As is often the case, people interpret things in the context of their beliefs, in an either/or, only two possible alternatives kind of way. When instead there is a range of understanding, and the underlying truth should be the goal. Many Flat Earth believers have mutually conflicting claims, where one idea negates another. Meanwhile others accept the information produced over many generations of refinement that demonstrates the Earth is a globe, and the technologies we take for granted constantly utilize that knowledge.
Dude, I've been watching flat earth content for comedy the last 10 years, and I remember coming across this short film years ago thinking "oh god did flat earthers make a short film." I read the comments and saw it was filled with flat earthers but I was left confused when the film had nothing to do with flat earth lol.
I'm glad you said the comment under your film was for possible employers - because flat earthers will ignore it. In fact they have 'debunked' NASA images as CGI whilst ignoring the fact that NASA has labeled them 'artist impression'
That's so funny that you basically walked backwards and blindfolded into an online debate without realizing it. Your art film had no specific intention to challenge either side of this debate and was made purely without any agenda in regards to science. You made it just to make something cool and I respect that. And it is hilarious to see how these wacky flat earthers can interpret a piece of art to have a hidden agenda in it. It shows you how conspiratorial their minds can get where they turn some innocent into an agenda purely from their own slanted thinking.
Right?! Thank you for watching. It really is an interesting case study. You hit the nail on the head. Before you know it I'm going to make another film and then be accused of thinking lizards run the Earth! 😅
yeah firmament is a specific thing in flat earth circles. In hebrew it menas solid structure I think and in greek it means heavens/sky. Flerfs are the kings of cherry picking.
Yeah, it's been quite the topic over the last, maybe 10ish years. I'm not sure I would agree that they appropriated it. The Bible is something that can be interpreted any number of different ways. Some took it to mean that a dome exists. That's the hard part about religion and poetic writing. You can interpret a set of texts multiple ways without any real way to judge which, if any, might be correct.
Very understandable. Maybe "appropriate" was the wrong word to use. "Interpret" would have been a better word. From my research, the idea of a "firmament" predates the Hebrew Bible, as both Egyptian and Greek cosmology references a dome over the Earth. It's quite an interesting topic, ancient cosmology.
@@nikoniko9 we are sending a flat earther to Antarctica this December to see if there's a 24-hour sun, which would falsify flat earth and prove the globe.
Did you notice in the definition that you showed for the firmament that it says "especially when regarded aa a tangible thing"? The word refers to a vault or dome over a flat Earth and has no real place in the heliocentric cosmology. The word comes from the Latin "firmamentum" meaning "support" or "strengthening", which was used in the Latin Vulgate Bible to translate the Hebrew word "raqia" (meaning "expanse" or "extended surface"). It was traditionally viewed as a fixed, solid structure - hence the use of "firma" (firm) in the Latin term. I can understand that you didn't realize this when you chose the name for your film, but I thought this information might help point out the interest you received from people that consider our world to be established on a level plane!
Pardon me, but as a Christian you really ought to know how wildly different stuff - like ancient books - can be interpreted ;) Regarding the future of this channel, I think it's quite easy: Use your films channel for your main interest - films - and this channel for everything else. And if there is no time for "everything else" so be it, just leave a note "I'm going for cigarettes, be back soon". (For younger viewers: That's what husband used to say before disappearing for the next twelf years or so.)
"Firmament" is in the beginning of the first chapter of the first book of the Bible in the most popular translation (King James), and you never heard it before? 🤨
He means its not a word you hear regularly. It's not a word you typically hear in everyday conversation or topical discussions. You could go months or years without hearing a word like that so when you do finally hear it, it has a certain charm to it. Like hearing someone say Ravine or Stellar or other unique words that don't come up very often.
@@nikoniko9 Ok ok......I like it.....almost. Thats almost funny! Thank you for explaining, still better than most of my jokes but needs some polishing up I think. As somebody who abhors any sort of brainwashing or mind control or mass societal manipulation I realise whilst it is still common to believe in the spinning ball, it is not and has never been normal and should never be considered so. So if I ever use the word baller, it is affectionately and never with malice or condescension as almost every flerf ive spoken to was a baller for most of their lives. I understand where you are coming from. It is a very shocking verse, especially when viewed through a modern lens. Although there are many other theologians and religious scholars who could answer your question more directly. My response would be that you have to remember that the Bible is one unified story, even though it has many books and many authors. Taking things out of context of any story can lead to many misinterpretations or "not getting the full story". This isn't a religious debate channel, but I would highly recommend maybe looking up what the New Testament says about the old. Hopefully this helps you understand my viewpoints. I appreciate the comment, though!
I understand why that may be. But all views are respected here. It's never good to discredit something or an opinion due to an opposing belief. Many art that I consume is filled with messages I disagree with, but I wouldn't say it ruins it for me. Rather I listen, and respect what they believe. But I do stand my ground with my belief. We need to be harmonious with peoples opposing beliefs. Sorry, soapbox over haha. Regardless I'm glad you enjoyed the video and took the time to comment!
