if the interval is set for over 30 seconds.
      If only the lens didn't retract when it turns off in interval mode it wouldn't have to try to find the exact zoom position each time it turns on for a shot and would reduce wear on the lens motor.
      Mostly ok with lower intervals or wide. I use manual focus and tried zoom resume on & off. Any other ideas are most welcome.
      keep up the great work with camera specific educational videos and books, you have taught me quite a lot. Thanks.

  • @mattburrows2615
    @mattburrows2615 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just wondering if they fixed the problem with the lens not resuming the same position with timlape shooting at intervals over 30 sec.
    (anything except full wide angle and the lens would resume a slightly different position upon waking up causing frame to move in out on final playback.)
    Why didn't they fix the lens to save wear on the motor too.
    I asked panasonic for a fix and they said their engineers will have a look at it.
    Love the videos you make on the lumix series, keep up the great work!
    Love the usb charger for timelapse too

    Great video Graham ( as always ). I borrowed an FZ2000 from a friend and used it for a couple of weeks. The video quality is amazing , but have been told the original FZ1000 took better stills. I am looking at buying the new FZ1000 II ( mainly for stills ) , and was wondering if it takes better stills compared to the FZ2000 ? It would be great if someone could answer this question before Sunday 31st March , as there is an offer in the UK for the FZ1000 II that ends on that date. The offer includes :- 5 Year Panasonic Warranty , £50 cash back , Free Power Bank ( worth £95 )

What I don't like on the FZ2000 is that when you put it on, the zoom open to the max and it looks a bit massive in hands. Thanks for a great review Graham. I have had an FZ 1000 for quite a while and truly enjoy using it though I "borrow" my wife's GX-9 for macro work. Like another commenter here, I wonder if Panasonic has done anything about the grinding (of the OIS motors?) that is really quite annoying, particularly when the microphones pick it up during video recording. I'm looking at the FZ2000/2500 as a replacement, but now I'm thinking there might not be much reason not to lob for the FZ1000-2

    I have owned 2 of the old FZ1000 and a FZ2000 and the biggest issue for me has always been the lack of weatherproofing and the limited dynamic range...I find it all too easy to burn out the highlights, especially when shooting video. I know it is related to sensor size but I always expect some improvement with each new model released, but it never seems to happen.

    • @GrahamHoughton12
      @GrahamHoughton12  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dynamic range is always going to suffer as soon as you start to increase pixel density - which reduces pixel size. I would still like to see a limit of 12M on a 1 inch sensor for this reason.

    Great short review of the 2. I am thinking of upgrading my fz1000 (since it's old and acting up. Buttons stopped working. Screen as well. Probably due to the humidity in Vietnam. Apparently, they cannot fix it here). So I have 2 questions about the new fz1000ii. 1) I had problems with the focusing when shooting video and zooming in and out with the fz1000. It would go out and in focus which would render the footage unusable. Is this problem fixed with the mark ii? 2) is it better weather sealed? All my problems with the camera are due to the weather conditions here, which the camera doesn't deal with so well, apparently. I don't want to upgrade and suffer from the same problems again. Thanx.
    I am really thinking of switching to the Sony RX 10 iv. There are some pretty good 2nd hand options out there, even here in VN, but still more expensive, and I really like mi Lumix. I also think of maybe upgrading to a mirrorless APS-C for better image quality, but I cannot seem to give up the zoom capability in the bridge cameras.

I am excited about the FZ1000 II because Panasonic seems to have thoughtfully retained everything I like about the FZ1000 (the lens, first and foremost) and improved everything I wished would be better. As an eyeglass wearer I have trouble with the FZ1000 viewfinder, I am hopeful the new one will solve that, any way for you to comment on that? On your next update you may wish to mention the addition of an f11 stop, which seems to me to be rather important.

    Thank you for your detailed review. I am very interested in the Lumix FZ10002 / Mark ii. I will be grateful if you would tell me:
    1. what type of the shutter is equipped in this camera (well, I do not find the information of shutter type in the user’s manual which I downloaded from web site!)? This is a ‘leaf shutter’ or ‘focal plane shutter’?
    2. Can I use ordinary external TTL flash (the flash is not support high speed sync function) at a shutter speed of 1/4000, since fill-in flash in day time is so important for me?
    I am looking forward to hearing from you very soon. Thank you!

    Should a beginner photographer/vlogger (hybrid content) just buy the "G90/95" or still consider the FZ1000 mark 2?

    Great video! Just came back six months later and watched it again as I am thinking of buying the FZ1000 II. I had an original FZ1000 which I have since loaned to my daughter. I have been using a micro four thirds system but my wife and I are planning several long trips around the world in the next year and as compact as my current gear is I still would need a minimum of three lenses and a few other accessories. With a bridge camera I can get by with one small bag. I also will still have my LX100 for low light. I was about to order the 1000 II when I realized that the FZ2500 is nearly the same price. I can’t think of too many negatives for the 2500 other than the lack of Bluetooth. I do mostly photography but also the occasional video. Any thoughts on how those 2 compare? Thank you.

      Rod Reichardt Hello Rob. Some people found the image quality of the fz2500 is a little soft in comparison to the fz1000. You may want to research this before you make a decision.

    I like to take bird's and wildlife but I'm finding it hard to remember the best settings and am fumbling my way around all the settings!
    Can you advise me a good starting point to default back to when needed?

    Hello Graham,I had no great pleasure with the old FZ1000, because the constant operating noise destroyed any sound of the internal microphones.Is this much better with the new version? I would be very grateful for a test and comparison of the internal sound.Furthermore, I would be interested in a comparison of the stabilization in 4k video.Many Thanks!THOMAS

      The OIS noise is still present and is easily heard from the internal mics. External mic is the only solution to this problem

    Great comparison. What's your opinion on whether or not the mark II is worth the extra £300?

    • @krollpeter
      @krollpeter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If a slightly better LCD / Viewfinder, sightly better colours and sharpness, and a few upgraded features are worth BP 300? I don't think so. In Germany the price difference is more like 100 Euro. For 100 bucks more I would take the Mark 2, but not for 300 more.

    Hi Graham, I saw another video where you attached a 2X screw on "teleconverter" on a FZ1000. Does the FZ1000 II also take a similar screw on teleconverter? What's your experience with such screw on teleconverters? How is the image quality? There must be a loss of light and hence the need to use bigger apertures.

    • @GrahamHoughton12
      @GrahamHoughton12  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure which video this is as teleconvertors aren't a good idea on these cameras due to the weight they impose on the lens. Are you sure it wasn't just a #2 close up lens. By the way the lenses are the same in both models

    Thnk u for evrything. I hv a special request for u. When fz 300 has 600mm wht is the meanin of keeping this cam still in400mm even with the mark 2. I surely think that any suggestion of ur kind of people will specially noticed by the panasonic company. So my suggestion is pls suggest the company to fix a 1500mm zoom lence to this 1" sensor cam when they are going to upgrade this as mark 3 or as any modle number. Bcos fz82 does not hv a 1" sensor, but it has 1500mm zoom.

    I’ve just had this camera delivered this week as a back up/everyday alternative to my G9. While I’m still getting to grips with improving my composition I don’t want the hassle of changing lenses. I use single area focus and I’m struggling to figure out how to switch off touch focus but retain touch for menu options and stop the focus area from moving if I accidentally touch the screen. Any advice?
